Daos scratches at his goatee as he thinks this over. "So this human might possibly be manipulating the Lun-Chu for his own reasons. He must be terribly charismatic then. Or is perhaps employing magic of some kind to sway them."

Bayla shrugs. "It explains why the Lun-Chu acting out of character."
"According to the goblins the Lun-Chu had a human with guards. Guards. That's not an orc concept. An orc leader unable to defend themselves is unfit to be a leader. So I thought he must have been a prisoner. Apparently not."

"As far as I know, spells of mental control don't last particularly long, so it's unlikely he has all the Lun-Chu controlled at once," Melvin adds. "Of course, he could just be repeatedly casting some spell on one of the higher-ups." As he says this, the Kobold tries to sneak into the forest; Night Dagger throws a dagger at a tree next to him in response, and he shrieks and falls to the floor.

"What do you plan to do, now that you've escaped them?" asks Daos once the kobold stops shrieking.

Since the kobolds is obviously a non-threat, Bayla leans casually against the heft of her axe rather than wield it menacingly. She lets Daos do the talking - the half-elf seems to have a knack for it.

The kobold shrugs his shoulders. “Find some work with another orc tribe, probably. Not really much else for us ‘uncivilized brutes’ to do.”

Daos nods. "Then go in peace."

The kobold nods and (quietly) scampers away.

Daos will resume his watch, should the others wish to return to sleep.

Bayla grunts in acknowledgement and disappointment - the problem had been solved entirely without resort to her axe - then goes back to sleep. She'll be taking the middle watch and needs to get what rest she can.

Daos continues his watch for the next hour, and then Bayla and Melvin take their watches, without any disturbances.

When morning arrives, Daos wakes up, prepares his spells (same as before), and prepares to set off. "Hopefully we can still catch up with them, and they haven't hired any more mercs to stand in our way."

Bayla makes sure her travelling companions get some food in them from the rations she grabbed from town - marching on an empty belly was awful, she knew from experience - then inventories whatever is left. She's not worried about going hungry, but wants an idea when she's going to have to start feeding the trio off the land rather than from a pack.

Daos accepts the shared food gratefully, and makes an effort to not at any point ask where it came from. It was probably better if he didn't know.

Melvin wordlessly accepts and eats the rations, avoiding eye contact with either of his companions. After several more minutes of walking, however, he blocks both of you, pulls you behind a nearby rock and points at an Orc guard napping in front of a cave entrance.
