Kalana curses under her breath as the other ship manages to move away. "If you can get me in boarding range, then I might be able to handle them," she says. "Continue firing."

"Shoot the catapult at the Cog! Keep firing the ballista at the caravel, and also arrows... Keep trying evasion maneuvers! Make sure every position is manned!" Senllip orders Cassie and his first mate.
======================================================================= (OOC: In the previous round the cog was 330 yards away which is in the catapult range, no? If so the command to shoot refers to that, not to the current range of 380 yards.)

The Bluemoon The Bluemoon manages to regain the distance it lost on the caravel, but things go south from there. The Bluemoon's crew fire their crossbows, but miss. Their ballista does only minor hull damage. But the caravel's counter attack is devastating. Their arrows take out two sailors and three marines, leaving the Bluemoon with a skeleton crew unless Kalana reassigns at least one marine to serve as a sailor. Fortunately, the caravel's ballista misses, as that would have likely reduced her crewmen even moreso.
The Blue Diamond The crew works overtime to try and maneuver the ship to a safer position. They put more distance between themselves and the cog, but the caravel still closes despite their best efforts. They fire at the caravel and manage to deal some damage to its hull. The caravel fires back with both bows and ballista, but the former misses and the latter does no significant damage to the Blue Diamond.
(OOC: The maximum range of a medium catapult is 320 yards, so it was still 10 yards out of range.)
The Salty Dwarf As per Brax's orders, the crew of the Salty Dwarf continue to try and flee from the cog. However, it manages a burst of speed and gets another 60 yards closer, but they are still well out of firing range.

