It is Bludsin 2nd, 316 at 10 AM. One would expect it to be cold in winter, but cold has no place on the sunny tropical islands of Octhania. Even now, it's a warm 80 F/27 C and there isn't a cloud in the sky. It is summer all year round in this part of the world. The Tiaru is currently northwest from the island of Vaneil, on its way to Hashadeth to resupply after a week at sea. There hasn't been too much pirate activity in this area for the past few months, so the ship hasn't seen much battle in awhile. Probably the most exciting thing was when a dwarf was fished out of the sea. Currently, breakfast is being served in the mess hall, so the crew that is not currently on rowing duty head down there now to grab a bite. The smell of sweet plantain hash & eggs wafts through the mess hall and there is a low murmur of background noise from the many sailors speaking with each other, as well as the clattering of cutlery from plates and utensils. The place is packed, but there is one table left with just enough seats for the party to sit after they collect their food.

Mathias is standing on the starboard side of the Tiaru, leaning against the railing and looking out towards his homeland in the distance. Varneil. Barely a month had passed since he'd left its shores, but it already felt like a lifetime. A heavy sigh escapes his lips as he remembers his clan, and all the family and friends he'd left behind on the island. Now there was no telling when he'd see them again -- despite how close it was, he could never return to Varneil without that scheming Picardian captain in custody...the one who'd thrown him overboard the Swan's Song.
He stretched, attempting to ease the stiffness in his legs. Mathias had always been an early riser...he'd been awake for several hours now, and had aimlessly paced the Tiaru's deck for most of that time. It was still unclear what the crew of this Blue Lightning ship would do with him, although he'd been aboard a week now. Maybe he could talk Julak into offering him a position on his crew...at least until he managed to track down some leads on that scurrilous League of Freedom spy.
The sound of several pairs of footsteps nearby jostled him from his musings. His eyes went upward towards the sky: breakfast time. That must be the crewmen, on their way to the mess hall for their grub. Mathias gave Varneil one last, longing look, then turned to join them.
The chap on serving duty handed him a colorful, delicious-smelling plate of food, and he surveyed the room for an empty seat. They were scarce; these sailors certainly didn't waste time filing in when it came time to fill their bellies. Mathias couldn't blame them. The Tiaru's cook was far more talented than any he'd come across aboard Guild vessels.
His eyes finally settle upon an unoccupied table at the far end of the mess hall. That's probably for the best; most of the crew seem a little uneasy around the 'G-Man', as they've started calling him. Mathias makes his way to the empty table, seats himself, and begins digging into his meal.

Jaeron was walking around the deck when he noticed Mathias staring off into the distance from the starboard railing when before he could approach the dwarf the rest of the crew headed for the mess hall and the dwarf joined the march. So too the gnome namely hated by most of the crew let out a sigh of submission and headed for the mess hall himself the food was good but the gnome was starting to get sick of it, remembering some of the food back home his mouth starts to water and he had to stop himself thinking of it. By that time he already had his food and was looking at a lone almost empty table so far only Mathias was sitting at it so the gnome smiled and headed towards the table avoiding whatever table Divex was sitting at, the man was the meanest crew member to the gnome. Looking at his food he was thankful nobody spit in it this time from the looks of it. Walking to the table and taking a seat facing Mathias, Jaeron smiles and sets down his food "Good morning Mathias, and how are you this fine morning?"

Kalana wakes up late, but that is normal thing for the young woman. Getting out of bed is always an ordeal, but she has always managed to do so. Today is much of the same, so she isn't surprised when she saunters into the mess hall to see the hall full of sailors eating as fast as they can. She walks past her game group purposing knocking her hip against Acel's back and then ruffling Enzo's hair as she walks by. "I'll remember you guys not saving me a seat this morning," she teases.
After collecting her plate of delicious looking food, Kalana boldly joins Mathias and Jaeron at the only empty table in the mess hall. She slides right in next to Jaeron, and smiles across the table to Mathias as she settles herself. "Good morning," she says cheerfully. "It seems I'm not the only late start this morning, which is surprising because I'm always last at meal time."

