"Mage Sern was next on my list," Ladonna says.

Ladonna Marche "Ah, that's easy," Winters replies. "He's in the office next door to this one. He's a church mage, so we keep him close to the temple, you see. He also serves as almoner. In any case, I wish you good luck on your endeavor. And I expect to see you downstairs tomorrow for services. It will be Rockday, after all."

"I shall be there," Ladonna says. She bows her head, and then leaves to visit the mage.

“That would be nice,” Lillian admits. “I was hoping to refine the lite a little, but broadening my horizons is just as good.”

Ladonna MarcheLadonna heads to the office next door, and the difference between this one and Winter's is as stark as night and day. This office is bare stone and wood. In the center is a single table, nicked and worn. A plain wooden chair is pulled up behind it. On the table is a small bowl containing three copper coins. One small picture of a man, woman and child hangs on the east wall. Behind the table and chair are several large, plain cabinets. They hold mostly papers, writing supplies and thin books. A man sits at the table. He looks to be around sixty and has a frail look to him. A walking staff leans against his desk. His face is kindly, even grandfatherly. He has dark skin, dark eyes and white hair and beard. He looks up at Ladonna in a bit of surprise. "Oh, hello. Have you come to make a donation?" Lillian"We can do that, too," Foxmore says. "Just come by my office in a few days, once you've had a chance to get settled in, and we'll see what we can do."

“That sounds wonderful! Thank you for your time,” Lillian says with a bow before taking her leave.

"Ah, no," Ladonna says. "But I will when I can. I'm Ser Ladonna Marche, and I was hoping to meet with you, Ser Sern," she says pleasantly.

Ladonna Marche "Well then, this should be interesting," Sern says with a warm smile. "You are here to see me, but not for a donation? Is this about my son then? You two look about the same age."
Lillian Foxmore smiles and then heads off to whatever task she was on before, leaving Lillian alone in the hall to decide what to do next.

Ladonna seems slightly surprised that this man would think she was here about his son. "Actually, no," Ladonna says with a slight laugh. "I am new here, having just escorted Lady Escott here from Buho. I had heard you were a mage, and since I practice the art, I wished to meet you."

Ladonna Marche "Ah, a fellow sorcerer," Sern says. "It's always nice to meet another. Magic has always run in my family. My son is quite an adept at it, as well. Taught him everything I know, you know. My wife wasn't as pleased. She had hoped he'd follow her footsteps into the clergy. But the boy has a gift! Anyway, who was your teacher? Maybe someone I know?"

"I am going to have to make it a point to meet your son then, as I am always interested in meeting others that pratice the art," Ladonna says. "My teacher, well I think they would prefer that I keep their name secret unfortunately. Buho is a small village, and they were never very kind to the idea of mages. I had to keep this a secret until just recently."

Ladonna Marche "Oh my...then you were a witch? I'm surprised you would be so honest about it, but I'm glad for it," Sern says. "Honesty is important, especially these days. It's one of Gonto's highest virtues. But you're saying that there's another witch, right in Buho? That is...disquieting. Most live in the wilderness as outlaws. To think one is living in one of our towns, unchecked is... Still, I'm glad you came to me with this."

"I was," Ladonna says. "But if I wasn't one, then I wouldn't have been able to save Buho the many times that I did," she points out. "And I wouldn't have been able to do that without my mentor," she adds. "Indirectly, my mentor has saved that town with teaching me. In a way, you could say that it was the will of Gonto for all of this to have happened. My mentor is doing no harm, but is just trying to live out life peacefully.

Ladonna Marche "On the contrary, had you been taught by a sanctioned mage, you could have done even more," Sern points out. "That you were able to save Buho in spite of poor training is more of a reflection of your own raw talent than any skill of your mentor. And how can one be doing no harm when they are actively breaking the law? The law exists for a reason. Magic is very powerful and can be easily abused; I'm sure you know this yourself. That is why a mage must be employed by either the church or a noble, to ensure that they are kept in check. Now, now, put your mind at ease. You did the right thing in telling me. Gonto rewards those who are honest. And I'm glad you've since rectified your own law-breaking. Forgive me for prying, but are you married? We've been trying to find a good match for my son, you see. He's a good man, I think you might like him."
Lillian Lillian knows that Finbul, along with the others, went to the guesting house to see about housing. So she heads there. She doesn't find him there, but asking the servants if they had seen him, one of them directs her to the garden just outside the guesting house. Stepping outside, she finds herself in a nice, well cared for garden that nevertheless doesn't get much direct sunlight due to the buildings and walls in the way. A wide path encircles the garden, and several paths make tight loops through the shrubs and flowers. A few secluded stone benches lie beneath the small, ornamental trees. A wooden gazebo stands in the center of the garden. She spots Finbul over by one of the trees, his right palm on the bark, as if he were communing with it.
