"That's what my bodyguards are for," Amodeo answers. "And my understanding is that you and Miss Lillian are accomplished warriors, as well, yes?" Panola chuckles. "Uh, Lillian, I've seen real tieflings before. They're pretty easy to spot in a crowd, if you get my meaning. You don't even have any horns or a tail. I'm pretty sure you're not one of them."

Lillian keeps walking. She also groans and shakes her head. "I am able to disguise my appearance once a day--Tieflings have natural magic in them."

"I'm a mage, so I don't exactly fight on the front lines," Ladonna admits. "Either way, before you arrived, we were discussing what to do and we thought it might be a good idea to go to Buho to see if they have heard any rumors of what has been going on around the area."

"So far, they have been largely uncooperative," Amodeo says. "But perhaps your connections can loosen their tongues a bit." Panola takes a moment to digest all of that. Finally, she says, "Alright, let's say I believe you. Why is he kidnapping elven tieflings?"

Lillian sighs. "You--or perhaps it was Unakite--asked what an Elf child had to do with ultimate demonic power. Though the "never-feel-loved" explanation was the one he gave me, I always felt that my demonic heritage had something to do with it," she answers, feeling rather frustrated. "I couldn't say why Elves specifically, but perhaps it's just a matter of location."

"Who have you talked to within the town?" Ladonna asks curiously.

"I spoke to the town's reeve, the town's council, and tried to get an audience with the baron, but he never agreed to see me," Amodeo says. "I could report this to someone, try and stop him from doing any further harm," Panola offers. "But I'd need more information on this man, where to find him, who he is, and any clues as to what he is doing."

"Getting an audience with the Baron will be next to impossible," Ladonna admits. "What did the council and the Reeve say to you?" she asks.

Lillian sighs deeply. "No...no, I don't know any of those things. I'd have to spend some time investigating."

"Only that they would 'look into the matter,' and nothing more," Amodeo answers. "I do not know if they are incompetent or just trying to protect one of their own, but I got nowhere." "Alright, I'll do some investigating of my own," Panola says. "In the meantime, anything you can tell me about him would be helpful. I don't even know his name."

Lillian smiles. "Yes...thank you. His name was Jethnar. And while I don't know exactly where he lived, it was not far off from the forest where I was found--or...taken, I suppose."
She breathes deeply. Revealing her heritage had been...less exciting, somehow? Panola had taken it so well, she felt as if she could shout it in the marketplace for all the impact it would have. Oh, well. Perhaps the dread and anxiety over it would give way to a practical caution, now.

"Hmm, I doubt they are protecting one of their own," Ladonna says. "But I do know everyone on the council and the reeve, so once we arrive I'll do my best to get as much information as I can," she admits. "What information can you give me on the merchant?" she asks.

"His name was Don Metizio," Amodeo answers. "He and his three guards hail from my land, Pharabutto. He was a true Calabrian--passionate, friendly and an excellent businessman. He was married, with three small children. It was his widow who asked me to personally look into the matter." "Jethnar, near the Ruaran border," Panola repeats. "It's not much, but it's something. I still have connections to the homeland. I'll send word about this." She glances to Lillian. "Thank you for trusting me with this. But...you do realize what will happen to you, if the Tardish ever learn what you really are, right?"

Lillian nods. "Public disgrace, possible exile or execution. It's been hanging over my head all my life. Don't worry, I've made it 40 years." She neglects to mention that 15 years of it were spent sitting in a corner, refusing to talk to anybody.

"What type of goods did he sell?" Ladonna asks.
