Would the Healing proficency be useful in this situation? It says it could be used to diagnose poisons and diseases, but I'm not sure if it works on corpses (or if it's just passed too much time).

Similarly, would my Herbalism proficiency be useful in this case?

I feel like Diagnostics would be better suited, as it actually contains a paragraph about identifying what killed a person. Healing is more for the living.
But that's all we have to work with. I'll say you can make a Healing check to try and determine if he died of disease or poison (only injected in a wound; if you have Herbalism, that expands to swallowed or touched poisons, as well), but you'll have to make it at half skill. So if your normal Healing skill is 10 or under, you'll need to roll 5 or under to pass.
My reasoning is that the best way to identify poisons and diseases is by judging a patient's symptoms, but as he's dead, he has none. Plus, he's already been cleaned up, cut open, etc., so there's a lot less evidence to go by.
I'd say Herbalism is only useful in that it expands Healing in this case. An Herbalism check, by itself, wouldn't do anything.

Nice dice rolling we are having, guys! Let's hope to keep it this way until the end of the autopsy.

Daos. Do we have a rough idea of how easily available magic is in this setting for the powerful? I'm not talking about petty or common magic, but powerful spells. The question arises because no one has entertained the thought that he may have been killed by a death spell despite being the scion of a rather powerful noble family (how powerful in the hierarchy of nobility we do not yet know and that's a future goal I'd say).

Generally speaking, magic is pretty rare in Lost Souls. High level stuff, like Wish and Resurrection, are practically shrouded in myth and legend. Despite their prominence among PCs, maybe 1-2% of the general population are actually spellcasters of any kind (wizards, priests, bards, etc.). Meaning in a city of 10,000, you'd maybe find 150 spellcasters total.
That said, Maliaka City and Daemon in general have a heavy fiend population, so that might skew the numbers a bit.
So for instance, using your example of Death Spell (6th level wizard spell). You'd need to be 12th level minimum to cast it. Malaika City has a population of 370,000. So about 18,500 of those people have class levels of some kind, about 1,850 of those are wizards, and maybe 1-2 at best are high enough level to cast that spell. So that would narrow it down considerably. (Of course, that doesn't take into account magical items, spell scrolls, etc.). But that's assuming the spell was cast by a mortal. If you include the fiends, those numbers are probably much higher.

Thank you for helping me to put the situation in perspective, I think it will help us to potentially follow the death by magic trail.
How could we trace the names of the most powerful non-fiend spellcasters in the city in character? To get a list of first potential suspects, however unlikely they may be to have kill Edword.

I'd say it depends. If you are searching for powerful wizards, you're best bet is Blacktower Academy. It's essentially a school of wizardry here in the Academic Sector.
If you are looking for a powerful priest, there are a number of temples in the city, but the Bountiful Harvest Church, also found in the Academic Sector, is considered the 'central' church, at least as far as Renosians go. So they'd have the best idea of who the most powerful clergy would be.

Things were moving pretty well there for awhile, then everything slowed down considerably. I just wanted to check in and make sure everything's okay.
Also, Marvoch hasn't posted in a week. I guess I'll need to start NPCing his character until he returns, as per the forum rules.

Everything’s fine on my end. I’m just a college student, you know. My school does quarters instead of semesters, so last week was finals season.

Ah, that's right. It is that time of year again, isn't it? I guess when one has been out of school for 20 years, one tends to forget. Hopefully you did well on your exams.
