Harikon gives Drezden a surprised look. "Wait, you know what this guy is? I took him for some kind of halfling, but even the halflings in the caravan swear they've never heard of a 'ken-dar' before. Of course, I don't understand half the words he says, either. 'Soth' or 'Sithicus' or whatever." He looks down at Kendrivel. "No, I wanted the bell so I could hear you coming." He shudders a bit. "Herding...makes it sound like there are dozens of you. Gods forbid. It's hard enough keep you out of the merchant's goods as it is. I imagine a whole herd of you people would be a nightmare." Drezden chuckles again "Perhaps you'd be more familiar with the term herding cats? Same general concept."

"Indeed. I've never heard of 'Kender' before either," Malavar agrees with Commander Harikon. "I had no idea you're such a learned man, Drezden."
"So...you're a man of the cloth then...Kendrivel? And where might you hail from?"

"Indeed. I've never heard of 'Kender' before either," Malavar agrees with Commander Harikon. "I had no idea you're such a learned man, Drezden."
"So...you're a man of the cloth then...Kendrivel? And where might you hail from?"
Kendrivel looks down at his leather armor and his leather pants and his leather boots... Uhh... what cloth? This is leather. Although i could see where you get confused because people wear cloth and animals wear leather, although i'm not an animal... well... to hear my old gran-dam say maybe i am, she was always comparing me to a herd of oliphants or a pack of wolves or my hair to a nest of rats... but I'm not really an ani-mule or any other kind of equestrian-based-anthropromorphic combination of bits... I'm... well just a Kender. he said, as if the last word explained it all perfectly with no further need for exposition.
When Malavar asks him where he is from, he gives the man an odd look, then looks to Harikon, then to the Dwarf (finally someone who knew about Kender) and then to the random guards. Finally turning back to Malavar he brightens. Maybe I just said it too quickly and you were distracted by my Heroic posing, he duplicates the stance taken earlier. Allow me to begin again! I am The Grand High Adventurer Kendrivel Thullen Farfegnugel Runt-runner Sothbane Lightfoot Tasslehoven Rochambeau Fangchipper the 5th (once removed); Hailing from beyond the Misty Veil of terrible-ness, from the doomed land of Sithicus, reigned over by his Sulfurous Dead-ness Lord Soth of the Smoldering Bottom... in Ravenloft.
Slightly winded, he takes another bite of the peppers before offering some of the un-bitten ones to the Dwarf who expressed interest in their culinary capacity.
=== I have a note to write as many run-on sentences as I can stomach each post... It is not easy, as my grammar reflexes keep kicking me.

Drezden "Never heard of no Ravenloft but Kender are very rare I've only tripped over maybe one or two in my time, including you. Sometimes I think Kender just fall from some other world and land here on Toril."

"An entire world of these...'kender' sounds like a place worse than the bottom layer of the Abyss," Harikon says. He seems more at ease now that he's determined the party aren't a threat. He gestures to his men, and they start slowly riding back to the caravan, the party following.

Once the group reaches the caravan, Harikon gives his remaining men the signal to stand down, and everyone seems to calm down a bit. Some of the merchants start readying their wares, in case the party wants to buy anything. "Where are you three heading, anyway?" he asks. "Looks like you're coming from Shadowdale."

To Kendrivel "A man of the cloth...you know, a priest, a preacher, a god-botherer?" Malavar tries again.
To Commander Harikon "We're headed towards Daggerdale," Malavar answers. "A private matter - I'm sure you understand, Commander? Now, where are the men who were in need of healing?"

Harikon holds up his hands to indicate he meant no offense. "Just making conversation," he assures the battleguard. He directs Malavar to his men. He has fifteen guards total. Four of them are moderately wounded, eleven of them are seriously wounded, and three of them are critically wounded. Harikon himself is only moderately wounded, but he is insistent he is fine, and won't accept any healing until his men are cared for first.

Kendrivel scrunches his face up at the commander when the man compares a world of Kender to the abyss. Rude! After a few seconds he thinks about it, Actually, Ravenloft is pretty terrible... some people consider that worse than the abyss... ok. You're off the hook for now... he adds his best sinister laugh for effect.
Kendrivel finally seems to understand what Malavar means, Ooohhh... one of thoooose... Yeah, sure! I'm a priest. The Great Trapspringer keeps me safe from the nasty hidden booby-traps and pitfalls of adventuring and stuff, ad helps me find the mpst Interesting things! Why just look what I found today! [Random pocket grab]
Sooo.. why do you call it a 'man of the cloth?' Do priests here all wear the same shirts? He examines Malavar's clothing. I mean... it's nice and all but it would be weird if everyone wore the exact. same. thing. all. the. time. and. also. talked. like. this. just. one. word. stop. and. go. day. and. night. to. and. fro. fore. and. aft. pickles. and. mustard. man. suddenly. hungry... [eats another pepper and offers the handfull to anyone around] Speaking around half-chewed peppers, Y'wan shum?

Drezden holds a hand up to the kender when offered the peppers "Nah save em for cookin' might add a nice kick to a stew."

Kendrivel pulls out a small stone from his pocket, that seems to have been enchanted to glow like a torch. One could only guess where he might have found such a thing.
"In any case, if you're going to Daggerdale, you should be on your guard," Haikon warns. "The Zhents control that whole area these days."

To Kendrivel "It's just an expression. Most priests wear robes and don't fight, so unlike a knight or a mercenary they're often spoken of as men of the cloth," Malavar answers patiently.
Who is this being? Is he joking with us? Uncle Trapspringer? He can't really be a priest, can he?
"Your...deity. Uncle Trapspringer? I must confess in my studies of the pantheons of Toril I have never come across the name before, nor have I hear of a land called Ravenloft. Would you perchance be a traveller from...another world? Toril is rich in portals to other planes. Did you perchance arrive here through one of those?"
To Commander Harikon "Your men look rather worse for the wear, Commander. Who - or what - have you been fighting?" Malavar inquires as he inspects the injured men. "I'm afraid I can only use the Foehammer's power on two of your worst wounded men. For the others I can suggest a treatment for when you find yourselves back in civilization. Did I hear you say you're headed to Shadowdale? You should have no trouble finding a cleric or a healer there to tend to your wounds."

Malavar casts one CLW each on the two worst wounded men. Everyone else gets a once over and a Healing check.

Drezden to Kendrivel "Yeah we are aware of their control, maybe that will change. I've been there once before, helped find out what was causing the sleeping illness. I mayb have some friends in that area still but wont know until I get closer."
