Daos nods. "Yes, a man and a woman. The man has a garish, ridiculous hairstyle."

Draft nods. "Yeah, I saw the two of 'em. Yesterday morning, no less. The man came in, ordered a drink, then whined about the city, my ale, the fact I had ale instead of wine, and all the 'filthy' peasants. The women came in and told him off. He asked why they were in Deppsburg, she said she had friends here. He was gonna say something, but she pointed to me, and he shut up. Seem like runaway nobles to me. What did they do, anyway?" he asks, taking a seat at one of the tables.

"That certainly sounds like them," Daos says. "They attempted to assassinate the king." While this wasn't strictly true--their true target was Serpentine, if they had succeeded, the king would have died...along with everyone else in the city, and eventually the world. But Daos wanted to impress the urgency in finding them without raising too many questions. "As you might imagine, he's quite determined to capture them, and they sent us in to try and ferret them out. Were you to assist us in doing so, I am certain his majesty would be most grateful." He looks around. "You could get this place cleaned up and operational easily, I'd wager."

Qurrak nod, just give a silent support of muscle presence- he is akward, but not as before. He then jump. "Oh! Do you know a woman who called Valerie?' Then he flinched. "Sorry. I just remembered I had a task'

Draft looks shocked at the prospect. "The king? How would they benefit from that? You don't suppose they're in kahoots with the heir, do you?" (Meine pretends to cough) "...well, I suppose it's not my place to pry." His eyes light up at the mention of a grateful reward. "That's all you had to say, friend. The boys and I will help you in any way we can."
To Qurrak, he shakes his head. "No, I'm afraid not. What sort of task do you have?"

"That's great," Daos says. "Any ideas on how to track them down?"

"What sorts of 'friends' would this woman have?" Draft asks. "My minds pointing to the Dragons or Hydras, but I don't know if she's the sort to have criminal connections."

"Well..," Daos begins, "I am not certain if she has ties to either of the local groups, but I do know she works for the Night's Breath."

"Not a name I'm familiar with, but it sure sounds like a gang," he muses, as the black-haired woman gives up on cleaning and joins him at the table.
"Night's Breath? That's not far off from the Night Hydras," she says. Draft sighs.
"Eddy, please introduce yourself," he says.
"Pardon me--my name is Edwina Teach, or Eddy, if you like living," she says, with the airs of a noblewoman.
"I'm Meine," Meine says, with the airs of a rough mercenary. "So, what's this about the Hydras?"
Eddy "tchs" and elaborates, "We've learned that the Night Hydras came to power much more recently than their rivals, the Red Dragons. Perhaps they had the assistance of the Breath, and named themselves in their honor? They would certainly owe quite a favor to this noblewoman."
"But that favor might not outweigh fear of the King," Draft points out. "There's honor among thieves, but not much goodwill. If you can confirm that the King's sent his army--"
"I don't think they have to, boss," says a gangly ex-bandit (they vaguely remember his name as being Ragdoll). He points out the window, where Blackpool's battalion marches through the town, incited gawks and whispers. Draft nods.
"Well, there it is. Just spread the word, and the Hydras will kick the two out on their faces. From there, they'll have to find somewhere else to hide. Maybe one of the more...obscure inns."
"Is our establishment not one of the more obscure inns?" Eddy asks. Draft guffaws.
"They better think so! That'll make things nice and easy."

"I cannot say for certain whether the Night's Breath and Night Hydras are connected, but I've heard rumors that the Night Hydras try to go out of their way to avoid civilian deaths, which makes them quite different from Night's Breath. My understanding is that the Night's Breath is an ancient organization, dating back centuries--spies and killers, their loyalty ensured with powerful spells that control both their members' memories and wills. As for the Red Dragons, are they related to the Scarlet Dragons?" Daos asks.
He glances out the window to the soldiers when they are pointed out. "Hmm, guess they weren't willing to wait that long. Well, that should help ferret them out. My main concern is that they may try to flee town. Hopefully, the army is quick to shut down the docks. Aside from ship, there's no other way out of here, right?"

Draft does a double-take at Daos' description of the Night's Breath. "Wow...that's, uh...intense. Still, the theory holds water--rival gang leaders aren't exactly innocents."
Answering his other questions, Eddy says "The Red Dragons is merely another name for the Scarlet ones. And barring secret exits, the gates and the port are the only way out of the city."

Unfortunately, none of the ex-bandits have seen Valerie around town.
"The first step is to have the Duke announce that the army's been sent to ferret out the nobles," Draft says. "That'll pressure whoever's helping them to push them out into the streets. Then, we can start the hunt."

"That should be easy enough," Daos says. "We should also put out the word that this place is safe, hopefully tempting the pair to return here looking for a new place to hide."

Draft nods. "Clever. Anything else you need, before you report back to the Duke? A drink on the house, perhaps?"
