Old man Daos, looking to start one of those newfangled 5E games? Say whaaaaaaat? So Gontoria is going well, and Octhania is almost ready to get started, so that brings up the question, what's next? Originally I had thought to start work on Lost Souls Crizzara, and I still intend to do so later, but I had an idea to first, try my hand at running a 5E game. I've been playing in a Dragonlance one for about a year and a half now, and I've been watching GameGrumps' 'Dragons and Places' as well as TeamFourStars' 'At the Table.' And I feel like I'm ready to get on the other side of the screen. There's an island far off the mainland in my Lost Souls setting called Tronca. It's isolated enough that I feel it makes a good 'test server' to try 5E out. So I can experiment with things there without them affecting the rest of the world. So to be clear, I haven't even started work on Tronca yet. I'm not asking for submissions, or character pitches or commitments. It'll probably be anywhere from 3-6 months before I'm ready for any of that. This is just an interest check. I'm curious if anyone here would be interested in such a thing. As I'm new at 5E, I'd rather try this out with people I've already gamed with at least once before, as opposed to a bunch of strangers. If you want to learn 5E yourself, it could be useful to learn together. If you already know 5E, maybe you can help me not look too foolish as I fumble around. Some additional notes: This game would be core only. I only have access to the PHB, DMG and MM right now, and I don't want to overwhelm myself anyway with a bunch of splatbooks. Also, no houserules, since I'm trying to learn the rules. This will be a much more 'standard' sort of game. I don't have any kind of metaplot in mind yet, and if I can't think of one, I might just make the whole thing a sandbox. The island isn't that big, after all, so it might be more fun to just let the party roam around and do their own thing. Any questions, let me know.

I don't think it really matters what edition the game is to me. It depends on what kind of game it will end up being. I don't typically enjoy sandboxes.

5E was my introduction to the franchise, without it, I wouldn’t have gotten into Order of the Stick and I wouldn’t be posting here right now. So, yes. I’m in.

Well, it's always possible some great story idea will come to me as I work on the setting--it's happened before. But yeah, the main point of this game is for me to learn the ropes of 5E.
Okay, great. That's one person, at least.

I find 5e super fun and super easy to delve into. There are layers at play that can make it quite complex...but it is simple enough that my 7 year old son and 5 year old daughter can play...so yeah. I'm game. It's what I run at home currently. DM fiat is the best, and bonded accuracy makes combat easy, deadly, and fun!

Awesome, that's half a party right there then.

I'm not particularly motivated to learn 5th edition, but exploring Amtar has been a blast so far in the Gontoria campaign (and soon the Octhania one as well, I'm sure!). So part of me would want to join in on this just because I'd hate to miss out on seeing more of this wonderful imaginary world you've created.
On the other hand, I'm now playing in three different games on here, and even though two of those are just getting started, it's beginning to feel like that might be my limit, in terms of both the time commitment involved and just keeping the different characters straight in my head.
On the other other hand, maybe that part will get easier as I get a better feel for playing Sebastian and Mathias. And who knows how much free time I'll have three to six months from now. I guess what I'm saying is...put me down for a maybe.
Do you have a rough idea of when LS:Crizzara might be starting up?

Really depends on a lot of variables. It took me 4 years to get Gontoria ready, but I did start over several times and wasn't in any serious hurry. Octhania took over a year, but most of the work was already done from a previous game I ran there.
So extrapolating from that, somewhere between 1 to 4 years, I guess. Hopefully around a year or so, though, if I can.

I usually stick with 1E, 2E or OSRIC, just because of the time and effort of learning a different rule set. That being said, I also like to develop interesting characters within those rule sets.
As D&D has developed, the rules have allowed for more peculiar character development, Since this check is more of a play test of a new rule set, I would suggest a railroad.
If time allows, and the development maintains a mild enough pace, I'd express an interest.

I'd be down, even if 5E isn't my favorite edition . Consider my hat tossed into the ring as it were.

After a great deal of soul-searching, I've decided I would like to take part in your upcoming 5e game, if you'll have me. I'll be brushing up on the rules between now and the target starting date, so I won't be going in totally clueless...but I still expect I'll be less familiar than everyone else.

Okay, so here's an update.
I might have bitten off more than I can chew, at least all at once. Learning 5E and updating my setting for it at the same time is proving more difficult than I had thought.
I've decided instead I'm going to run a 5E module that I picked up recently, called "Lost Mine of Phandelver" to help me get a better hands-on feel of the mechanics while I continue working on Tronca in the background. It's a good beginner adventure, and compared to some of the old school modules I've gone over, fairly well written, too. So I'm looking for 4-5 volunteers to sign up on this adventure. Some more info:
It's Forgotten Realms. Not my favorite setting, but one I'm fairly familiar with. Specifically, the game is contained within the Sword Coast, near (but not actually in) Neverwinter.
It takes the party from level 1 to level 5, so isn't too long. (Unlike other editions, the first few levels in 5E arrive fairly quickly; it only takes 6500 XP to hit level 5.)
The same rules I mentioned for the Tronca game will apply here, as well. So no house rules, core only, etc. The main objective here is to help me learn 5E. So if you want to learn it yourself, or you're just curious and want to give it a try, or if you really love Forgotten Realms, or if you already know 5E and want to show me how it's done, or any other reason, consider signing up.
As this is my first 5E attempt, I'd rather not recruit off-site for it. I'd be more comfortable with people I've gamed with before than complete strangers. Thus, if I'm completely unable to find the minimum of four people, I'll probably add some NPCs to the group to make up the difference.
Because this is a module in a published setting, all the real work has been done already. So we can start as soon as I can recruit some players. I'll open a new forum for it soon.

You can count me in. To my surprise, the more time I spend reading through the 5e PHB, the more I find myself liking this edition. There are certain aspects where the way 2e handles things matches my preferences better: I like how the 2e rulebooks assume that magic is rarer and more special, for instance, and I think I prefer for most of the complexity in character creation to be front-loaded rather than spread out over ten or fifteen levels.
But overall the rules feel solid, simple, and easy-to-learn. I'm looking forward to giving it a go.

Once again, I will join, being rather experienced in 5E. Time for me to show you all how it's done!

Ah, sure, why not? I don't really have an idea for a character concept though.