Round 16!
Tiaru Tiaru will sink in 2 rounds.
Bluemoon vs. Caravel 01 Bluemoon and Caravel 01 are 100 yards apart. Bluemoon wishes to close with Caravel 01, so make a maneuverability check (1d6+2): 6+2= 8; Caravel 01 also makes a maneuverability check (1d6+1): 6+1 = 7; Bluemoon wins and the distance closes 10 yards, so the ships are now 90 yards apart. Bluemoon also gains a +1 bonus to its next maneuverability check and +2 to missile/artillery rolls this round. YgHzMU|J1d6 1d6
Bluemoon's cannons are out of range, light crossbows are at medium range, and the medium ballista is at short range. Six marines fire their light crossbows [THAC0 20 - AC 8 = 12 to hit; -2 medium range] (1d20-2): 12-2 = 10, miss. Kalana does not fire. 1d20
Crew fires aft medium ballista (short range). The ballista [THAC0 14 - AC 10 = 4 to hit] (1d20): 11, hit for (2d10): 14, hull strike for (1d3): 1 hull damage. 1d202d101d3
Caravel 01's cannons out of range, their long bows are at long range, their light ballista is at medium range, and their light catapult is too close to fire. The 13 marines fire their bows [THAC0 20 - 8 = 12; -2 medium range] (1d20-2): 17-2 = 15 for 8 hits (2 sailors and 3 marines go down, and Kalana takes (1d10): 8 damage). Bluemoon now has a skeleton crew, which decreases speed to 2/3 normal, a -2 to seaworthiness and a -2 to maneuverability. 1d201d101d101d101d101d101d101d101d10 1d10
Caravel 01's light ballista fires [THAC0 14 - AC 10 = 4 to hit; -2 medium] (1d20-2): 3-2 = 1, miss. 1d20
Blue Diamond vs. Cog 01 and Caravel 02 Blue Diamond is 120 yards away from Caravel 02 and 380 yards away from Cog 01. Blue Diamond wishes to move away from the Caravel, so makes a maneuverability check (1d6): 4; Caravel 02 also makes a maneuverability check (1d6+1): 5+1 = 6, Blue Diamond loses, so Caravel 02 closes by 20 yards (meaning they are now 100 yards away) and Blue Diamond suffers a -1 penalty to all missile/artillery rolls this round. Cog 01 makes a maneuverability check (1d6): 6, wins so the distance between them closes 20 yards, putting them at 360 yards apart. 1d6 1d6 1d6
Blue Diamond's cannons are out of range, its medium ballista is at short range, and its medium catapult now too close to use. It fires its medium ballista at medium range at Caravel 02 [THAC0 14 - AC 10 = 4 to hit; -1 losing maneuverability check] (1d20-1): 11-1 = 10, hit for (2d10): 13 for a hull strike, dealing (1d3): 3 hull damage. 1d202d101d3
Caravel 02's canons are out of range, its light ballista is at medium range, their light catapult is too close to use, and their long bows are at medium range. Their 11 marines fire long bows [THAC0 20 - AC 8 = 12 to hit; -2 medium range] (1d20-2): 7-2 = 5, miss. 1d20
Caravel 02's light ballista fires [THAC0 12 - AC 10 = 2 to hit; -2 medium range] (1d20-2): 8-2 = 6, for (2d10): 9 rigging hit for 0 point of crippling damage. 1d202d10
Cog 01 is outside of firing range.
Salty Dwarf vs. Cog 02 Salty Dwarf is 500 yards away from Cog 02 and wishes to move away from it, so rolls a maneuverability check (1d6): 2; Cog 02 also rolls a maneuverability check (1d6): 6; Salty Dwarf loses by more than double, so closes the distance 60 yards, decreasing it to 440 yards. 1d6 1d6
Both ships are out of range to fire on each other.
Seleya and Lleiset vs. Sohar Seleya and Sohar are 330 yards apart. Seleya wishes to close with Sohar, so makes a maneuverability check (1d6+2): 3+2 = 5; Sohar also makes a maneuverability check (1d6+2): 2+2 = 4; Seleya wins and closes the distance by 10 yards, decreasing the distance between them to 320 yards. Selaya gains a +1 to its next maneuverability check and +1 to missile/artillery rolls. 1d6 1d6
Seleya's cannons are out of range, archers are out of range and ballista are out of range, but they are in catapult range. They fire their light catapult at the Sohar [THAC0 14 - AC 0 = 14 to hit; +1 winning maneuverability check] (1d20+1): 15+1 = 16, hit for (2d10+1): 7+1 = 8, rigging hit for (1d2): 2 crippling damage. 1d202d101d2
Lleiset and Sohar are 100 yards apart. Lleiset wishes to close with Sohar, so makes a maneuverability check (1d6+1): 3+1 = 4; Sohar also makes a maneuverability check (1d6+2): 6+2 = 8; Lleiset loses so opens the distance by 20 yards, so they are now 120 yards apart. 1d6 1d6
Lleiset's long bows are at medium range, its medium ballista are at medium range, its medium catapult is too close to use and its cannons are out of range. Their 40 marines fire their long bows [THAC0 20 - AC 8 = 12 to hit; -2 medium range] (4d20-2): 12 (5 hits), 11 (miss), 16 (6 hits) and 16 (6 hits). They take out 2 officers (including the captain), 3 marines and 5 sailors. 1d201d201d201d20 1d101d101d101d101d101d101d101d101d101d101d101d101d101d101d101d101d10
Lleiset fires its medium ballista [THAC0 14 - AC 10 = 4 to hit; -2 medium range] (1d20-2): 4-2 = 2, miss. 1d20
The Sohar's long bows are at medium range, its medium ballista are at medium range and its cannons are out of range. Their 7 marines fire their long bows at the Lleiset [THAC0 20 - AC 8 = 12 to hit; -2 medium range] (1d20-2): 4-2 = 2, miss. 1d20

"Aim the catapult at the cog threatening us. Once they are in range shoot them off the sea waters!" Senllip orders a bit irritated by the maneuverability. "Good work boys! They closed the distance a bit, but they take hits and are tired! Hang on, work together and soon we will have the upper hand and get out of their distance and rain fire on them!" Senllip encourages his men hoping for better luck as the fights continue.
================================================================== (OOC: What are the ranges of the crossbows? Couldn't they shoot the caravel already? Also, what are the ranges of Seleya and Lleiset from caravel 01/02 and cog01/02? Can they shoot any of the four with their catapults (which are too close for their direct enemies)? )

