"I'm not sure any of my prayers will help at this distance, but I am here to heal if needed," Ravarie says.

"Healing will be appreciated, if it comes to battle," Serinda says. "But if you can throw around some fire or lightning at the enemy ship, that would be welcome, too."

Hunner nod 'Well, maybe if they got close enough, I could soften them with my arrows. Quite bold of them to get so near to Eastwatch. But maybe this battle, I'll regain my glory! I am ready!'

"Well, the Solamnics are better known for their cavalries than their navies," Serinda points out. "Damn, she's fast." The ship is quickly catching up to them, despite their best efforts. It's a very large ship, about 130 feet long and 20 feet wide, with three masts and well over a hundred oars. It looks almost twice as big as the Sevenstar.

The pirate ship continues to gain on the Elderwood, despite being so much larger, it has both sails and oars, whereas the Sevenstar only has sails. Every now and again, an arrow will fly out from the pirate ship and plunk into the water nearby. "They're calibrating," Serinda notes. After another ten minutes or so, the occasional arrow gets closer and closer, until one sinks into the mast with a 'thunk.' "We're in their range!" Serinda warns. "That means they're in ours! Archers, loose!"

Hunner retrieves his short bow, but has no arrows to fire. A young human next to him, freckled face and ginger haired, offers the knight one of his own to use. Hunner then looses the arrow skyward, as does the ginger lad and every other archer on board.
The cloud of arrows rain down on the enemy ship. Hunner isn't sure, but he suspects his arrow didn't even reach the ship, but plunked into the sea instead.
It's difficult to tell how much damage was done from this distance, but the pirates retaliate, and a dark cloud of arrows come flying toward the Sevenstar. "Take cover!" warns Serinda.
There are several screams of pain as the arrows strike. Many hit the nearby water or just thunk into the ship itself, but a number hit people. The ginger lad next to Hunner takes an arrow in the throat. He staggers backward, choking, then hits the railing and tumbles overboard, splashing into the dark sea below.
"They're moving in closer, cap'n!" warns Kronn.
"Good, then I can do some damage, myself," Serinda states. She begins to chant in the spidery, arcane language of magic. The air around her crackles with power, then forms into a bolt of lightning, which flies forward and blasts the pirate ship, starting a small fire--and wounding or killing several people, if the screams being heard from there can be believed.
================
Meanwhile, on the pirate ship, Kori sits in the brig, her wrists manacled to the wall. Something was going down. She heard people above deck yelling and moving around. Probably another attack. This seemed to be confirmed when she heard a loud thunderclap followed by multiple screams of pain.
Then she heard someone approaching. It was one of the officers, a male human named Volker. "Captain wants you on deck," he announces, fishing out his ring of keys to open her cell. "Enemy ship has a wizard. We need you to counter the magic they're throwing at us."

Kori perks up immediately. Once she heard the shouts and crashes of a battle, she had immediately begun composing a plan to convince the guards into letting her free and returning her spellbook and component pouch. Now, they're letting her free and (presumably) returning her spellbook and component pouch.
"I presume I'll be receiving my casting gear?" she asks, picking up Habbakuk and exiting the cell.

Hunner curse. He believe he has time for another single shoot, before it time to check his new sword. He wishper a prayer for the ginger boy. Was it for Takhisis, or Kir-Jolith?
He strain the shortbow once again. ----------------------

Ravarie starts praying to the Blue Phoniex, after she takes some cover, so she can bless the ship against this attack.

This time, Hunner's arrow does reach the ship, and thanks to Ravarie calling upon Habbakuk's blessing, he's pretty sure it hit someone, although it's not clear if it was a fatal wound or not. These human eyes were so inferior to his own; how did humans survive so long with such terrible eyesight?
The two ships close further, and the arrows stop flying. Rather, the pirates seem to be preparing to board.
==================
"Huh? Casting gear?" the pirate asked, confused. "You need gear to cast spells?"
He's a bright one, came Habbakuk's mental words into Kori's mind. Play your cards right, and you can probably get him to give you whatever you want.

"Why, of course!" Kori says. "I need my spellbook to read the casting instructions, my pouch of spell components to draw magic from the arcane fabric of reality, and my ring to channel it into a usable form! Don't you know anything about magic?!" Strictly speaking, she only needed the component pouch to cast Jump, but the Spellbook and Ring were much more irreplacable than the money, rations, and daggers she kept in her pack.

"Of course I knew that!" he objects. "I'm not some country rube!" Grumbling to himself, he opens a nearby locker and retrieves her book, ring and pouch and hands them to her. "Now let's get going, the captain's waiting."
