"Let's capture the messenger and question him where is she."

"No, we just said we weren't doing that," the Duke tells Qurrak.
"He's got a point," Meine says. "Capturing the messenger would be a pretty clear cause-and-effect that would point straight back to you. But who cares if one of their lesser criminals got captured--perhaps one with loose lips?" She suggests, smiling.

"It could be pretty risky," Daos says. "They may decide to harm the duke's daughter if they know we're behind it. And there's no guarantee he would tell us anything once we had him in custody."

"Yeah, but if he's low enough on the ladder--" Meine explains, but Anastasia cuts her off.
"Then he will know nothing about where my daughter is kept."
"This is far too risky," Nora grunts. "Any sort of action against them will result in Julia's horrible, bloody--"
"Don't say such things, mother!" the Duke snaps.

"Your grace," Daos says, looking to the duke, "with your many contacts with the Night Hydras, have you ever gleamed anything from them that might hint at where they would keep a high profile prisoner? Any sort of stronghold or secret base?"

The Duke scratches his head, embarrassed. "I...let's see," he says. "I heard quite a bit about hidden coves, but with the docks locked down, they wouldn't be able to reach there. I understand they usually keep prisoners or loot in warehouses, or in secret chambers in members' houses--or the houses of 'protected' individuals--as a placeholder. Yes...yes, Julia should be in one of them."

"Now we just need to narrow that down further," Daos says. "I have to imagine they would want a very secure place for someone as important as the duke's daughter. A place well-fortified and easy to guard. If we can figure that out, we have a good chance of finding a way to break her out."

"This is merely a temporary place for her to...be kept," the Duke says, cringing. "Before she is moved to the more heavily protected cove. Which won't happen, thanks to the lockdown. But she's hardly at a fortress, is what I'm trying to say."
"If it's not somewhere well-fortified, it'll have to be easy to guard," Meine says. "Maybe we could try to find the zones of greatest Night Hydra activity, and see where they overlap? Where the greatest number of crooks will be faffing about?"

Daos nods. "It's definitely something to keep an eye out for while we round up the rogue nobles. Speaking of which, we should probably come up with a plan to deal with them when we find them. I assume they won't give up without a fight...and may even choose death instead like Count Cryfold did."

"What do you propose?" Meine asks. "Like, go for the Countess first?"

"Well, I assume we want to take them alive. But if they can and are willing to kill themselves by simply speaking their allegiance to the Night's Breath, we might need to immobilize and silence them first," Daos explains.

Meine nods. "How do we do that? I know you have your magic, but what do Qurrak and I do? ...tackle them?"

"Honestly, I'm not really sure," Daos admits. "Probably our best bet is to get the jump on them, so they don't have time to react."

"Do we have a strategy for that? We can hardly just hope we get lucky."

"I am not certain," Daos admits. "It may not be possible at all. But it is something worth considering, if the opportunity comes up."