The Bluemoon One of the marines drops their crossbow and joins the sailors, but this means that Kalana is down to only four marines, two of which are manning the ballista. The two crossbowmen fire, but miss. The ballista fires, and does some minor rigging damage on the enemy ship.
"Captain, we're nearing cannonball range!" calls out Bayla. "And we're in spell range now!"
The Blue Diamond Despite their attempts to evade the second caravel, it continues to get closer, moving into cannon range. "Watch out, they're trying to board us!" warns Cassie. "They outnumber us four to one, if they manage to board us, we're in big trouble!"
The Blue Diamond fires its cannon but it misses; their ballista bolt hits, however, dealing some minor hull damage. The caravel fires back, but their arrows and cannonball both miss, and their ballista does hit but is too weak to do any damage to the ship. The crew readies to fire the catapult at the cog if it gets too close, but it remains at a safe distance.
(OOC: Light Crossbows have a short range of 60 yards, medium range of 120 yards and long range of 180 yards, but there aren't any marines left on the ship to fire any; your crew has suffered too many causalities. Unless you want to reassign some people off of the artillery to shoot crossbows instead. Currently, no other ships are in catapult range.)
The Salty Dwarf "Could be," Thom answers. "But then again, this is just a cargo ship and isn't terribly fast or maneuverable, so it might be we're just outmatched." The cog manages to gain a little more ground, but still remains outside of firing range, so the ship remains safe for now.

"Signal to Kalana and Brax that we could do with some help here if they are feeling a little bored." he tells Cassie.

The Bluemoon The remaining crew do their best to reach the caravel, getting within 20 yards of it. One more solid push should put them in boarding range. The Bluemoon fires off their crossbows, ballista, and cannon, and Bayla fires off some magic missiles. Together, the caravel takes a hell of a beating, losing a great deal of speed and maneuverability but remaining afloat. Unfortunately, the caravel returns fire. And while their ballista and bows don't do any damage, the Bluemoon takes a partial hit from their cannon, dealing massive damage to their hull. The Bluemoon is just barely holding together now, and likely won't withstand another hit.
The Blue Diamond The crew manning the catapult take up arms, but the caravel is on them too fast and the enemy begins gathering up ropes with grappling hooks on them, preparing to throw them over and grapple and then board the ship. Cassie reports, "The other ships are in pretty deep, but I'll see if we can send word to the Salty Dwarf for help!"
The Salty Dwarf "Aye, capt'n, changing course," says a crewman.
"Nephew, we're getting a signal from the Blue Diamond. Looks like they're being boarded and are asking for help," says Thom.

Round 18!
Tiaru Tiaru sinks.
Bluemoon vs. Caravel 01 Bluemoon and Caravel 01 are 80 yards apart. Bluemoon wishes to close with Caravel 01, so make a maneuverability check (1d6+3): 4+3= 7; Caravel 01 also makes a maneuverability check (1d6+1): 6+1 = 7; Bluemoon ties and the distance closes (1d10x10): 60 yards, so the ships are now 20 yards apart. 1ySPU1jW1d6 1d6 1d10
Bluemoon's cannons are at short range, light crossbows are at short range, and the medium ballista is at short range. Two marines fire their light crossbows [THAC0 20 - AC 8 = 12 to hit] (1d20): 8, miss. Kalana does not fire. 1d20
Crew fires medium ballista (short range). The ballista [THAC0 14 - AC 10 = 4 to hit] (1d20): 4, hit for (2d10): 16, hull strike for (1d3): 3 hull damage and 6 crewmen are killed. 1d202d101d3
Crew fires cannon (short range). The cannon [THAC0 10 - AC 5 = 5 to hit] (1d20): 16, hit for (2d10): 8, rigging hit for (6d6): 25 crippling damage. Caravel 01 suffers a -4 to maneuverability and speed drops 2/3. 1d202d106d6

