Chantilly SweettoothHP: 19/19 - AC: 16 - Perception: 15 - Insight: 11 - Inspiration: No Conditions: None Then turned around to Henry and took his hand: " Please don't be angry at him. He lost some of his friends last night, and he's letting his sorrow turning into anger. But we need to keep our strenght to fight against the people who did this.." she said as she glanced at the rubble surrounding them " ..not among ourselves."
Henry initially meets Chantilly's words with stony silence, smoldering rage in his gaze; then he sighs and relaxes a bit, cups the kender's hand in his own and nods approvingly "You are right; bursting into anger would only feed my own ego and I have a duty to the people, not to myself. You have my thanks, Chantilly."
--------------
Bowing to Lord Nighthill, Henry speaks with stiff formality "My compliments to you, my Lord. My name is Henry, squire to Sir Ontharr Frume; I was sent here to investigate rumors regarding dragon activity in the area. If you could provide these people with the informations they seek, that would greatly help me in my mission."

"I am sorry to hear that," Nighthill says. "We have confirmed that at least five villagers are also unaccounted for. Their bodies have not been found anywhere, so we can only assume they were taken. I dare not imagine what the raiders may have in mind for them."
Nighthill nods to Escobert, who accepts the five coins. Nighthill then says, "You are most generous, young lady. The town of Greenest thanks you. Every little bit will be needed to rebuild."
"Khuri-khan?" Nighthill repeats, a bit surprised. "You are a long way from home then. I welcome you to Solamnia, and to Greenest. I only wish your first impression was...under better circumstances. The old knight considers her formal request, before answering, "So long as your intent is to aid the people of Greenest, then yes, you have my approval."
"You are Frume's squire?" the governor asks, perking up a bit. "I know him well; a fellow Knight of the Rose, and a good friend. Please, offer him my warmest tidings when you next see him."

Zakkoth is used for make most women cringe at his sight and glares. He wasn't judging. The Bozak just has acknowleded the kender with a nod, as she didn't earned his respect. But as enemies, kenders were surprisingly destructive. So maybe if he has one on his side...
He sigh. 'Yes. I wonder though, if you might have a map, or a scout- something that will give us an idea to where the raiders might have camped.'

"I'm afraid all my remaining scouts are tasked with watching the perimeter of the town, in case another attack comes," explains Nighthill. "However, I do have an old map of Solamnia from back in the day." He digs around in several drawers of his desk, before pulling out a scroll and unfurling it. "Greenest is too small to show up, but it would be right about here." He points just under the second 'd' in Gaardlund, right next to the eastern border of Solamnia.

Eliana glances around for a moment before she grabs Caelin's hand and pulls him towards a building that will provide them a little bit more of privacy than the middle of the road. What was she supposed to say? Was there anything she could say? She didn't even know what to say, so she just looked at Caelin, not with pity, but with sympathy for what he was going through. Finally, she just decides to wrap him up in a tight hug. "What happened to Iro was not your fault," she says softly. "We all knew the risks, and while his death was..well I don't think there is a word to describe just how horrible it was, it happened while he was trying to protect people. Don't think you should have died. You very nearly did, and I don't think I would have handled that very well," she admits while she pulls away from the hug. Afterwards, she looks down at her hands, which she absently notes has more scales than she remembered.
"You know," she says as she rubs at one of her scales absently as if rubbing it would make it go away. "I'm not much different from Conard or Henry for that matter," she says. "I'm naive. I don't know what I'm doing. I didn't come here looking for glory or honor, but I was raised around people like Conard and Henry. Everyone is naive in the beginning, but there is a difference between Conard and Henry. Conard is infinitely more naive than Henry will ever be because Henry is a half elf and Conard is not," she explains. "None of us, including you, even though you have more knowledge than we do about the Children, aren't going to be prepared for what comes next. The most that any of us can do is to have each other's backs."
Eliana looks back up to Caelin finally, and smiles faintly to him as her heart goes out to him, for all that he has been through. She doesn't quite understand because she was raised in luxury. She has had it better than most people, so trying to grasp the horrors that Caelin has gone through is difficult. "You...you have a right to feel the way you feel when it comes to the Children, and I think you'll get your chance eventually. Now isn't that time though because you...we aren't ready yet."

Caelin Valaerys, pariah of TarkhisisHP: 18 of 18 | AC: 17 | Perception: 15 | Insight: 17 | Inspiration: 1 Conditions: None. Caelin was rigid as Eliana embraced him, however, as she spoke, something in him seemed to listen, to register her words. He softened, his breath caught as he allowed his defenses to drop, for a moment, and a wracking breath caught in his throat as he blinked the moisture from his eyes. He *wanted* to unburden himself, to speak of the one who had shown him kindness before Greenest, and how he had repaid that kindness, but he couldn't. Were she to know the truth, he would never have another moment like this, a moment where he could let go, where he could ... breath. As she released the embrace, she began to stare at her hands, where azure scales caught the afternoon light, he reached out, taking her hands in his. The blue reminded him of the great dragon in the night sky, a thought crossed his mind, a word, harsh, gutteral, Khellendros, could that be connected to these scales. As he pondered his calloused thumbs glided over the scales, marvelling at their texture. Suddenly realizing he was holding the lady's hand, he released them, awkwardly. "Only once in my life has someone shown me such kindness," his breath caught again, "I only hope that this time I can repay a kindness with a kindness."He looked away from his hands, back towards Eliana's soft eyes, "I am unable to trust," a pause, "to care, as easily or as openly as others, as yourself." He looked downwards, shuffled, awkwardly, "What I am, *who*, I am, makes it difficult for me to trust anyone, to rely on anyone, other than myself." A deep breath, "I won't promise, because I couldn't bear breaking a promise to you ..., but I will try, Eliana." Softer now, as a whisper, to himself, "I will try."

