The chamber lapses into silence. The baron frowns, as it is not lost on him that Ladonna was the only one who actually accepted the job--Katya asking to think about it and Lillian saying nothing at all.
He turns his gaze to Ladonna. "One more matter, before I dismiss you and let you return to your festival. Miss Marche, I understand that you were the only one involved in all three tasks--making contact with the Woodfang, defeating the Bloody Spear, and exposing the doppelganger cultist. I have also been told of your family history...and how you've done quite well for yourself, despite your circumstances. I am most impressed with what I've heard. Thus, I offer you a single boon--ask whatever you wish, and as long as it's in my power to grant as a baron, I will do so."

Ladonna looks down at her hands for a few moments as she considers what to ask of the Baron. He was stepping down, so the plan she had originally was out of the picture. She is also now going to Hart, so her prospects were actually better now, but no one is going to pay attention to a mere commoner. That wouldn't do at all. "Perhaps this might seem like an odd request, but I wish to be knighted," she finally says to the Baron.

"I see," the baron says. "You wish to restore your family honor then, I take it? Well, having a knight serving in my daughter's entourage would be useful. Very well. I shall see it done. You will be given a title, and if you wish, a small parcel of land in which to build an estate that can be passed down to your future children."

"It is a start to restoring my family honor," Ladonna says with a bow of her head to the Baron. "I cannot thank you enough for this," she admits with a smile. This was perfect. Now if she could try to get her father cleaned up before she leaves for Hart, things would be going perfectly.

Lillian jolts to attention, asking, "Would we be allowed to bring along any...traveling companions? I've been discussing leaving Buho with an acquaintance, and this seems like a good opportunity."

"We will hold the ceremony before the snows melt," the baron says. Then to Lillian, he adds, "If you wish, and feel they are trustworthy, but I will not be offering them a stipend or considering them part of this job."

"So it would be up to them if they want to join us or not," Ladonna says. "We would probably have to find a way to pay them too as they probably won't have a place to stay while in Hart."

Ladonna smiles as she turns to leave as she is pretty ecstatic about becoming knighted. That opens up so many doors in her mind.

"If something happened to the Baroness, if she got hurt or taken advantage of, it would be our fault. This isn't a decision to be made lightly."
"If you'll excuse me." She takes he leave of Ladonna and Lillian and heads towards the church.
