Garnet starts suddenly at being addressed and stammers a bit as she tries to arrange her thoughts. "Oh, uh, um, er, that is...let's see...h-he was in a room. Like a b-bedroom? It was nice. Well, nicer than a-anything we've seen here s-so far. There was a bed, and some b-bookshelves and a rug." She pauses to try and remember. "Maybe a desk, too?" While the others wait behind in the light, Theron and Jherek head about 20 feet down the first tunnel branch. It seems to extend pretty far, eventually turning completely northward. It looks like this was one a mining tunnel, which might explain the haphazard design of the place. Theron takes a minute to search for traps, but finds nothing. =========== Theron spends (1d10): 1 round searching for traps in the tunnel [F/RT 30%] (1d100): 2, pass. Ryan shakes Jherek's hand before replying. "You are welcome, part of the deal in an adventure."
He follows for a bit before restating, "I still think we should go lower before that contraption goes back up. I get the feeling that we must go lower."

Finding nothing, Theron proceeds to scout another 50 feet down the northeastern tunnel, continuing to check for traps. Then he heads back to the group with Jherek.

Jherek moves forward with his friend, doing his best to find any mechanical horrors waiting to skewer his feet or drop him to his doom! He keeps also opens his half Elven ears as wide as they'll go to avoid a being painfully pierced with a dirty goblin spear.

That done he looks to his betrothed. He seems flabbergasted at her ability to move about. Maybe they were all chosen for something after all. "How...uh...how does...you look well. It's good to see you strong enough to wield steel." Katya is not nearly as impressed with herself as Jherek seems to be. What is necessary must be possible. "I will be where I am needed."

Theron and Jherek head another 50 feet deeper up the northern branch, and spend some time searching for traps again. They find nothing. It looks like the tunnel continues to extend beyond this point, too. Meanwhile, the others stand in the light of Ryan's enchanted stone and wait. "A premonition...from Gonto?" asks Ingot. "Or something...else?" Finbul says something to Katya in his own language that the others don't understand. "Back at the festival...did you really mean what you said? That you want to change things?" Garnet suddenly turns to the wall of the tunnel and vomits onto it without provocation. She then wipes her mouth with her sleeve and mutters a barely audible apology. =========== Theron searches the tunnel for traps for (1d10): 9 rounds [F/RT 30%] (1d100): 87, fail. He finds no traps. Katya regards Finbul with some measure of caution, but she does respond. She keeps her voice quiet, less worried about being overheard (it's not like anyone else spoke the language in any case) than she was about not hearing potential danger. "Yes." She is entirely certain of that.
"Even if it meant stepping down as Queen of Tardiff." She was calling back to his words to Ladonna on the hill. She hopes Finbul remembered them, or she would sound foolish indeed.
"... Why ask now?"

"The Hooded One could very well be on the last floor of this mine, but we should check out things here just in case," Ladonna says to Ryan. "And, uh, shouldn't those two be back by now?" she asks.

Theron makes conversation with Jherek as the two walk back in the direction of the others.
Picking up the thread of the conversation where they left off, Theron says, "Politics. The humans seem to have an inborn knack for it. You've heard of the Eonian Empire, right? That period of history they look back on as the high water mark of civilization? My mom, she used to love to tell me stories about what it was like back then."
"Anyways, way back before that, the elves basically owned the humans, treated them as nothing more than beasts of burden. But there came a day when the elves were weakened, after many years of fighting prolonged wars against the goblins. What did the crafty humans do then? They rallied the gnomes and the halflings, with all this high-minded talked about how we all deserved to be free to make our own place on this world and forge our own destinies, and together the three races threw off the shackles of the elves and dwarves. After that, of course, the humans didn't waste any time instituting their own pecking order -- with themselves at the top, the elves and dwarves somewhere in the middle, and us small folk back down at the bottom. Just like we see in Buho today."
Theron pauses a moment, catching his breath. As he and Jherek draw nearer to their companions, Theron lowers his voice, as though he doesn't want what he's saying to be overheard. "As overbearing and obnoxious as he is about it, Finbul's right about that part. I just wish he could figure out how to talk about it without making me desperately want to disagree with him."
Theron calls out to the others as soon as the brilliant light surrounding them comes into view, apparently too impatient to delay his report. "Hey guys -- this tunnel looks like it goes on for quite a ways! We scouted it out for...I dunno...a hundred paces, maybe? Anyway, there's no sign of danger, or anything else interesting, really, that we could see...but it looks like it keeps going way further. I didn't get the sense that this area's the sort of place where you'd lay out rugs and furniture, but, hey -- who knows where it might lead if we keep exploring?"

Jherek whispers back to his friend on the short journey back. "I guess...they do seem like a rather savvy lot. I mean, I appreciate being..." Jherek quotes the air before him as they walk. "Mixed blood as much as the next guy...my human ancestors had something going on to pull the affections of fair elf maidens...must be our dashingly fine figures and modest personalities, eh Mouse?" He quiets as they near the others, certain that conversations about the merits and flaws of humanity would spiral out of control. "Yeah, nothing but dirt and empty air for a bit up there. Maybe we are being too careful?" He shrugs his shoulders and waits for the others to move firward, taking a guard like position while looking down the corridor he and Theron had scouted. He looks over the group again. Trying to suss out the moods of his more quiet companions. His eyes settle on Lillian. She was as silent as ever. "You've been quiet Lil, you good?"

"I just get the feeling that we must go deeper. And if we walk too far away from the contraption, we may not have the option." Ryan adds.

"Why not now?" asks Finbul. "We're just standing around waiting at the moment." But then Theron and Jherek return and report, and he falls silent. "So then...should we continue down...this branch? Or try the other...branch? Or return to...the lift?" asks Ingot.

"If that branch continues on forever, then the other one might too," Ladonna muses. "I'll agree with Ryan's assessment for the moment."

"This place can be a bit unnerving, I'm not a fan of of having a sky, it feels so cramped, eh?" He tries to make a bit of small talk...maybe it will help her?
"We can Scout deeper as you all come up behind, or we can shift to the other branch? Maybe it will hold more than stale goblin farts and dust?" He seems entirely too serious about stale farts.
