Stepping into Joy's room, Ladonna finds it trashed. There are five additional figures in here. One of them has a young woman slung over his shoulder, tied up with a burlap bag over her head. They've already tied off a rope and dropped it out her window, and are preparing to climb down to the ground.

Unsure of what else to do, Ladonna starts chanting another spell, this time to use scare on the figures inside the room. The hope is that the one that is holding Joy, will let her go in his own fear of trying to save himself.

Ladonna casts her spell, but rather than make them drop the woman, it seems to just hasten their desire to leave. One in particular stands guard with a staff while the others all flee out the window, taking the woman with them, as they climb down the side of the manor.

"...Guards!" Ladonna cries out at the top of her lungs as she dashes out of the room. "Lady Joy is being kidnapped by the equalists! Guards!" Apparently her plan to do this on her own wasn't going to work, so she was going to wake the whole manor as she tries to make her way outside to hold them off.

As the shadowy figures escape, Ladonna runs back into the hall, calling for the guards. After a minute or so, a pair of guards finally arrive, weapons drawn and looking around cautiously. "What's going on?" one demands of her, making a valiant effort to keep his gaze on Ladonna's face, and not peek down at her nightgown instead.

"Equalists have kidnapped Lady Joy," Ladonna repeats. "They took her out her window, so you need to hurry."

The two guards kind of gawk at Ladonna, then to each other, as if they were both unsure they had even heard her right. After snapping out of it, they both rush past her, toward Joy's room.

"They are getting away!" Ladonna cries out incredulously. They didn't have time to go check the girl's room! As there really wasn't much else that she could do on her own, she decides it is time to go wake the Count to tell him of the bad news.

When Ladonna turns the corner to get to the count's room, she very nearly barrels into Joy herself, who is also turning the corner. Joy has her hair up, and is wearing a robe over her nightgown, and is carrying a silver tray with two cups of what appear to be hot tea on it. She blinks in surprise. "Ser Marche? Why...are you up at this hour?" she asks, confused and thrown off guard. "Was that you shouting earlier? What's going on?"

Ladonna stares at Joy as if she has grown a couple of heads. If the equalists didn't kidnap Joy, then who in the world did they just kidnap? They obviously had kidnapped someone. "Was there someone staying in your room?" she asks. "Actually, wait. I need to check on my lady," she says. "Excuse me." She realizes that she isn't standing on ceremony, but she nearly runs, despite her injury, to go check on Helen.

"What?" Joy asks, confused. "Helen's in my room. We were up late talking...I went to grab us some tea. I didn't want to wake any of the servants, so I told her to wait there..."

Ladonna runs both of her hands through her hair, and lets out a string of curses. "Equalists just kidnapped my lady then," she says with a frustrated sigh. "Thinking that she was you. That was why I was yelling for help."

"What? The Equalists? Oh no!" Joy cries, dropping the tray. The tea spills on the floor, but she doesn't seem to care. The two guards come rushing back, just as more arrive on the scene.
"Lady Solan, you are safe?" one asks, confused.
"I am. They took Lady Escott. Please, find her at once!"
"My lady!" the guard responds. He then sends one guard to fetch the count, another to get reinforcements, while the rest dash to the manor entrance in hopes of catching the kidnappers before they leave the castle grounds.
Once they are gone, Joy shakes her head. "This is all my fault. Oh, Ser Marche...what will those Equalists do with poor Helen when they realize she's not me? I've heard how much they hate nobles..."

"They might not believe that she isn't you," Ladonna says as she shows her the piece of paper that has her name and description on it. "Helen matches the description. Though, I don't believe they are going to hurt her," she admits thoughtfully. "Their goal is to probably ransom her for something. Whatever the case, I have to go after her. I was ordered to keep her safe and protected, so I have to go."

"Ser Marche, you can't," Joy says. "My father would never sanction it." She looks away, as if thought, then returns her gaze to Ladonna. Her eyes, once filled with worry and concern, have now steeled with resolve. "I will cover for you. Go, and do what you can. Please...I have grown very fond of Helen since she arrived here. We've become good friends. I'll never forgive myself if anything happens to her."
