Mathias wastes no time in snatching the powder and gunsmithing kit offered by the quartermaster. As soon as he has them in hand, he plops down on the floor, whips out his pistol, and disassembles it to whatever extent he must to clean its chamber and perform the necessary maintenance. Once these tasks are finished, he'll load the gun with a single bullet, sprinkling a dose of black powder in behind it, and run up to the deck to join the battle.
(OOC: Not sure if it's needed, but just in case here's a Gunsmithing roll, target #12:) NcZ6JGQM1d201d20

Above Deck (Kalana, Senllip, Jaeron, Arieal) More arrows are fired at the Shardarr, while the Tiaru is also rained upon. Hiven is hit, but it's not too bad. When Arieal starts lobbing balls of flame at the Shardarr, though, Julak begins yelling at her. "Crewman, I specifically said the ship is to be unharmed! If those fires get out of control, the slaves on board will die, too! If you cannot follow my orders, get down below until the battle is over!" It's almost surreal to hear Julak yell and sound so angry. He's so laid back most of the time, and usually lets Toven take the more disciplinary tone.
Fortunately, both the Shardarr's captain and first officer go down in the hail of arrows. Julak calls for the Tiaru to board. Grappling lines are thrown once the two ships are close enough, and then boarding planks are lowered. The crew of the Sharrdar immediately surrender, realizing they stand no chance.
"Cease firing! Someone get those fires put out before they get out of control!" orders Julak. "Take everyone on board alive, unless they resist!"
Below Deck (Mathias) Working quickly, Mathias cleans and prepares his gun with the kit. It is now ready to go. He can hear more shouts and cries from above deck and the captain call for a boarding party.
===========
Since the Tiaru won the maneuverability phase, it gets a +2 to its artillery and missile attacks this round. The Tiaru is a very large sized ship, so up to 40 of its 50 marines can fire bows at the same time. A 1d20 is made for every 10 marines firing, so that's 4 attack rolls. At 40 yards, long bows with flight arrows are considered short range, so no penalty.
Sd6hJ1011d201d201d201d20
This does a total of 22 hits. Now the Shardarr has a defense rating of A, so we roll a 1d10 to determine where the arrows hit.
22d10
This means 3 sailors, 4 marines and 3 officers are hit. This means the captain and the first mate go down!
Now for the PCs: Kalana fires her crossbow with advantage (+2 hit) and excellent aim (+2 hit) against leather armor (+2 hit) [TH 7] (1d20+6): 4+6 = 10, hit. She takes out a sailor. Jaeron fires his warhammer musket and automatically misses due to range (the musket has a max range of 50' but the ship is 40 yards away). Senllip fires his sling staff at medium range (-2 hit) with excellent aim (+2 hit) and halfling accuracy (+1 hit) [TH 9] (1d20+1): 17+1 = 18, hit. He takes out a sailor. 1d10 Arieal casts Melf's Minute Meteors with excellent aim (+2 hit) and magical accuracy (+2 hit) [TH 11] (1d20+4): 3+4 = 7, miss; 5+7 = 12, hit; 5+7 = 12, hit; 17+7 = 24, hit; 16+7 = 23, hit. 1d101d101d101d10 Two of the meteors hit the hull and set fire to it. I now roll to see how big the fires are: 1d101d10 Both are medium sized fires and so both deal 1d6 hull damage. 1d61d6 The ship takes 6 points of damage (if the ship reaches 0 HP, the ship sinks). Now to determine if the fires cause any casualties: 1d101d10 Both a sailor and a marine die.
So overall the Shardarr loses 6 sailors, 5 marines, the captain, the first mate, and two medium fires have broken out.
Now the Shardarr's turn. They had 16 marines left and all of them fire bows.
1d20+2
That's a total of 6 hits.
6d10
The Tiaru lose 1 sailor, 2 marines, and one PC or officer is hit. Rolling to see who it is:
1d11
Hiven is hit for (1d6): 1 damage. He is now lightly wounded. 1d6
Because the captain is dead, the Shardarr's crew makes a morale check:
Base morale is 13. The captain dying is -3, the first officier dying is -1, the ship on fire is -2, crew losses at 25% is -2, outnumbered more than 3 to 1 is -4, which brings their score down to 1. The Shardarr auto-fails and surrenders.
Round 4!
It has now been 1 minute. The two ships are 40 yards apart, so combat rounds are 1 minute long. We roll for pursuit again, and the Tiaru gets a +1 to pursuit because of last round.
Tiaru (1d6+13): 4+13 = 17 1d6 Enemy Ship (1d6+8): 3+8 = 11 1d6
The Tiaru wins again, so the same results as last time. The ships close 40 yards, so they are now 0 yards apart.
The Tiaru boards the Shardarr and starts taking prisoners. 1d20·1d20·1d20·1d20·22d10·1d10·1d10·1d10·1d10·1d10·1d10·1d10·1d6·1d6·1d10·1d10·1d20·6d10·1d11·1d6·1d6·1d6

Mathias emerges from below deck just as the first of the Tiaru's crew are boarding the Shardarr. "Just my luck," he mutters to himself. "The Blue Lightnin' proved true to their name, and kept all the fun for themselves!"
Sighing, he jogs briskly towards the nearest boarding plank. As he moves, he secures the pistol in his hand into its shoulder holster with practiced ease. In the next moment, with similar deftness and without breaking stride, he draws his prized cutlass from its sheath.

It takes another half hour to secure the Shardarr. Luckily, the fires were fairly manageable and put out quickly before they did too much damage. The remaining Bloody Chain crew do not fight back. And as Julak predicted, there were 10 slaves packed in the hold. Fortunately, none were harmed by Arieal's spell.
Once things are under way, Julak boards the Shardarr as well, along with Toven. "Hero, I want you to select a boarding party of five and head for the village. There may be more trouble there, and they might need further help, while the rest of us deal with the rest of this," he says to Kalana. "Anyone want to volunteer to go with her?"

Sheathing his cutlass once he sees he'll have no call to use it, Mathias chimes in. "I'll join ya. Seein' as how I'm on the crew now and all, I might as well get a sense for how you all operate with this sorta thing. Besides, I ain't touched land since a ways before I went for a swim...I could do with some ground beneath my boots for a spell."

"Me?" Kalana asks in surprise. She isn't exactly sure she is fit to lead people, but she isn't going to go against orders either. "Well, that's two people down," she says, changing back into her normal cheerful self. "Anyone else before I start picking on people?" she asks.
