"I'm not going to be able to operate that lift," Ladonna points out.

"I will." Ryan says in his usual confident manner.
He hands one of the potions to Katya. "Drink this, you'll feel better."
OOC: Not sure how much healing we want to expend here. I hate over healing when it isn't life or death. Having a CLW and a Potion on hand is a good idea.

"Whoa whoa whoa," Theron says suddenly, as everyone starts chiming in with their two coppers about how they think the logistics of their ascent to the first floor should be managed. "This whole 'thing' we've got going on right now, the group problem-solving dynamic where everybody's got their creativity cranked up to eleven, brainstorming out loud, and building off of one another's ideas? I love it, I really do. I think it shows how far we've come together, how we've learned to act like a team, think like a team."
"But in this case...aren't we overthinking this? We had a perfectly good method of organizing our movement between levels before -- I don't see why we'd go mucking around with it now. I only pointed out the possibility of an ambush and the delay between our groups' arrivals so we'd all be mentally prepared..."
Looking pensive all of a sudden, Theron trails off. "...although, now that I think about it, Katya's idea does have some merit -- if the first one's up are ambushed, it makes sense for them to have the stone, to put the attackers at a disadvantage. So the humans and Finbul can ride up first, while the rest of us and our new companion" -- he gestures to Nak'skree -- "go second."
Theron thinks it over a bit more, then adds, "I think replacing Ingot as our lift operator is a bad call, though. He clearly knows what he's doing, and he's proven that he's strong enough to turn the winch without difficulty. If you all really feel that Katya's group needs more brawn, then swap Ladonna or Finbul with Jherek for the first trip."
"Oh yeah, and...Jherek?" he says, leaning over to the half-elf and speaking in a quieter tone. "Would you mind lending our friend Nak'skree here one of your axes, since you've got like a bajillion of them?"

Ladonna motions to Theron when he puts in his two cents on the whole matter. "I think I would be of more help in the second group than in the first," she admits. "Providing that we are attacked when we go up. That might mean standing in the dark, but I won't be in the dark for long once I get up to join the rest of the group. "

"Staying down here in the dark sounds terrifying" Katya comments, the moment before she downs the potion Ryan handed her.

"and I'd rather not leave our friends who can see in the dark without a fighter, but if you'd rather stay down here then be in the vanguard I understand."

"Just four left, actually," Jherek replies. He hands one to Nak'skree, and she looks at it dubiously.
"Uh, thanks," she says. "I have no training with such a weapon, and I barely have the strength to lift it, so again, I hope you aren't expecting me to be of any use to you at all in a fight."
Katya quaffs the potion Ryan handed her. This causes the spear wound that nearly killed her before to mostly heal up, but not entirely. The rat bites and the damage she took from the piercer remain, though.
Still bloodied, she steps up onto the lift. Ryan, Finbul and Ingot join her, as does Jherek.
Ingot starts raising the lift upward, leaving the others in completely total darkness. It is so dark, Ladonna's eyes cannot even adjust. It is pure black to her, she is unable to even make out basic shapes. Lillian, Theron, Garnet and Nak'skree can see just fine, however.
After a couple of minutes, the lift reaches the first level again. No ambush awaits them, and it's completely quiet. Looking down the southward corridor, it appears that the unconscious goblins are gone, as is the baby and the gear Jherek left behind. The trap door remains open, however.
"Shall I...go and retrieve...the others?" asks Ingot.
=============
"Life or death" like a big boss battle sort of situation?
Katya drinks a Potion of Healing, restoring (2d4+2): 2,2+2 = 6 HP. Katya improves to seriously wounded.
To clarify what Nak'skree is trying to say, she is down to 1 HP and she'll suffer an attack penalty when using the hand axe.

"Yes, please." Katya responds to Ingot. She steps off the elevator.
"Make sure Ladonna gets on the elevator? Or, ask someone down there to - like Lillian? I can think of few fates worse than being alone in darkness like that."

"Interesting how Katya sounded downright petrified about the idea of standing down here in darkness, while the prospect hardly seems to faze you at all, Miss Marche," Theron tells Ladonna, passing the time as they await Ingot's return. "Would you say this reflects your preference for facing unknown dangers over known ones, or am I perhaps reading too much into things?"

Ladonna turns her head in the direct in which she heard Theron's voice, and smiles slightly at his thoughts. "I'll admit that the darkness is a unnerving, but for the moment I don't fear it," she says thoughtfully. "Unknown dangers are challenges which allow me to use my mind in more creative ways, so I suppose you could say I do prefer the unknown better than the known."

While the others wait above, Ingot lowers the lift back down to the third floor. "All is clear...above," he announces to the complete darkness. Ladonna, Lillian, Theron, Garnet and Nak'skree all climb aboard, and once they give the signal, he begins raising the lift back up. Once it reaches the top, the light of Ryan's stone allows everyone to see equally again.

Katya's eyes run along the walls and ceiling.
"In the absence of a better plan- I suppose we should start looking for that secret door."

"The more eyes the more chances that we catch something" Katya responds. She's not hard about it. She approaches the trap in the floor cautiously; the Bloody Spear have already proven willing to use traps.

"Shouldn't we leave that to Theron?" Ladonna asks. "He would be the best in this situation." "While I'm flattered by your confidence in my abilities, Miss Marche," Theron says, "I am inclined to agree with Katya on this: the more, the merrier." Studying the room around him, Theron says, "I could be wrong, but this area exactly scream 'hidden secrets' to me. That first room, though...the one with the animal carcass, where Jherek found those dice -- my instincts are telling that would be a good place to start looking." "Anyone else have any thoughts on the subject?" he asks. "Nak'skree -- when they led you from the Hooded One to the lift here...do you remember about how far the distance was, how many paces? That would be a very helpful clue." He starts walking back towards the cave's entrance as he awaits a response. (EDIT: When they reach the room in question, Theron will start shoving armfuls of debris around, nudge over the chamber pot, kick over the animal carcass...in short, disturbing all the stuff littered around the room, in hopes of uncovering a clue.) (EDIT #2: And by "nudge over" I mean, like, carefully slide a few inches across the floor, not like "spill the contents everywhere" )

Katya walks up to the lip of the open trap and peers down into it. The goblin she killed before still lies within. But is otherwise empty.
Theron and Jherek search the guard room thoroughly, going through the debris and animal carcass, but finding nothing to hint at a secret door.
"If Miss Nak'skree...had to climb a ladder...to reach the door...then it stands to reason...what we are looking for...is up," Ingot reasons.
"It's hard to remember exactly," she says. "Maybe...70 to 100 feet from the entrance, roughly?"
