Sounds like he's going to get along swimmingly with Bayla then. Group cohesion is overrated

Well, everybody's pretty much done with their character, so we'll be good to go on June 16. Until then, feel free to ask me questions about the setting; it gives me some world-building practice, actually builds the world, and keeps me occupied.

Sure. I've already asked about religion, so how about culture and politics? Do our characters live in a feudal style kingdom, or a merchant republic or a theocratic empire, etc.? Is this setting based off Medieval Europe with knights and barons and what have you?

Well I'm running an ex-merc. So, I guess who in the area has the gold and the motivation to hire mercenaries?

The country where you live in, South Drunik, has a Parliamentary Monarchy as a government; the King (or Queen) can declare policies, but the parliament can overturn them with a majority rule. Parliament can also propose bills to the King, or send one to him, thus forcing him to accept or veto it eventually, with a majority. Sadly, Parliament is largely corrupt, as the aristocracy often buy the votes of their comrades, thus forcing their bills upon the ruler and making sure that only policies they approve of are enacted.
The army of South Drunik is composed largely of mounted soldiers wielding swords or lances, but gunpowder has recently been invented, though a weapon that uses it has not yet been created. Foot soldiers are used as scouts and sentries.
The western edge of South Drunik (where Meyerville happens to be located) is constantly wracked with bandit attacks from the neighboring country of Sentok, a ragtag nation of Orcs and Goblins.

I'm a bit confused by your question. Are you asking who might have hired you when you were a mercenary, or are you trying to figure out who hired you now? Both. Well, the governor of the area tends to hire a lot of mercenaries to protect towns or take out bandit camps he fears are getting dangerously close, and wealthy merchants sometimes hire them as bodyguards for long trips. Besides that, however, mercenary work is pretty scarce. I realize that this discussion has nothing to do with character creation. Ready for an official OC thread, guys?
