Definitely sea-based. I imagine that he would have grown up in a seaside town, and that he always wondered what an untouched sealing looked like. And, yes, he is a human.

If he were successful in his mission, though, would that mean he would return to the Guild and work for them again? I'd thought about that, and I mean, ultimately it'd be at the DM's discretion (just as it would be up to you to determine whether he ever finds the renegade captain at all). But there's different ways I can imagine that playing out. One would be just like you said, where his stint with the Blue Lightning ends and he returns to his duties with the Guild. It would probably make sense to retire him at that point, unless you contrived for his next appointed task to conveniently happen to be wherever the Tiaru's headed. Another might be: after being presented with the whole story, maybe the Guild assigns (nameless character) as their permanent liaison with Blue Lightning, solidifying an alliance with them in the hopes of furthering their common interests. Or maybe after tracking down that captain and busting open such a sinister conspiracy, (nameless character) decides to change career paths, resigns from the Guild, and officially joins Blue Lightning. Those are just the low-hanging fruit, metaphorically speaking. If the situation arises, and if you wanted to, we could get really out-there with it (i.e. what if the conspiracy went all the way to the top, and now that he's onto them, the top-ranking guild members have put a price on his head?). But I figure, while he'll be on the hunt for clues continuously, you could sprinkle them around sparsely enough that it could be an arbitrarily-long amount of time before we'd have to deal with all that.

I see. Standard revenge plot then? Not really revenge more an eye opening to the crime on the open seas and wanting to prevent it from happening to others. More a push into action.

So, what stuff (NWPs, class features, Spells, etc) do I get from being a multiclassed Theif (Buccaneer) 5/Druid 6?

Interesting concept, Druid/Thief. I don't see the combination list in the official rulebooks, but it might work.
Given the back story, sounds like more of a dual class setup, just saying.

I wanted that, but my stats just weren’t good enough.

Keep in mind, though, I did say you can use 4d6 or point buy. With the point buy system, you could probably arrange the stats to allow for dual-classing. (Part of why I suggested not actually rolling yet.)

Oh. Sorry. It’s just that I’m used to 5e, where the point buy system (as used in the PBH) is extremely stingy.
So, no dual-classing for me because I’m an idiot.

So, on the off chance that I would be able to re-get my stats, how does point buy work in 2E? In 5E, the maximum stat spread you can get is 15, 15, 15, 8, 8, 8.

I discuss how it works in this post. Also, we have a bit of a development. One of my players isn't sure she's sticking around. If she quits, we'll have three openings, and I won't have to choose who gets in; I can just accept all three of you. So I'm going to hold off on picking until I hear back from her.

I see.
...does that mean I get permission to use point buy? I want to make sure.

Yes, you do.
And on further reflection, I've decided to just let all three of you in. Seven players is a big group, but I've run bigger ones.
Theron, Greywolf and Gravity have all been granted access to the Octhania forum. You can start working on your characters in the OOC thread.
