Brawl on GameCube and Melee on Wii were a regular thing with my roommates and I, way back when. The Super Smash Bros. games are probably the only "social" video gaming I ever did, but man...they sure were fun! I'll bet I could still wreck some newbs with Kirby and/or Samus, even though it's been more than a few years...

I've finished my Sorcerer run in Diablo. I still think the ending to the original Diablo is the weirdest thing ever. So you've just defeated a primal evil, the equivalent to the Devil basically, and sealed it away in a gem. Do you: A.) Find the deepest, darkest cavern there is and bury it under a mountain of rock B.) Sail out to the deepest sea and drop it into the ocean C.) Just jam it, really hard, into your forehead. What could possibly go wrong?
Anyway, it wasn't easy. Due to the randomness of the game, I didn't get Mana Shield until more than half-way through, Chain Lightning until the second to last level and Fireball until the very last level. Yeah, I was relying on Firebolt and Lightning Bolt for pretty much the whole game.

C.) Just jam it, really hard, into your forehead. What could possibly go wrong? Heh heh. Maybe it's like the One Ring from Tolkien, and calls out to mortals nearby and uses its dark magic to seduce them into using it? Otherwise, yeah, I see no reason (assuming it can't be destroyed) why you wouldn't immediately drop what you were doing, travel at once to the most remote region of the planet, and do everything humanly possible to make it as inaccessible as you can for as long as you can. Actually, it might be a good idea to consult with the wisest sages and most powerful wizards of the land, and see if you can't jettison it out in to the vacuum of space somehow. Maybe even fling it into the sun.

Possibly? If so, the game doesn't convey that very well. As you can see in the video, he just kind of looks at it, then jams it into his forehead. *shrugs*

Well...it happens in the lord to the Tal Rasha fella too. The idea of the egomania required to believe you could use your human body to trap one of the most potent evil forces in all of creation...liquifies my brain cells.

In fairness, we should keep in mind that this game came out in...1996? Cutting to FMV as a storytelling device in a video game was a pretty new thing, and if memory serves Diablo was one of the (if not the) first big name, massively popular titles for PC to do it. So, in light of the fact that they were kind of exploring uncharted territory, artistically speaking, perhaps allowances should be made. Having said that (I can never resist playing Devil's advocate...or bad puns ), you make a good point. If that was what they were going for, at the very least they could have prefaced the ending video with a little monologue or something illustrating the hero succumbing to the evil jewel's seduction. My best guess is they were up against deadlines and technological limitations, and decided it was good enough as-is to ship. I wouldn't be surprised to learn those Diablo CD-ROMs were packed tight all the way up to the 700 MB storage limit, and fitting more assets into it would've necessitated cutting something else out somewhere.

I started playing Dungeon Keeper lately. I got it for free on GOG awhile back. Basically, the premise is you have to build a dungeon, fill it with treasure, traps and monsters, and then kill any adventurers that try and dig their way in. I'm only as far as level 4, so far. It's essentially an RTS game, and I'm garbage at those, so I don't know if I'll be able to finish it. (I once had to give up on Blood and Magic, because it was just too hard; the only RTS game I've ever finished has been on the easiest mode or with lots of cheats).

I spent a few hours this weekend playing an older game I'd gotten my hands on but then never actually played

I finished The Last Guardian. The ending was sad, but not in the way I expected it to be. Speaking of which, has anyone seen the trailer for the remake of Shadows of the Colossus? It's pretty gorgeous.

I started playing Dragonball Xenoverse recently. I made a red Namekian based on an actual OC I used to play in a roleplaying chat when I was like 16. He's an original character (DO NOT STEAL), but I can't take screenshots on PS3, so I can't show you all what he looks like.

Man, I'm a sucker for character customization. That's what got me into Fire Emblem: Awakening, one of my favorite games to date, and the recently released Sonic Forces, which is...not one of my favorite games to date.

Oh, yeah, same here. I play a lot of RPGs, and many of them allow one to custom create their own character. Some are more robust than others. I was reading the other day about this insanely detailed character creation system for some Korean game.
Ah, here it is. Black Desert? I have no idea what it's about (looks like an RPG or maybe a MMORPG?) but those are pretty impressive character generation tools.

True. Of course, I'm not allowed to play M-Rated games, and I'm veerrry careful with the T ones.

Yeah, I'm a big RPG sorta guy too! Darn near everything has customizable PCs these days. I am in love with Dragon's Dogma, and have been for some time...the ability to make two fully customized characters is great, especially because my Son and Daughter love to "play" with daddy. So i have two saves on two separate Xbox accounts. One where I adventure as the Knight and my daughters character wears a princess dress and has pink dreadlocks, and another wear I'm an assassin and my son's archer looks just like him but with elf ears. They get really invested in how well their warriors do.
I once spent nearly an entire 2 days getting a character in Fallout 4 to have almost my exact face.....

(I once had to give up on Blood and Magic, because it was just too hard; the only RTS game I've ever finished has been on the easiest mode or with lots of cheats). Dungeon Keeper was my Jam when I was younger(or more specifically, Dungeon Keeper 2)-I still have the original disc somewhere in the house. If it makes you feel better I remember it being unfair at times. I always liked RTS's, especially ones with science fiction/Fantasy elements. My favorite as a youngster was Metal fatigue(You can actually DL it here for free!), because it had giant robots in it, and you could cut off their limbs/kill the pilots and steal it from them, followed by the Total War series, Black & White, etc. Recently me and Ezeze sunk quite a few hours into Stellaris. notARobot Civ is also fun, as Ez said(we used to play it over the internet while I was saving up to move in ) >List of quotes above about Smash< I too have spent a lot of time playing smash. Probably about 1/3rd of my University life was spent in a room with 10+ people playing on off-hours. I skipped the Wii-U and the 3ds so sadly I haven't played much of the new games, though I liked Rosalina a lot. I mained Samus or Marth for most of the series. Speaking of which, has anyone seen the trailer for the remake of Shadows of the Colossus? It's pretty gorgeous. Yes, and it's currently on the list of 'Games to make Ezeze play' along with final Fantasy VII I also played Xenoverse! I finished the storyline with a Majin, but the games RNG rewards for most of the extra content meant I didn't do more than a single playthrough. I am in love with Dragon's Dogma, and have been for some time.. I am too! I played it a bunch because I love have NPC companions/friends, especially when their customizable. I finished Hollow Knight a few weeks ago, and they just released new content for it so I'm pretty excited about that, if only because the game is so unfailingly gorgeous.I also just caught back up on the Wolfenstein train, but The New Colossus is kinda buggy so I'm waiting for patches to keep going.
