Working together, the two manage to find some caribou tracks in the snow. It looks like a herd of them passed through this area very recently.

Drezden signals to Krah the tracks then to keep his eyes open indicating one to go left the other right of the tracks trying to scout the area following the tracks.

The two follow the tracks, trying to stay downwind when they can, and after about twenty minutes or so, they come across a small herd of caribou about 50 yards away from them. Luckily, the creatures do not seem to have noticed their approach yet.

Drezden looks for the largest of the heard and will try to take a shot with his crossbow. (That I should have mentioned I was going to grab once back at the camp if I didn't have it.)

With one shot, Drezden fells one of the beasts. The others scatter in panic, running off to the horizon, leaving the dead one to its fate.

Dallion finds the book in question among the rest of the treasure they've procured from the tower during their many expeditions down into it. It is bound in black leather, with a styled capital 'M' on the cover. The book is 11 inches high, 7 inches wide and 3 inches thick.
Carefully opening the book, he finds that the script within is all encrypted in arcane writing. Casting his Read Magic spell, the spidery language suddenly becomes legible to him. But there is a lot to go through. Reading the entire book from cover to cover could take days. Attempting to skim it for a specific passage would take hours.

Drezden starts work on getting a cookfire started up while Krah gets the meat off the carcass to cook. "Dallion you able to read that book so we can finally determine if it is evil or not?"

Drezden and Krah skin and cook the caribou, making everyone breakfast. There's even enough meat left over for dinner, as well.
It is a very thick book and it will take a long time to even skim through most of it to find what Dallion is searching for. He spends the rest of the morning, afternoon and even that evening reading and still hasn't found it yet. He takes a couple of hours over the day to rest his eyes, use the bathroom, eat and drink, etc. But he forgoes sleep entirely and stays up all night with it.
Finally, on the morning of the next day, he finds what he is looking for.
The book is primarily Damien's personal musings, on the nature of life and death, his quest for power and lichdom, and an incomplete formula for concocting the necessary potion to become a lich. It seems in the end, he was never able to finish it before his own death. However, there is no mention--even a passing reference--to a healing salve at all.