Blue Diamond vs. Cog 01 and Caravel 02 Blue Diamond is 40 yards away from Caravel 02 and 350 yards away from Cog 01. Blue Diamond wishes to move away from the Caravel, so makes a maneuverability check (1d6): 5; Caravel 02 also makes a maneuverability check (1d6+1): 4+1 = 5, Blue Diamond ties, so Caravel 02 closes by (1d10x10): 100 yards (meaning they are now 0 yards away). Cog 01 makes a maneuverability check (1d6): 1, they lose so the distance between them opens 40 yards, putting them at 390 yards apart. 1d6 1d6 1d10 1d6
Caravel 02 attempts to board Blue Diamond!
(OOC: Boarding a ship requires two actions. In the first round, the enemy ship will attempt to throw grapples onto the Blue Diamond, holding it in place and reducing its speed to 0. In the second round, they attempt to board and a fight starts. You can attempt to repel the grapples in the first round, by sending your marines in. The Blue Diamond only has 3 marines right now, though, while the enemy ship has 20. You can reassign another 5 crewmen although this will put you at a skeleton crew, and you and Cassie can join in, too. If the grapple succeeds, your crew will need to fight them off or risk your ship being taken.)
Cog 01 is outside of firing range.
Salty Dwarf vs. Cog 02 Salty Dwarf is 420 yards away from Cog 02 and wishes to move away from it, so rolls a maneuverability check (1d6): 5; Cog 02 also rolls a maneuverability check (1d6): 4; Salty Dwarf loses so closes the distance 10 yards, decreasing it to 410 yards. 1d6 1d6 Both ships are out of range to fire on each other.

Seleya wishes to close with Sohar, so makes a maneuverability check (1d6+2): 4+2 = 6; Sohar also makes a maneuverability check (1d6+2): 1+2 = 3; Seleya wins by double and opens the distance by 30 yards, increasing the distance between them to 310 yards and gaining a +1 to its next maneuverability check and +2 to its combat rolls. 1d6 1d6
Seleya is out of range for cannons, arrows and ballista, but in normal range for catapult. They fire their catapult [THAC0 14 - AC 0 = 14 to hit] (1d20+1): 19+1 = 20, hit for (2d10+1): 10, rigging hit for (1d2): 1 crippling damage. 1d202d101d2
Lleiset and Sohar are 110 yards apart. Lleiset wishes to close with Sohar, so makes a maneuverability check (1d6+1): 4+1 = 5; Sohar also makes a maneuverability check (1d6+2): 6+2 = 8; Lleiset loses so opens the distance by 30 yards, so they are now 140 yards apart. Lleiset gets -1 to all combat rolls. 1d6 1d6
Lleiset's long bows are at medium range, its medium ballista are at medium range, its medium catapult is too close to use and its cannons are out of range. Kalana knew that this wasn't good, but they were already here. "We can do this. One more push!" she orders.

"Everyone, cut off the grapples ropes. Shoot anyone that tries to board us." Senllip shouts and fire himself at the men on the caravel.
=============================================================================== (OOC: Since we are going to be boarded, we don't need a skeleton crew. All are going to fight. Why this round no one shoot at the caravel? I thought we had men at the cannons + ballista + crossbows. And at least few with crossbows. How many people are left anyway?)

The Bluemoon With one final push, the two ships bump into each other, giving the Bluemoon a chance to attempt to grapple it so they can begin boarding. However, the enemy ship has considerably more crewmen left than the Bluemoon, so doing so won't be easy. "Admiral, the sohar is surrendering! The Lleiset and Seleya are regrouping!"
The Blue Diamond Senllip calls for the entire crew to assist with the repelling, meaning the ship is no longer able to move, should they actually manage to avoid the grapples. It becomes a moot point, though, as the enemy crew manages to grapple the Blue Diamond and five of their marines manage to board the ship, armed with cutlasses. A fight quickly breaks out on the deck of the Blue Diamond.
(OOC: You can go ahead and roll for attack for Senllip and give orders to Cassie if you want her to do anything. I'll roll for the crewmen.)
The Salty Dwarf The Salty Dwarf changes course and starts sailing for the Blue Diamond. From his vantage point, Brax can see that one of the caravels has grappled with the Blue Diamond and they are currently being boarded. The Salty Dwarf enters firing range for the caravel, but the second cog starts to catch up and might be entering firing range soon, as well.

