Ladonna turns to scan the room of people. She was seeing quite a few familiar faces, but there were a couple she didn't know. "The best people that would be able to help us would be the Count and his family," Ladonna admits. "But the Count isn't fond of me. His children seem to be pretty indifferent towards me though, aside from Lord Eowan. He might like you though, since you are battle trained...." she says, and then pauses in thought. "Actually, I think I will introduce you to Lord Eowan later," she says thoughtfully. "Um, My lady, Helen Escott is nice enough, and she could be a huge help towards us," she explains. "There are also the higher members of the church. How do you feel around members of the church?" she asks. She knew that a lot of people probably felt judged around people of the church, so she wanted to see if Relken was one of them or not.

"Count Solan is my liege lord," Relken says. "He was the one who knighted me. I could try and put in a good word for you...although, he may think me biased in doing so."
"If she is your lady, then I would think you would be better suited to earn her favor," Relken points out. "But if you think she would listen to a lowly knight such as me, I would be happy to try."
"Even before my knighting, I always strove to follow the Path of Gonto," Relken says. "I am not by any means the most educated man. My schooling was fairly minimal as a soldier. I can barely even read or write. But I've always done as the priests bid. And well, my liege lord is a paladin, on top of that. I would like to think then, that Gonto favors me. Considering all that has happened to me recently--my knighting and my engagement to you--it sure seems that way, at least."

"I'd hate to see some human snatch it up," Lillian remarks. She can tell Finbul is hurting. "Is there anything I can do to help?"

Finbul shakes his head. "I don't know," he admits. "By all rights, the ranch should go to my family; they've worked on it for generations, after all. But my people aren't allowed to legally own land in this country. Most likely, the baron will give it to another knight or just take it over himself."

Lillian sighs. "I wish I could do something. All my ideas involve a trip back to Buho, and that might be a bit tricky."

"And if we could return to Buho, what would you do?" Finbul asks, curious.

"Perhaps visit Katya's mother, and appeal to how much the ranch means to you, and find a proxy inheritor of some sort..." she shakes her head. "A slightly outlandish plan, maybe."

"Putting a good word in for me with the Count would be amazing," Ladonna admits. "But since he is your liege lord, why did he give you permission to marry me?" she asks curiously. "As for Helen, I think it is just important for her to meet the man that I'm supposed to marry, otherwise most of the work will be done by me. Introducing you to high members of the church would probably benefit us both. Before I do any of that though, I should probably find my father."

Ladonna"I suppose your father made a very persuasive case," Relken answers. "And speaking of which, is he well? I have had no contact with him in a few months now. He usually kept in contact with me very regularly with updates on the wedding." Lillian"Yeah," Finbul agrees. "Ironically, she would normally attend these balls, if her health wasn't failing." It's at this point, Finbul stumbles forward as someone of about his height bumps into him from behind. A young halfling dressed as a maid looses her footing and collides into him. Finbul manages to avoid falling, but the woman drops her serving tray. Luckily, the tray was empty at the time. But it clatters to the ground with a loud noise. "Oh, oh, please pardon me, my lord!" the halfling exclaims. Lillian recognizes her as the same maid she met a year ago. "I'm no lord," Finbul says, straightening out his shirt. "Don't worry about it." He scoops up the tray and hands it back to her.

"He is mad at me, I'm sure," Ladonna says with a sigh. "The wedding has to be delayed due to the house still being haunted, and he didn't like that."

"Oh, that is unfortunate news," Relken says, frowning. "Is there something I can do to help? I'd be happy to offer my own manor for the service but, well, it hasn't actually been finished yet. I've been staying here in Hart in the meantime, the count was nice enough to put me up in a nice inn in town."

"Unless you can find me some time to clean out my home, there isn't really much that can be done," Ladonna says. "But that is probably why you haven't seen my father. He is embarrassed."

"I see. He must feel he has failed you. I hope he's not too hard on himself," Relken says. "Well, I should leave you to your tasks, and begin on mine. But...perhaps we could...if you don't mind, that is...share a dance later on?" he asks, hopefully.

Ladonna still isn't sure how to handle this man. "...Of course," she says with a smile before she walks off to find her father. ~It might not be so bad being married to him,~ she thinks to herself.

Ladonna searches the crowd for her father, drawing a number of looks and whispers as she passes. She finds him loitering alone over by the bar, a drink in hand. He's dressed sharply, and has his hair combed and his beard trimmed. But he looks rather dour, barely able to keep his head up, and seems to practically radiate an aura of melancholy. He barely looks at her when she approaches, just downs his drink and says, "You look nice."
