Do any of you guys listen to much music? I've really been getting into popular "real" music this past year--before then, it was mostly Video Game and Anime tunes.
My favorite band is currently My Chemical Romance, though I also love Fall Out Boy, band-era Panic! at the Disco, and Green Day (Daos may remember them from the 90's). All very much "Teenager Music," though I like to imagine I'll still like them in a few years. Big fan of Nirvana, as well (also a band Daos may remember).
On the opposite spectrum from the punky stuff listed above, I also adore Pink Floyd and Queen, and ABBA, too. And a more recent band I love, I DONT KNOW HOW BUT THEY FOUND ME is a more obscure, but incredible band that makes 80's-esque synth-heavy pop-rock. And it's amazing.

Oh yes I listen to music quite a bit esp. at work. A large amount of what I listen too is music my father used to listen to (classic rock/metal) and stuff I listened too as a teenager. Though there are newer bands I do listen too as well. But I suppose some examples would be:
AC/DC, Metallica, Megadeath, Motley Crue, Guns n Roses, Poison, Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin, Motorhead, Alice Cooper, Def Leopard (all being music my dad listened to)
Avenged Sevenfold, Disturbed, Slipknot, Stone Sour, Mudvayne, Drowning Pool, Seether, Foo Fighters, Shinedown, Godsmack, Green Day, The Offspring (being stuff from my teen years and up)
Adelitas Way, Bad Wolves, Bobaflex, Bring Me The Horizon, Cage The Elephant, Devil Driver, Five Finger Death Punch, Fozzy, Ghost B.C. (examples of newer bands I didn't discover until age 25+)

Wow, pretty heavy stuff. I've never listened to anything more than some of Nirvana's crunchier stuff. (eg. "Milk It", "Endless, Nameless," "Territorial Pissings")

Oh I listen to a lot more lol those are just mostly the bands I listen to the most. I do listen to Nirvana, and some other "grunge", at the time that was what they called it, bands.
Like I do listen to The Wallflowers, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Stone Temple Pilots, The Smashing Pumpkins, Audioslave, Bush. To name some.

I don't think Grunge is a very descriptive term for genre. I do think of Nirvana as a punk band, really. But I have heard of those ones!

Hard Rock/ Heavy Metal, Punk, Alternative Rock pretty much describes about 95% of what I listen to. I used to listen to I think they called it Black Metal or Death Metal when I was younger but i tried listening to some of those bands again more recently and I just can't take it lol. Grunge is what they were calling a lot of the now or later in the early 2000's dubbed PUNK genre music.

You could say I listen to Punk and Alt-Rock, but as I said, I still love a lot of lighter stuff, like ABBA. In fact, my favorite album by Panic! at the Disco is the classic rock-inspired Pretty. Odd. And of course, the Progressive Rock of Pink Floyd is practically the opposite of Punk, but I love it, too.

Hey it's not much different than me listing all those harder bands to say I also listen to Big & Rich and used to listen to Brooks & Dunn (when I was a pre-teen). My mother was entirely into lighter music like Genesis, Phil Collins, Ringo Star, ABBA. To name a few.

Are My Chemical Romance and Fall Out Boy still considered 'teenage' music? My little sisters were big into them when they were teenagers, and that was like 20 years ago.
I was never much into music myself. I don't have a favorite band or artist. I listen to a bit of everything, I guess. The radio station I usually have on when I'm in my car is one that plays 'adult hits.' Much like sports, I don't know much about music. I can tell you if I like a song or not, but probably would not be able to identify who performed it, or even what genre it fits into.

My Chemical Romance and Fall Out Boy were popular when I was graduating high school back in 2001, so it is kind of funny that teens are finding them popular today too.
My music taste is kind of all over the place. I listened to (and still listen to) a lot of the bands that GreyWolf mentioned (The Offspring and Green Day are two of my favorites). I was a big fan of Linkin Park too. I also listened to pretty much every boy band there was in the 90's and early 2000's. Backstreet Boys and N'SYNC were my favorites. I even gave Hanson a try, but I think that was mostly because they were from my home state.
My two favorite songs of all time are from animated movies from the 80's. Somewhere Out There by Linda Ronstadt and James Ingram and If We Hold On Together by Diana Ross. The first song is from An American Tale and the second song is from the original Land Before Time.
I listen to a lot of music from the 60's and 70's too. My spotify play list ranges from 50's to the present along with Disney Soundtracks (I love to belt out my Disney songs), Video Game Music (mostly from Final Fantasy), anime music, and K-pop.
Since I'm currently taking Italian at the University of Washington, I've also looked up some Italian pop songs, and I've been curious to check out some operas since I know a little Italian now to see if I can understand what is going on.
I think the only thing that I'm not really big on is rap and country (but I still listen to a select few from each genre providing they really catch my attention).

I mean that it’s the sort of music, both stylistically and lyrically, that appeals to teenagers. They’re certainly not so mainstream with the kids, like they were back in the day, but I still adore them.

AH yes Horizons you mentioned one band I forgot Linkin Park, though I've not listened to a lot of their music since Chester passed away I listened to nothing but their music for like a week or so after his passing, then took a bit of a break from it, but there are certain days where the mood is right and the music fits. I also forgot to mention I used to listen to Limp Biscuit (sadly it is true, and I still ever so often play a couple of their songs).
But yes I do find it funny that music from my teenage years graduating year like Horizons was 2001. Is still being listened to by teens now. What's more surprising is when they can't believe I know the band and listen to their music too. (Yeah sorry it's not new it came out when I was a teen.)

As I said, it's because the music appeals to teenagers in general, rather than the people that were teenagers when it came out. Honestly, I have the similar problem, in that I think of it all as very new. Which, to be fair, it's new to me. But still, in my mind (as far as music goes), 5 years ago is "brand new" and 10 is "pretty new." Actually, I really think of everything before the 80s and 90s as "classic." So you have the "classic bands" (Queen, Pink Floyd, Sex Pistols, ABBA, the Beatles) and the "modern bands" (Green Day, Nirvana, My Chemical Romance--even though they're older than me).
Speaking of the Beatles, I used to really think of them as overrated, before I listened to Abbey Road yesterday. I kinda got the picture, then.

After Chester passed, I kind of lost touch with Linkin Park. Though, as far as I know, they haven't made any new music since his passing. I was super sad about his passing because Linkin Park, no matter my age, always had some sort of appeal to me.
I've always had an appreciation for older bands, but I think that is mostly because my mom and dad listened to that stuff. My mom and dad were sixteen years apart in age, so I sort of had a generational gap when it came to music growing up. My mom listened to music from the 1960's and up. My dad listened to music from the 1940's and up.
I think my appreciation grew for older music because I was in band in high school too. We didn't just play classical music (even though we did play a lot of it). Since I was in marching band, we had to find music that would be entertaining for half time. I think our most successful football season was the year we played swing music. We had a James Bond theme one year, and we even marched to Chicago.