Round 19!
Bluemoon vs. Caravel 01 Bluemoon and Caravel 01 are 60 yards apart. Bluemoon wishes to close with Caravel 01, so make a maneuverability check (1d6+3): 4+3= 7; Caravel 01 also makes a maneuverability check (1d6): 4; Bluemoon wins and the distance closes 20 yards, so the ships are now 0 yards apart. VD6nw2_|1d6 1d6
(OOC: Boarding a ship requires two actions. In the first round, the Bluemoon will attempt to throw grapples onto the caravel, holding it in place and reducing its speed to 0. In the second round, you can attempt to board and a fight starts. They can attempt to repel the grapples in the first round, by sending their marines in. The Bluemoon only has 2 marines right now, though, while the enemy ship has 20. You can reassign another 5 crewmen although this will put you at a skeleton crew, and Kalana, Auli'i and Bayla can join in, too.)
Blue Diamond vs. Cog 01 and Caravel 02 Blue Diamond is 0 yards away from Caravel 02 and 390 yards away from Cog 01. Cog 01 moves 90 feet toward the Blue Diamond, reducing distance between them to 300 yards.
Blue Diamond has a boarding factor of 15. Caravel 02 has a boarding factor of 20. (20-15 = 5, meaning the attackers gain a +1 bonus to their roll).
Boarding action results (2d10+1): 12+1 = 13; the Blue Diamond is grappled and 1/4 of the enemy boarding party boards the ship (5 marines). 2d10
Cog 01 is outside of firing range.
Salty Dwarf vs. Cog 02 Salty Dwarf is 410 yards away from Cog 02 and wishes to move away from it, so rolls a maneuverability check (1d6): 2; Cog 02 also rolls a maneuverability check (1d6): 2; Salty Dwarf ties so closes the distance (1d10x10): 60 yards, decreasing it to 350 yards. 1d6 1d61d10
Both ships are out of range to fire on each other.
The Salty Dwarf is 180 yards away from the Blue Diamond, and moves 60 feet toward it, so it is now 120 yards away.
Seleya and Lleiset vs. Sohar Seleya and Sohar are 310 yards apart. Seleya wishes to close with Sohar, so makes a maneuverability check (1d6+3): 4+3 = 7; Sohar also makes a maneuverability check (1d6+2): 6+2 = 8; Seleya loses and opens the distance by 10 yards, increasing the distance between them to 320 yards and suffering a -1 to its combat rolls. 1d6 1d6
Seleya is out of range for cannons, arrows and ballista, but in normal range for catapult. They fire their catapult [THAC0 14 - AC 0 = 14 to hit] (1d20-1): 2-1 = 1, miss. 1d20
Lleiset and Sohar are 140 yards apart. Lleiset wishes to close with Sohar, so makes a maneuverability check (1d6+1): 5+1 = 6; Sohar also makes a maneuverability check (1d6+2): 2+2 = 4; Lleiset wins so closes the distance by 20 yards, so they are now 120 yards apart. Lleiset gets +1 to all combat rolls. 1d6 1d6
Lleiset's long bows are at medium range, its medium ballista are at medium range, its medium catapult is too close to use and its cannons are out of range. Their 40 marines fire their long bows [THAC0 20 - AC 8 = 12 to hit; -2 medium range, +1 losing maneuverability check] (4d20-1): 10 (miss), 2 (miss), 15 (6 hits) and 7 (miss). They take out 2 sailors. 1d201d201d201d20 1d101d101d101d101d101d10
Lleiset fires its medium ballista [THAC0 14 - AC 10 = 4 to hit; -2 medium range, +1 losing maneuverability check] (1d20-1): 14-1 = 13, hit for (2d10): 10, rigging hit for (1d3): 2 crippling damage. 1d202d101d3
The Sohar has only 2 crewmen left and no officers, so puts up the white flag of surrender. 1d6·1d6·2d10·1d6·1d6·1d10·1d6·1d6·1d6·1d6·1d6·1d20·1d20·1d20·1d20·1d10·1d10·1d10·1d10·1d10·1d10·1d20·2d10·1d3
