Part 1: The Village of Hommlet

[Margrave]

Narya points to her ear and shakes her head then readies an arrow on her bowstring before peering carefully into the open door.

Opening the tower door reveals the upper portion of the tower has collapsed, and the interior is dark. A scattering of husks and a few bones lie on the floor, and some rubble from where the upper portion of the tower collapsed in there is a gleam of something possibly of coins mixed in with the rubble and trash. The stairwell is still intact along with the floor to the upper level from the looks of things from the doorway.

[Daos]

While Narya checks things out in the tower, Daos keeps an eye out in the courtyard, in case anyone tries to sneak up on them.  He clutches his sling, already loaded with a stone, nervously.

[Rax]

Peeking into the tower from behind Narya, Roshek speaks: "There's husks and bones and it's dark in there. If there are brigands here, it doesn't look like they make use of the place. And unless someone's using this tower as a midden, the fact that there's bones on the floor bodes ill. Either things crawl in there to die, or there's something in there that makes 'em dead. There's boot prints heading for the main building. I suggest we go look there instead."

[ does clearing away some of the collapsed portion to see what is gleaming appear to be a safe undertaking or potentially hazardous from a structural standpoint?]

(ooc: the clearing of the debris if done carefully might be safe depends how deep into it you want to clear. Also I made a goof on my part the prints went to this tower and also to the main building and up the stars of area 5 on the map.)

[how deep in is what is gleaming? Tristen would like more clues to what happened here, and who or what might have been trapped in the collapse]

(ok the glimmer is not too far into the debris you could clear that fairly fast maybe ten minutes tops.)

Tristen mentions to the others, Might not take long to see what that is. He gestures to the glittering.  And it might give us a better understanding of what happened her or what we will face.  Either way he will go with the group consensus.

[Daos]

"If there is something dangerous in there, wouldn't it be prudent to check it out and make sure, rather than risk letting it come up behind us later?" Daos asks.

[Rax]

"Lad, if there's something dangerous in there, I'll wager it's not a brigand ambush and it's probably not interested in coming out after us. But if we're going to spend time digging around that tower just to make sure, then all we're doing is giving the brigands a better chance to get away or to set up a real ambush," Roshek replies.

[Daos]

"Get away where, though?  Isn't this the bandits' base?" Daos asks.  "If they all pack up and leave...doesn't that mean we win?"

[Rax]

"Sure, if they go away and stay away, that's a win for us and the good people of Hommlet. But if they just leave while we're here and then come back, then nothing will have changed. They'll be back to raiding the roads in no time," Roshek answers.

[Kvard51]

"We need to finish what we came for.  Let us see what is at the top of these stairs."  Kevril tests the first step to see if it will hold his weight, then begins a careful ascent.

Huge Spider!
As soon as Kevril steps on the stair a huge wolf spider comes down from what remains of the upper part of the tower some 15 above. It comes down and bites at Kevril but misses. The mystery of what caused the bones in the debris is no longer a mystery. Fortunately the spiders bite missed Kevril and he doesn't have to learn first hand how a spider bite feels. The spider having lost it's surprise now leaves the group open to attack it as it hangs just above Kevril.