Eliana watched Caelin take her hands (any normal noble woman would probably flinch away, but she didn't) and study her scales. While he was marveling at their texture, she was surprised that people (two people at this point) found them fascinating. Serigo called them beautiful. What the dragon said to her, calling her Khellendros, suddenly popped into her head at about the time that Caelin released her hands. He wasn't the only one that was going through some things, but she wasn't quite sure how to talk about it just yet. "Trying is sometimes better than promising," she says gently as she reaches out, and gently wipes away what moisture is left under his eyes with her thumb. "We should get back to the rest of our group, you know, if you are feeling up to it."

"I will, my Lord." Henry places his hand over his heart, his voice solemn and respectful and with a hint of pride and admiration; then he eyes the map, clears his throat and tentatively says "Forgive my forwardness, my Lord, but would you be willing to part with this map? We are headed south-east in pursue of the attackers and having this map might greatly help us in our search."

Nighthill takes a moment to consider the request, then nods and furls the map back up, before handing it to Escobert, who in turn, brings it to Henry. "I have no real need for it these days, so I hope it will aid you on your journey," Nighthill says.

He started at the warmth of her hand at his face, ut as she rushed her thumb across his cheek, he slowly closed his eyes and exhaled. He hadn't let anyone this close, not since Jaehra, he shook his head, pushed that thought away. As Eliana spoke of rejoining the others, Caelin nodded, "You lead Eliana," a brief smile, "I don't know what I can say to the others, but you? ... thank you."{Out of Character Actions}OOC: I'm good to join the others at the keep and keep the scene going.

"You don't need to thank me," Eliana said warmly as she rook thr lead back to the keep. In her mind, she really didn't do all that much other than try to being some comfort to her troubled friend. "But," she adds, taking a moment to look over her shoulder to look at Caelin. "When you start feeling like this again," she says. She knew it would happen again. How could it not happen again? "Find me," she says. "If you can't find the words, but you know you need comfort, then just hug me. I'll know what it means." Eliana had to stop herself from laughing at herself, for giving this poor guy permission to hug her whenever he felt the need. Most guys would take advantage of such a thing, but she felt reasonably safe that Caelin wouldn't do that. "As for the others," she continues while turning back to look ahead. "A simple apology, I think, would be enough."
Once Eliana and Caelin reach, the keep, she searches for the group. "Ah, there you all are," she says. "I apologize for the wait. Have we learned any new information on Zakkoth's friend?" she asks.

Zakkoth to be honest with himself, wasn't sure his knowledge was relevant. He was a creature from other age. '....Thank you, Mayor.' he say crudly.
When the pair return he smirk a bit. 'I am hoping they didn't took him too far away. I am not too optimistic about his chances... but maybe using the map, we can track the nearest camp and learn something.' he pause. 'It is MY debt, and I am already indebted for you saving me... ' he say, open and close his claws with embarssement, his tail wrap around his legs. 'If you will help me, I will be doubly indebted to you two...' and look at the others. 'And for the rest of you indebted once. Wether an old draconian's debt is something worth having is up to you.' He look at the mercnary woman. 'I don't have much steel, but I am willing to pay.'

"Much obliged, Lord Nighthill." Henry bows with learned formality - it's quite clear he's no noble and that someone had to teach him how to conduct himself and the lack of elegance and grace shows itself "I bid you farewell, my Lord. Est Sularus Oth Mithas."
-----
The party is back together and Henry warily gazes Caelin, looking for any sign of further hostility; Zakkoth however distracts the squire that dismissively waves his hand "You won't be indebted to me, my bozak friend. As I said earlier, my duty is to the people - that includes your friend Leosin. Let's just say that the first round will be on you, once we get back from our mission." he then addresses the rest of the group "Before departing, I would appreciate if we could quickly browse the local market - maybe the good folk of Greenest have found something while stripping the raiders' bodies."

Caelin Valaerys, pariah of TarkhisisHP: 18 of 18 | AC: 17 | Perception: 15 | Insight: 17 | Inspiration: 1 Conditions: None. Caelin noted Henry's guarded stare, but he wasn't ready yet to entirely trust the man, so he ignored it and walked past the broad shouldered man towards Nighthill's chmber. He gave a bow of the head towards Escobert, then turned to regards Greenest's Lord. "Upon speaking with my companions, I've come to the realization that to fulfill the task you've laid out for us." He paused looking through the door to the antechamber beyond, "Zakkoth, Eliana and myself would have been able to follow the raider's and remain undetected, however, as our company grows, we will need to be more cautious, and a greater distance will lie between ourselves and our quarry. To that end I would humbly request the usage of Lord Nighthill's spying glass, the one used last eve, to allow us to observe the mill from the walls. Should such a rare possession be transfered, temporarily, to our possession, our company shall see it returned when we make our report on the location, composition, and intentions of the raiders and the cult."

"Providing that there are things to buy, I would like to buy some stuff as well," Eliana admits. "But first, I wish to speak to some of the survivors from the church," she says. "Perhaps we should meet somewhere when we are all done?"
