" What kind of dangerous things?" "A number of fey dwell in the woods," Barnabas answers. "They are just as likely to help you as they are to harm you. A band of pixies tried to run off with all of my supplies on my way up here. On the other hand, when a giant badger chased me up a tree, a trio of centaurs rode to my rescue and scared the beast away. Probably the most dangerous thing I encountered was a band of draconians. I stayed low and kept quiet, and they passed me by without ever noticing me. Not sure what they were doing in the wood. There are also rumors of a dragon that lives in the forest, but I never saw any evidence to that being true."

Arthogate asks "Yes what are these dangers you speak of?" "Most of what you speak of are normally goodly creatures. Except for the draconians, granted there are some exceptions. Are you sure the centaurs and pixies were dangerous? As for badgers even giant ones usually are not a threat if you leave them alone and don't disturb their territory."

Ugh... land... Well, nothing for it I guess. he mutters, downing the remaining half-mug of weak wine with a suitable grimace. We may as well get started...

"The fey are quite...unpredictable, as I said," Barnabas explains. "To the pixies, they probably thought they were just playing a funny joke on me, not understanding that losing my supplies might lead to my death. Fortunately, I was able to retrieve most of my stuff after they got bored and flew off. As for the badger, well, perhaps I was in its territory. Or maybe it was just hungry. Who can say, but I wasn't about to stick around and find out." The party heads down to the docks to retrieve Ferd, drop off some things, and let Harbyn and the other crewmember know what was up and to guard the ship in the party's absence. They then follow Barnabas to the southern edge of town and cross into the dense woodland there. It's a fairly hot summer day, and the air is thick and humid. But fortunately, the canopy provides enough shade to help keep everyone relatively cool. The trail Barnabas points out is barely visible under all of the foliage, but clear enough to walk on without too much difficulty. The place teems with life--not just trees and other plants, but it's alive with animals, too--birds chirping above, small rabbits dart through the shrubberies, and now and again the party spots evidence of larger things--deer droppings, wolf tracks, a tuft of bear fur in a prickly berry patch, and so forth. Due to her connection to Chislev, Kaelestia can feel something more about this place. A sort of druidic magic to it, and it seems to grow stronger the deeper they go. For Sha'alzek, it's the opposite. The deeper they go, the less he can feel the sea. After awhile, he can no longer smell the salt air at all. The forest may be beautiful, but it's also terribly...dry. =========== (OOC: Anyone want to suggest a marching order?) KaelestiaHp: 8/8 - AC: 5 Kaelestia inhales deeply the air of the woods, it's impregnated with the smell of soil, bark, and everything else she sorely missed during their travels across the sea. But there was something else, she could feel it clearly, a tingling sensation in her nose. " There is an aura of magic to this woods..." - she says, more to herself than to the her companions. She closes her eyes to focus on it. The words of the old man resonated in her head. - They are just as likely to help you as they are to harm you.Wasn't that a fitting description for all things in nature? It was the same for the energy the woods were emanating, so beautiful, voluptuous, and magnificent. But also, menacing and terrifying. It was almost like the forest was welcoming her, and at the same time it was giving her a warning. " Be respectful of this place. And keep your guard up." OOC It works for me, if Horizon has any preference I'll leave the decision of where to stay to her, I'm fine either way.

Arthogate speaks up "I feel rather at one in the wilderness, I do not mind leading if you all would like me to." the dwarf takes a deep breath enjoying the outdoors, and showing it rather well, with a smile, and looking around as if to say I am home. He examines the wolf tracks and which direction the are going in, and notes to avoid crossing them. The bear fur in the berry patch he figures it was here to feed and tries to determine how long roughly that might have been by examining the signs, same with how recently the wolf passed through. "Respect you don't have to tell me twice, I was raised in the wilds. I don't mess with the animals or other creatures in their natural place."

"Yes, respect is a good way of putting it," Barnabas agrees. "Even so, there are some things in these woods that it may be best to avoid, if at all possible. Even with respect, some things are too dangerous regardless."

OOC: When did I become leader of this group? 😅😅
IC: Sumina motions to the dwarf to take the lead. "Granker, go with him," she says as she steps behind him. "Kaelestia and Parra take the back, and Sha'al is with me. Barnabas, stay behind me."

The party travels for a couple of hours, swatting at small bugs buzzing around them and at stray branches that get in their way. Barnabas chats casually the entire time, talking about Nixx and the people there, tales of the beautiful witch, and otherwise fairly uninteresting local gossip and history of the hamlet. When the sun is at its zenith, a sheaf arrow suddenly flies out from the west and strikes a tree just to the east of Granker, narrowly missing the top of his head. It flies right between his horns, thunking into the tree and then vibrating to and fro for a few seconds. Looking to the west where it came from, they can see a small (closer to the size of a warpony than a horse) centaur woman, already nocking a second arrow into her composite bow. She is about 300 feet away. "Forbear thither!" she says in Common. "Evil minotaurs, what business hast thou 'i these woods? Speak apace, as mine second arrow shall not miss!" ============= It is now High Watch (12 PM).

KaelestiaHp: 8/8 - AC: 5 " Do not fret about our companions, they're not here to cause harm to your forest. We received a call of help from the people of Nixx and we're here to free them from a giant that is causing them harm."

Sumina turns her head to look at the arrow that thunked into the tree, then turns back to look at the centaur woman. She decides not to be a smart ass about her aim, as she knew that shot was a warning shot. "As my companion here has said, we are on a mission to help the people of Nixx." While she was on the verge of drawing her sword to fight the woman, she didn't see the need to spill blood, providing that the centaur got out of their way.

Sha'al rubs his skin, gods the forest was dry... how can things grow with so little water... looking around he spots Dead Leaves and brush. probably lack of water... why would any sane person spend their time so far from the sea if they didn't have to? He casts a sidelong glance at the dwarf. It very well might have been the first time he had ever seen him smile... never. but everybody knew dwarves were crazy anyway, living underground. this one actually seems to enjoy the surface... which was even weirder.
He pays only half a mind to Barnabas as the man rattles on, and smirks at Sumina when she starts calling out orders. The suggestions made sense so he didn't challenge them, though he thought of doing so just so she didn't get too self-important. He does take opportunity now and again to cast quick glances at her when he doesn't think she is looking; more to see how she is reacting to the forest than anything else... but not solely that.
When the arrow sticks into the tree above his party member Sha'al Hefts hus Javelin and Shield; twirling the former idly as he spots centaur. Great... Horse-people... humanoids with Hooves must be a lot more popular Inland than he had originally thought. you know this one, old man? Maybe you'd better tell her who you are and why we're here...

The centaur lowers her bow slightly, clearly confused. "Soft, thou art saying that elves and minotaur art working together? Methought thou were a prisoner! Sorry about the arrow, I guess."
At Sha'al's prompting, Barnabas squints toward the woman, having trouble seeing her at this distance. "Blasted pixies, if only they had not broken my spectacles. Wait, Miss Daphne, was it? Do you remember me?" he asks the wendle, waving politely.
Shielding her own eyes from the sun, the centaur answers, "Oh, ay, I remember thee. Thy the corky man that was treed by the big brock. Mine brothers had fun chasing it off," she adds with a laugh.
