"'No' you didn't know them, or 'no' they aren't Ruaran? Or both?" Panola asks, not following. "I didn't know them, I'm afraid," Lillian clarifies.

"Just stay where it is protected, and hopefully things will be okay," Ladonna says.

"Oh, an orphan then?" Panola asks. "We have that in common then. I lost my parents to an ogre raid when I was very young."
"I'll keep that in mind," Liala says. "So once you reclaim the manor, do you think you might live there once you are done working for Lady Escott?"

"I haven't decided yet," Ladonna admits. "My father might though. If I end up getting married, then it is possible that I will probably live on his land."

"Oh, is his land nicer?" Liala asks.
Panola makes a dismissive gesture. "It's fine, don't worry about it. Like I said, I was just a kid. So it was a long time ago. What about you? How old were you when you lost your parents?"

"I've never been there," Ladonna says. "But, with him being the husband..." she trails off.

"Do you mean that between the two of you, his is the more prestigious family?" Liala asks, not understanding, having been raised in a culture where there is no patriarchy and thus, women are not expected to be submissive to their husbands. Rather, in Tardiff, which historically has been ruled by queens far more often than kings, whichever family has the higher prestige is the one who becomes leader of the new house.

"Well...I'd prefer not to talk about it, but..." Lillian trails off.

"Oh, sorry, I didn't mean to pry," Panola says.
"I am an orphan," Unakite interjects. "But Lillian is not. Her parents abandoned her in the woods."
Panola appears skeptical of that. "Why would they do that?"

"While we are the same title, he has been a knight longer than me," Ladonna admits. "And my reputation is still, well it isn't as bad as it was, but his is better," she explains. "The details haven't been worked out yet, to be honest. Father seems to be planning it all."

"I see," Liala says. "I'll ask him about it later then. I guess it's not too important right now, anyway, since you'll be working for Lady Escott for another year yet anyway."
Unakite thinks for a moment and says, "She is a changeling, but things went wrong. Her parents had too much feywine and lost her before the exchange, and then got lost themselves. They still roam the forests to this day."
Panola looks confused, then annoyed once she realizes she's being trolled. "Changelings are a myth. Elves have never stolen human children and swapped them for their own."

"Oh, are you sure? Elves get bored, too, you know," Lillian jokes.

"Why do you want to know so much about my upcoming marriage?" Ladonna asks curiously. "Ah, speaking of which, I'm hoping that I'll get a chance to meet someone that is taking care of the manor that might be suitable for you."
