"It isn't illegal," Ladonna says. "I'm looking for clues as to where Jherek could be, and he has a locked chest in his room. Is parents are allowing me to search."

"His parents are okay with breaking into his things?" Tavos repeats, not sure he heard that right. "Well, I guess...if it's not going to land me in the stocks again, that'd be okay."

"I had one glass of cider half an hour ago," Lillian explains. "And I feel drunk now and I don't like it."

Bula gives a hearty laugh, but then stops. "Oh...you're being serious." She quietly returns to making the tea. When it's done, she places the steaming cup in front of Lillian.

Ladonna motions for Tavos to follow her, as she head back to Jherek's place. She doesn't waste anytime in going back to Jherek's room. She had managed to explain this whole thing as a way to find Jherek, so she was hoping that there was something in that chest.

Once back in Jherek's room, Tavos kneels down to the chest and pulls out a rolled up cloth from his sleeve. Unfurling it reveals a number of picks and other tools inside. He starts to work at the chest, Thessila watching from the doorway anxiously.
After a couple of minutes of manipulating the picks, there's an audible click and the top pops open. Tavos lights up, and says, "I did--" but is cut off when a small dart shoots out of the chest, right into his belly. The half-elf collapses onto the ground, shivering and convulsing.

Lillian sips the tea, already feeling a bit better. "You seem so surprised," she tells Bula.

"Just never known a bard to not like drinking," Bula answers. "You are still a bard, right? Or did you give that up? I admit, I haven't kept up with things since you left Buho."

"I'm still a bard, though not a particularly good one," Lillian answers as she drinks. "In the sense that I still hate parties, hate flirting, have few social skills...well, at least I can play and sing."

"More of a minstrel then," Bula observes. "Not that there's anything wrong with that."

Ladonna's eyes widen, and kneels down next to Tavos. She mutters a few curses, and looks to Jherek's mom. "Get a healer! Hurry!"

"Of course not. I suspect many bards become minstrels when they get on in years...well, I'm thirty-ish, though I don't look like it," Lillian rambles. "...still on the young side, though."

Ladonna Thessila gawks in shock for a few moments, then asks while stunned, "A healer? Where?"
Lillian "So why be a bard, if you dislike it so much?" Bula asks, wiping down the bar with a clean rag.

"Well, I don't have the smarts to be a mage, the strength to be a warrior, the faith to be a cleric, or the loose understanding of personal property to be a thief," Lillian says, shrugging. "Barding is all I'm good at, really."

"And those were the only career opportunities you considered?" Bula asks. "You could be all sorts of things, you know. I'm a bartender. Damon's a potter. There must be a specific reason you decided to pursue bardhood."