Rising to see the sun rise, Arieal positions herself on the aftcastle, and closes her eyes. She meditates as she feels the slight rocking motion of the ship. As she feels the warmth of the sun on her skin, she opens her eyes. She pauses a bit, soaking in the warmth before sending a shrill whistle into the air. She looks around before holding a finger in the air. Shortly a small white bird alights on her out stretched finger. She pulls it in close to her face enjoying the moment before quickly raising her hand and coaxing the tern into the air. Ready to face the day, she turns and climbs down the stairs to the main deck.
As the last few stragglers pile into the mess hall, she follows, finally taking a plate of food and heading over to the 'adventures table', those not expected to row or really help with ship operations. As she approaches she can 't help but overhear Kalana's comment.
"Good Morn" she says in her light whispering voice before taking a seat. "You, nor I is last today. Which is fair, the men working need their sssustenanccce firssst." She begins picking at her food. Picking around the meat, she mixes the vegetables with bits of eggs and savoring every bite.

As Senllip is familiar with the Tiaru schedule, being on board for four years now, and as he is always hungry (although he doesn't each much in a meal, but constantly eats), Senllip is already at the mess hall even before it was open, "helping" with the cooking. He didn't bother the cook as he did actually helped and was a good company to have. Since the time the hall was open for the crew he stands near the chap serving the food, greets almost every crew person with some cheerful comments, constantly tastes the food and helps a bit with the serving. Seeing Mathias and Jaeron comes together he comments, "Hello! Lovely morning, isn't it? How is your first week aboard? Like it?" without waiting for a real answer he nods smiling and changes his focus to the new comers. Minutes later he greets Kalana asking her about her joyful sleep and with Arieal he comments of the benefits of the fresh air. As they whole group finds a place at a table he excuses himself from the serving point with a small heap of anything eatable he could grab and joins the others. "Hi again. What do you think of the food? Tasty huh.. I like it. Colorful spices."

"Mornin', you two," Mathias says as Jaeron and Kalana join him at the table. "I suppose we'll see how 'good' it turns out to be."
He turns his attention back to his food, but no sooner has his fork skewered its first bit of food than Arieal and Senllip arrive. He says nothing as the pair seat themselves and greet the table, but studies Senllip intently for a handful of seconds before once more resuming his breakfast.
"It's alright," he says finally in response to the chipper halfling's question, after enough time had passed that it seemed certain Mathias was ignoring the inquiry entirely. "Better than drownin', I suppose."

Jaeron consumes the eggs but doesn't touche the hash "Anyone want my hash?" the gnome asks. "Every day you awaken is a good day Mathias, at least that is my humble opinion and yes I'm quite glad you are not drowned. That'd be a fate I'd not wish anyone to experience."

Kalana gives Senllip a nod of greeting before muttering off some generic answer to his question. "You are really by passing the hash?" Kalana asks Jaeron in surprise. "This is probably one of the best meals that we have had in awhile, so I would enjoy it if I were you. Though, if you really don't want it, then I'll take it," she adds with a shrug. She looks to Arieal, then laughs lightly at her comment about how the men needed their food first. "They don't need it first. Most of them are just greedy bastards," she says playfully.

Jaeron "Most of them don't care much for me so I'd rather not offer it to them for fear of offending them. I'd much rather share it with one of you. I honestly never liked hash I like the eggs and usually I'd have toasted bread or some sort of fruit or pastry back home. I suppose even after six months I just can't tamper my stomach to liking hash." the gnome says rather matter of factly in all honesty to the group at his table knowing full well they had to have seen or experienced the treatment most of the crew gives non-elven folk and especially one who worships a counter opposite god to them.

"They don't need it first. Most of them are just greedy bastards," she says playfully. Upon hearing this comment, a hearty guffaw escapes Mathias' mouth as he's mid-chew. A couple small bits of egg are ejected by this, embedding themselves in his beard. Jaeron "Most of them don't care much for me so I'd rather not offer it to them for fear of offending them. I'd much rather share it with one of you." "Bah!" Mathias interjects. "I wouldn't pay 'em no heed, if I were you. I get much the same treatment from most around here, but I been aboard scarcely a week, while I recall you've been here quite a bit longer. If they haven't warmed up to ya by now, I reckon ya won't be makin' friends of 'em no matter what ya do. So fuck 'em!" He takes a few more bites of his food, then looks up at Kalana and says, chuckling, "Ain't ya worried what it'll do to your reputation, bein' seen sittin' down with a Gontoite and a Guildsman?"

Jaeron chuckles "You mean seen sitting with G-Man and the Archivist." using the referenced nicknames the dwarf and gnome have acquired while onboard. "Frankly the only two members of the crew that treat me with any true kindness are the captain and Varil. However I guess six months is not long enough to prove I'm not the buzzkill that the crew suspects of one who is a Gontoite. Folks appear to forget I carry the pistol and musket for more than looks. I'm not just a mere cleric, truly what I do is more a historian, but I have been trained to fight. Perhaps if we encounter pirates I might be able to prove my worth."
