"Phandalin is both old and new," the woman explains. "It was originally destroyed by an orc raid back in the 950s. It was only fairly recently that it was resettled. Some of the buildings here date back to the original Phandalin, like the old manor. That's probably where the lord or mayor lived, back in the day."
At Klaxon's mentioning of a tunnel, Carp speaks up. "I did. I was playing in the woods near the manor, see, when I found a secret tunnel in the thicket. A couple of big, ugly bandits came out of the tunnel and met with a couple of Redbrands. They didn't see me, but it was close. I think the tunnel leads to their lair."
"Carp, that was incredibly dangerous. What if they had seen you?" his mother demands.
"But they didn't! I was quiet as a barn mouse. Honest!" Carp objects.

"If it wasn't for your son, we wouldn't even know about the secret entrance," Orianna says, trying to be helpful so that the kid doesn't get into too much trouble.

"I suggest we go inspect this thicket.
I wonder if we took the cloaks off a couple of those corpses if we could pass ourselves, or at least a couple of us, off as members of the brigands."

“I done think that would work for me,” Fosco says. “Seeing as...well, you know.”

Baerisjust takes out the 3 bloodied redbrand cloaks (as he strips the corpses and I'm assuming the mule is still here)
He later points to the bloodstains and the holes made by the swords and arrows and passes them around to anyone willing to use them. He himself is comfortable with his outfit

Navarra laughs and dons one of the cloaks. "A resourceful bugger, ya are! Great thinkin', Bearis! I ain't got muggy magic left in me, but I do got plenty o' lightning!"
She shakes her head and hands the cloaks off. "They'd reco'nize me a mile away, way I was tauntin' an' cussin' them. Bettin' if'n you all had me as a prisoner though, we'd have an easier time infiltratin', if'n that's what we're goin' for. Thése folks ain't goin't'just show up all at once for nothin'. If'n I was a bettin'woman, and I am, I'd wager havin' a uniform an' all, these folks got a bigger operation than this little town. They might be expectin' reinforcement and t some point. Good plan? Bad plan?"

"I can show you where the tunnel is," offers Carp. "And I can go with you and help watch your back. I'm pretty good with a sling, but if one of you want to loan me a sword, that's good, too."
"Absolutely not!" his mother objects. "You are still a child. I won't have you running off to your death and getting in these people's way."

"Could you draw us a map as to where the tunnel is?" Orianna asks. "That might be our best bet."

"I'll wear one of the cloaks, but if we are not going to rest for the night I too am running low on magical energies. With no idea what we may face in that tunnel I reiterate my suggestion that we gather our strength and try in the morning."

Baerisonce again shows at his own bloodied clothes, then mimics washing them, and later puts to hands to his left chin resting his head on them. He latter yawns and shows a thumbs up to the mage

"I guess," Carp says, kicking a stone aside while pouting. He finds a stick and draws a crude map in the ground. It seems there is a small thicket of trees just south of the manor, at the bottom of the hill. This is where the tunnel entrance can be found. "You'll at least tell me about it, right? How you beat up the Redbrands and sent them packing?" he pleads.

Navarra smiles and nudges the halfling child with her meaty fist. "I can't let a great story like that go untold, kiddo, I'm'a tell that story 'til the day I die!" She studies Carp's map intently, mapping out in her head what she recalls passing on the way to the mansion chasing the Redbrand squad leader back to his hovel. She motions for her compatriots to huddle together and whispers to them, "Let's hatch us a plot to kill some bandits, yeah? I'm thinkin' if'n they tell everyone we done left town after one o'our own nearly got kill't," she nods and rolls her shoulder toward Baeris, "I think they'll buy it. They showed us they ain't used to dedicated ass-whuppers, an' I figure if'n we get them t'think we done left town, they ain't gon' go huntin' us, or hurt no townies for it. If'n they went a-huntin' for us, breakin' down doors and whatnot, when everyone think we done split, they'd risk an insurrection, an' I don't care how many o'them there are, they ain't gon' risk the town gettin' wise to the fact there more townies'n Redbrands unless they's some real dumb assholes. So I figure we find us some woods or a cave or somethin' to camp out in, recover our spells and lick our wounds, get cleaned up like civilized folk, an' we make our way into the manor 'round dusk. Good idea? Bad idea? What's everyone think?"

"I have a feeling that they are going to hurt the towns people no matter if we leave or not," Orianna says. "But I'm okay with the plan."

"I like the sound of that, and may I suggest young Master Carp may have a role to play in it after all. To sell the idea we left town what if we sent him back to the inn we were breaking our morning fast in with some coins and loudly announce to the proprietor that we sent him back to pay for any trouble we may have caused but we were beating our way out of the area and did not want to return to settle up."

Baerisjust shrugs. Then he pauses for a moment thinking. He mimics bandaging his arm, shows himself pretends to limp clearly needing support. And then pauses again as if drinking a mug of ale, then he gives a clearly questioning look of what the overs think of his idea
