A silly question- is it possible to use necromancy cantrip to creat a tiny/small undead pseudo familiar? youtube.com/shorts/oVZaYE5LY9U?si=hXc-Bu8h95hVWOqXAlso, it first time for me playing a wizard in ad&d. (Or maybe at all) Creating scrolls is "unlocked" at certain level? Also if I remember, researching new spells is quite a vague process.

A silly question- is it possible to use necromancy cantrip to creat a tiny/small undead pseudo familiar? The description for Necromantic cantrips reads, "Tiny animals such as rodents or insects may be killed by a necromantic cantrip, or animated as 1/2 HD undead creatures (no more than 2 HD total per cantrip)." So yes, she could reanimate a dead mouse or crow or something like that as a pet. It would not be a true familiar, though; she'd need the Find Familiar spell for that. Creating scrolls is "unlocked" at certain level? This is correct. Wizards gain the ability to scribe scrolls at 9th level and can craft other magical items at 11th level. For the record, though, I've never had a game go that high before, however. Also if I remember, researching new spells is quite a vague process. Yeah, it's kept pretty vague. You generally need lots of money and a sufficient lab. (This is true for magical item creation, as well). But theoretically, researching spells can be done at any level. Although it probably goes without saying, you cannot research a spell higher level than you can cast.

About pseudo-familiar-undead familiar- can it be a small piece of larger creature? Like.. a hand?
---
I see. I was mostly hopeful about scrolls. I see.
--- So researching spells require an actual lab. Which would require tens of thousands of steel?

About pseudo-familiar-undead familiar- can it be a small piece of larger creature? Like.. a hand? Like a Crawling Claw? So researching spells require an actual lab. Which would require tens of thousands of steel? The basic investment for a lab is between 1,000-6,000 steel pieces, while operational costs is 200-1,200 steel a week. You also need to have a proper library for research, and how much money you invest in that determines how high a spell level you can research. First level is 2,000, second level is 4,000, third level is 8,000. The price goes up exponentially. However, assuming Parra takes and survives her Test, she has access to the labs and libraries in the Tower of High Sorcery. If she's okay with using them, she can skip the basic investment and library cost entirely, and only need to worry about the weekly operational costs. However, the downside is anything she researches is done in full view of the Conclave.

Well, honestly I was rereading the descptriptions of the cantrips, and the necromancy ones gave me a mental image of "thing" from the Addams Family.
But basicly, yeah.
Also, maybe swarm of undead wasps... it sound nasty. (Probably a project for days)
----
Wow. Those are big numbers. But I think until she gain enough money, she would have to deal with the watchful eye of the Conclave

Creating a crawling claw probably requires more than a simple cantrip. But I would allow her to animate a hand, sure. It won't be nearly as strong, though.
I'm not sure how a swarm would work, mechanically speaking. I'd have to do some research on that.

Creating a Crawling Claw is a complicated ritual, but I can tell you it requires access to the Animate Dead spell, so it's beyond Parra's ability at the moment.
As for the autopsy, she has no proficiency in either Healing or Diagnostics, so I don't think she really knows much about anatomy (especially anatomy of a race she's never encountered before). She can take notes and record her findings, but I don't know how much she'd learn from the experience. What is it exactly she's trying to find out?

Basicly how they are becoming invisible and maybe how to harness this power.
I didnt really have expected it to succeed, I just assumed that as a mage she would try

All she could gleam is that their ability is biological, and is less invisibility than it is the ability to change the color of their skin to blend into the background--like that of a chameleon. Thus, it wouldn't be possible to replicate it, as far as she could tell.

This was still a good day for evil science.

And probably to make a leather out of their skin wont preserve their ability. No, it seems they need to be alive to activate the ability, as far as she can tell.

Aw, that Stinking Cloud turned out to be totally useless. XD
Well, poison saves are usually the easiest ones to make.
