[OOC: Would an Information Gathering check work here?] Possibly. Where is she asking around at? Back in the castle? Or is she heading into the town?

Let’s start with the town. I can return to the castle if I come up empty-handed.

Okay, let's pull up the proficiency.
Okay, so Lillian isn't in any thieves' guild, so we can ignore that stuff.
I'd argue Lillian has no 'territory' as she is a shut-in who doesn't like to mingle with people, in town or in the castle. Despite this, her Charisma Reaction bonus is +4. And I assume Lillian has no problem spending gold, as she has plenty of it.
So final modifier will be +1 (+4 for her CHA, -3 for it being specific information), so we'll treat the target number as 12 (or lower). So go ahead and roll 1d20 for the check, and also roll 1d10 to see how much gold she spends on trying to find out.

Has it not been explained why Haywise can't go back to the Equalists? Or did I just miss it?

It hasn't been explicitly spelled out, but one can put the pieces together.

Let me rephrase that: am I supposed to know why? Because I don't know, and I'm having a lot of trouble figuring it out.

Now that you know that Amara and the Midnight Bandit are the same person, I thought that would be clear.
1) The Midnight Bandit was in charge of an Equalist cell that decided to kidnap Lady Joy and ransom her. They accidentally kidnapped Lady Helen instead, and all of them except Amara were caught and executed.
2) Amara grouped up with a second cell which hid out on Ladonna's land. They wound up taking Ladonna hostage, but that got most of them killed by Orcs. So as a consequence, she has managed to get two different Equalist cells wiped out now.
One could then logically conclude that the Equalists would decide she's more trouble than she's worth and kick her out.

Ah, I see. That makes sense. Sorry, my inductive reasoning isn't up to snuff!

I'm sorry. I'm just trying to be clear, is all.

All this time, I thought Liala looked more similar to Ladonna. I didn't realize she had dark hair! Or that she was from Dragon Age

Well, it has been around six years since I first posted her picture.
And yeah, I have this large database of pictures I have collected to use for NPCs from videogames, fanart, etc. Whenever I make an NPC, I choose one that fits, or at least the closest match I can find to their description.

Today is the sixth anniversary of Lost Souls Gontoria. And as such, as per tradition, I'll be awarding all players a 6,000 XP bonus at the end of the current chapter. This will catapult Ladonna way past the 40,000 XP mark (as well as guarantee she hits level 6), and will put Lillian around 5-6k away from that mark herself. Which means we're much closer now to finishing the second arc. I'm not really sure how close, in terms of time...it's feasible we could get there by the end of this year, but not guaranteed by any means. But it does mean we can at least start maneuvering toward that finale, if nothing else.
However, this brings up another point I want to discuss--the end of the game itself. Originally, I had planned this game to have four arcs--one in Buho, one in Hart, and the last two in Deteris, the capitol. When I started this game six years ago, I had no idea just how long it would take to finish in a pbp format--it was my first game on this site, and a fairly ambitious one. I'm guessing at this rate, it may be another 6-7 years before we finish, and I don't think I have that in me anymore. To be honest, I've been struggling with some major burnout with this game for awhile now, but it was only when I realized we were hitting our sixth year that it dawned on me why. I've never run a single game for that long before. Even in a pbp format, it's really difficult to maintain a game for that length of time. For the past couple of years, I had been considering condensing arcs 3 and 4 together, making it the final arc, but now I'm thinking...it might be better to wrap things up with the second arc's end.
I feel like, in hindsight, I made a lot of mistakes with this game. I made it way too long for a pbp format, I made it way too niche, way too arc-driven. At the time, I didn't really know what I was doing. I was porting my gaming style directly from real time to pbp and not fully considering the implications of that.
Now originally, the plan was once this game ended, I'd start a new Gontoria campaign, perhaps in another nation like Swadia or Ruara. But I'm now aware that this will lead to the same problems down the road. So instead I'm going to shift it into the Module Matinee formula. Vote on where the next game takes place (Gontoria, Octhania, Renosia, Rabbah, Crizzara), recruit some new people, run a single adventure (around three chapters or so), then have a vote on whether we continue with that party in that land, or roll up a new party and hop into a different land.
However, most of the lands haven't been fully fleshed out yet, so I thought I'd go ahead and bring up the vote now, so whatever you two choose I can start work on beforehand and hopefully have it all ready by the time it's needed. Of course, there are only two of you (assuming you both want to continue on, anyway), which means there's no majority. Either you're deadlocked or you've a full consensus. But that's fine; there's plenty of time for you two to reach an agreement, so I'm not overly worried about that.
The new party will be around the same XP as the current party (so around 40,000), and if your current character survives and you can come up with a good reason to explain it, you might even have the option of transferring them to the new group, if you find you really want to keep their story going.
As for the settings, each one is basically designed to give a completely different gaming experience. To go over them briefly:
Gontoria - This is the standard pseudo-medieval European setting, with knights in shining armor, wizards with pointy hats, etc., etc. It has a focus on roleplay, politics, court intrigue and such. It's a very civilized land, with cities and kingdoms and nobles and commoners, and all that jazz. Basically, this is the most traditional setting, and probably the most familiar.
Octhania - This is the 'high seas adventure' setting, with more of an Age of Exploration flavor. Ships, firearms, sea monsters, pirates, and so forth. It's very romantic, swashbuckling and has a heavy emphasis on exploration, managing a ship (or fleet) and charting your own course through the various diverse islands.
Renosia - This is the 'dark fantasy' setting. It's gritty and nihilistic and grim. Think the Witcher or Dragon Age; a setting where ultimately, the Darkness is going to consume everything in the end. People can't be trusted; everyone is out for themselves. The players are either one of the few good ones, doing their best to make a difference or they're just as bad as everyone else and are just trying to survive.
Rabbah - This is the Eastern setting, both Middle and Far. The central area is mostly desert, and is essentially 'Arabian Nights' flavored, with flying carpets, genies, pyramids, ancient curses, mummies and so forth. The coastal regions around the edge, though, is more Asian in flavor; think Samurais, Monks, Ninja and such.
Crizzara - This is the 'points of light' setting. Crizzara has no nations, borders or even cities. People live in small nomadic tribes, trying to eke out a living in the frozen wastes. Life is harsh and often short. There's heavy emphasis on survival, like acquiring food and supplies (can't just head into a general store and buy these things; you want arrows, you have to craft them yourself or loot them off an archer's body; you want food, better learn to hunt/trap/fish/gather, etc.) and climate hazards (freezing cold, snowstorms, etc.).
So what do you two think?
