With plenty of provisions and no further reason to stay in town, Bayla leads the others until either the end of the tracks or nightfall, whichever comes sooner.

With no other place to go, Melvin takes the middle position. After a few hours of travel, you reach a point where the tracks lead into a forest. Before you can venture forward, you sense...something. As if someone-or something-is watching you.

"Hey!" Bayla hollars, the pinnacle of directness. "Who goes there!?"

Daos, his staff at the ready, strains his eyes and ears, trying to determine who or what is watching them, and where they are watching from.

Melvin brandishes a shortsword and yells, "Show yourself!" as intimidatingly as he can.
"Well, so much for a surprise attack," says a high-pitched, scratchy voice. Two goblins jump out of the woods, one drawing a scimitar, and the other nocking his bow.

Daos' reflexes work like lighting, and he summons a cold beam that blasts the bow-wielding goblin unconscious as soon as he jumps out. Melvin jumps at the sword user, but he parries the blow and slashes at Bayla. She dodged out of the way just in time, and proceeds to charge at him. However, the goblin sidesteps the attack.

With one goblin down, Daos turns his attention to the one remaining. "As I said before, you cannot win. Throw down your weapon and surrender." If the goblin complies, Daos will stand down. Otherwise, he fires another ray of frost at the sword wielding goblin.

Whether he surrenders or not Bayla takes a swing at the second goblin.
If he surrenders, however, it's with the flat of her blade (nonlethal damage) instead of the sharp bit.

The goblin carefully considers Daos's demand. "Fine," he eventually says, dropping his weapon. "Just don't hurt-" Bayla interrupts him by knocking him unconscious with her axe. Melvin briefly raises an eyebrow at her, but soon returns to the subject at hand.
"Does anyone have any rope that we can tie them up with?"

"Bah, no call for that" Bayla guffaws and returns her axe to its sling. "Just prop the little buggers up next to a tree or something. They weren't dumb enough to harass them that left those tracks, they won't be dumb enough to follow us. 'Specially if we take their weapons." She bends down to relieve them of their gear.

"I have no rope," Daos says, lowering his staff. "But I do wish to question them. They might have seen something, like whose tracks we are following and how many they number."

"... That's a good idea" Bayla admits, begrudgingly. She drops her own backpack to the floor and fishes out her rope, which she offers to Daos.
