"I am Dorias Mar-Quon, Cavalier of Ergoth, and these are my companions Lady Ravarie and Grognak," Dorias introduces the group. "It is as Ravarie said, but we are also the bringers of unfortunate news for Miss Amalia. We found the wreck of the fishing boat Kingfisher some miles down the coast along with the bodies of its crew. Would you perchance be Marieta?"

"I am she," the woman admits. "The Kingfisher's crew is all dead then? I see. Then it is as I've said. Zeboim is angry. Maybe now the people will listen. I had best attend to Amalia then. Her betrothed and mother were on that boat."

"What exactly are you wanting the people to do?" Ravarie asks.

Marieta pulls her cloak tighter around her. "Why, to pay tribute to Zeboim, of course. We are a people of mostly fishermen. We even take boats out into her sea, and never offer thanks. We only pay tribute to Habbakuk. That is why so many ills are plaguing our town. The sick fish, the feral wolves, even the storm, are all warnings of her growing anger."

Ravarie decides to keep her mouth shut because she has a feeling this woman is not a follower of the Blue Phoenix. She highly doubts that her God would forsake this town, and she highly doubts Zebiom cares about this tiny town.

"Zeboim is a fickle mistress, it's true. Maybe she is offended that she hasn't been receiving proper tribute. On the other hand, she may take your tribute and sink your boats for her amusement. It's hard to tell, how to properly honour the gods," Dorias answers with a shrug. "I do wonder, though, why the Sea Witch would make her displeasure known by sending wolves to attack your village. She is the mistress of oceans and storms, not the beasts of the forest. Something to think about, at any rate..."

"Maybe not summoned by 'gods,'" Grognak suggests. "Maybe summoned by people."

"I wouldn't expect outsiders to understand our ways," Marieta replies coolly. "In any case, it's no concern of yours. Now if you'll excuse me, I'll say goodnight here and check on poor Amalia." Assuming no further questions or comments, she heads inside.

Ravarie raises an eyebrow as the woman disappears inside, and shakes her head. "Hmm, she gives me a bad feeling," she says softly.

"The only person in town eager to offer tribute to the Dragon Turtle gives you a bad feeling? I can't imagine why," Dorias answers wryly. "We should be wary of her until we know more about the situation here, and we should request permission from the local lord to conduct an investigation in the morning."

"Why do we need permission to look into this matter?" Ravarie asks as she heads back to the inn.

"Because the lord is the law of the land here. If we start our investigation without consulting him, he may see us as troublemakers and take action to stop us or remove us. Then we will be of no help to the people here at all."

"But what if he is the one that is behind all the problems in this town?" Ravarie asks.

Grognak gives Ravarie a look of confusion. "What do you mean, 'town responsible?' Town...not alive," he says, gesturing to the various buildings.

The three of them walk while talking, and return to the inn without further incident. Reeker, Sorrith and Lalora are still in the common room, as is the innkeeper.
