Well Daos I never heard of it until 92 when the neighbors 2 sons introduced me to it.

Welcome Dallion80 I have been playing only a couple of years longer than you. Introduced to the game in 1988 by a coworker.

Going to be running a game with my three daughters and one with my girlfriend, her best friend, her roommate and her roommate's sister. Out of those 7 only one has ever played before.

Heh, I was only 10 in 1992.
Dallion, let us know how your game goes. Is it homebrewed or are you using an established setting like Forgotten Realms or Dragonlance?

Well that means 3 of us are all roughly the same age. Dram however I know is older than the 3 of us (Daos, Dallion & myself).

Hello all, rax reporting for duty!
I'll be playing Malavar Mantice, a half-elf fighter/priest of Tempus.
Are we recounting our first encounters with AD&D? I played my first game around 1986, when I was 13. But I honestly haven't played any serious games since the early to mid-nineties. I guess that makes me an old man, eh?

Greyhawk is my long term favourite. It hits just the right level of detail for me - enough to work with, but lots of space for a DM to personalize the setting.
As far as Dragonlance is concerned, I actually find the continent of Taladas most appealing, though I've never actually gotten to play a game there. Same with Birthright - looks cool, haven't played it. Dark Sun and Spelljammer are probably my favourite non-traditional D&D settings.

Nobody's mentioned "Ravenloft" yet. Barovia what a place oh boy. Played one game in that setting and to call it a "horror" is being kind. TPK too many times to count. However just actually read the first novel for Ravenloft and starting to get back into that setting. What a concept a place that used to be on a map "some where" but now is not a magical mist that prevents anyone from leaving except for the gypsies and lord Strahd if he chooses to. Then a mist that magically can bring outsiders from other "realms" into this land. Just started novel book #2 and we are in Taladas so I imagine the mist will bring this death knight to Barovia as well like it did with a elven vampire in Waterdeep in book one. Dark Sun I have never experienced, same with birthright. I have only played Dragonlance once, Spelljammer never played in it but some aspects of it my first DM (ever) did actually pull into his games. Namely the adventurer that had a giant mutated space hamster as a pet/steed, and some other things as well. GreyHawk I have the setting box set for always sounded interesting how they have various "sub-races" for humans with some differences about what they can do and so forth. Overall my favorite setting is Forgotten Realms. I have also did briefly play in a 4-5 session one shot of Planescape that setting is really different. Rax welcome to the game btw.

Dragonlance was always my favorite setting. I've never played in Taladas or Adlatum, only Ansalon, but I've thought about it before. Most players are only really familiar with Ansalon, though, so that's where most games wind up.
I really like Planescape and Spelljammer, but it's so rare to find games for either of them, and it's hard to find players to run either of them for.
Forgotten Realms and Greyhawk are alright. I don't feel any special connection for them, but I don't mind them. Most of what I know about FR is from the video games--Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, Neverwinter Nights, etc.
The remaining settings I don't know all that well, mostly due to a lack of playing in them.
The vast majority of my campaigns take place in my homebrew setting. Dragonlance is the only published setting I've custom made games for. Every other published setting I've DM'd for was with modules, like this one.
