Kaelestia follows the other to help with the search.
OOC
Personally I'd start at the beginning of the arena, but I don't want to deal with Arthogate's dog right now, so Kaelestia will start inspecting that little cave under the place where the octopus was

Kaelestia returns to the water pit where they faced the giant octopus. Oddly, it seems to have vanished entirely; apparently the pit must lead somewhere large enough to fit an entire giant octopus.

Sumina is searching walls and such before she ends up at the octopus pit. "They are kind of stupid," she says to Sha'al. "That octopus had to come from somewhere."

"Do you think this passage could lead to the open sea?" - Kaelestia says, admiring the water. She raises her eyes, looking at the sea elf: "Sha'al, would you feel comfortable in checking it out?"

Sha'al mutters something about being bait but nods as he sloughs off his pack and weapons. Keeping his armor, gaff behind his belt and both hands on his trident he nods to the others. Back in a bit, or I'll see you all in whatever hell we end up in together. he delivers the last with a wry grin.
Making a sign against Zeboim's humors, the sea elf dives into the pool. Proceeding as carefully as he is able, Sha'al scans for any sign of the creature, and then for what he deems the most likely path to lead out
===
Is there any movement/ current to the water that might feel like there is a path out?

Sha'al dives into the water with a splash, sinking to the bottom. There is no sign of the octopus, but he feels a definite current through a tunnel heading southward. Putting his trident away (it's difficult to swim with both hands occupied), he follows it for about five minutes before it opens up into the ocean itself, off the south shore of the island.
He also notes a small group of Dimernesti elves not too far from the tunnel entrance, seemingly patrolling the area.

Kaelestia waits and prays for Sha'al's safety.

Does the patrol seem heavily armed or to be looking for escapees? If the patrol seems benign to him, he'll wave one over to chat and see if he can figure a way out for his crew

The Dimernesti appear surprised to see one of their own, yet not one they recognize. They have a village nearby, and are simply hunting and gathering. Sha'al notes one of them wears a medallion of faith for Abbuku the Fisher (or Habbakuk as surfacers call him).
They ask how they can help.

I'm not sure if you will be able to help, but you might be my only shot. My allies and I were captured and forced to fight by these Minotaur in their arena. I was able to find a hidden way out through water, but it took a few minutes and they are all surface peoples. If we were able to get them air for a short time or help them get out faster maybe we could make it.
I don't suppose you have any friendly dolphins or anything that could help us? We probably don't have a lot of time before the Minotaurs that caught us come looking.
==== You said 5 minutes or so to leave the cave right? I seem to recall holding your breath in 2e is something like 1/3 of your con score in rounds then you start making checks not to die. Is that right?
Also, once we're out, not sure how we get back to our ship...

The one bearing the medallion of faith swims forward and says, "I can grant temporary water breathing to your friends, and we can use our sea otter forms to help them swim, if they cannot do so themselves," he offers.

Sha'al sighs with relief. Gods that's great news. We'd be pretty well stuck otherwise. It's just this way. Sha'al leads them back to where his party waits.
Climbing back out into the arena he informs the party. I found some locals who think they can help. They'll make it so you can breathe water and help us swim out. All the gear we have is probably going to slow us without that.
But, once we get out we need to find some way off this rock and back to our ship.
=== if Sha'al loads down with gear and then transforms into a sea otter, does he have encumberance as an otter? Is the gear melded with him or left behind?

"Well, getting out of here is already a huge achievement. Well done, Sha'al." - Kaelestia says, looking at the water to see the people Sha'al is talking about.

Arthogate "Hmm well that is good news. At least we can get out of this damned arena."
