"They are called koalinth. A species of aquatic hobgoblins, or so the scholars say. I've never met one before in the flesh, but according to seafarers' tales they are much like their land-living kin in disposition. I'm quite surprised we got out of there without a fight, to be honest. I had hoped that might indicate that these ones were of a different bent, but if the cave is the source of the corruption and they're living there, then I imagine cold steel will end up as our only option. If that's the case, I shall need to rest and heal more before venturing down there again. My wounds are still fresh...as the salt water is now reminding me," Dorias says with a grimace. "Unless...perhaps if we could find a way to lure them out while one or two of us scout the cave? Ravarie, does the Blue Phoenix have any blessings you could cast underwater that might serve as lure?"

"If I might offer a suggestion, we have powerful clerics in House Cleric and mages in House Mystic down in Silvamori that could be of great use here," Sorrith says. "Perhaps we could find one there willing to lend their magicks to this cause. They might be able to bestow upon us the ability to speak or fight underwater."

"I don't think I have anything that will lure them out," Ravarie says. "I might be able to spy through a fish though, providing we can catch one and convince it to go into that cave."

Sorrith
"It's a way to Silvamori from here, friend Sorrith," Dorias reminds the elf. "Going there will definitely mean leaving our business here unfinished, and who knows what state Varvil will be in when we return. But, if we have no other choice..." he trails off.
Ravarie "That may be our best option in the short run," Dorias answers. "Come to think of it, I have a spell that can produce sounds, that might be used to get the koalinth to send scouts of their own to investigate. Of course, I can only cast it above water, so we would need to borrow a boat, row to a spot above the cave, and hope for the best. But it your fish could scout for us first, and we could plan from there..."

"Silvamori far, but Zhea Harbor really close," Reeker points out. "Might find help there."
"Regardless, it's not like this village will collapse into itself if we leave," Lalora adds. "Even if saving it were our responsibility, and it's not, they can hunt again, so they won't starve if we depart for awhile."

"I say we continue on to Zhea Harbor," Ravarie says. "I can send a true cleric here to help out the village when we get there."

Dorias turns away from his companions to gaze out over the sea, considering their options. Finally, he replies. "Very well, it seems we have no decent course of action left to us here. Let's continue on to Zhea Harbor. I shall speak to my uncle about the situation in Varvil and what can be done about it. But before we go, I shall report our findings to Glarou. Like it or not, he is the lord here...for now, at least."

"If that is what you want to do," Ravarie says. "But I don't think he is going to care too much either way."

With that decided, the party again heads up to the lord's manor, turn over their weapons to the guards, and are escorted inside to the audience chamber. This time, Glarou sits alone, his wife's throne empty. Trying to look as imposing as he can, Glarou sits up straight and looks down at the party as they enter. "Is it done then?" he asks.

Ravarie remains quiet as this is Dorias' thing. She doesn't like this man, and that is very clear from the look on her face.

Grognak also stays quiet, resisting the urge to growl at Glarou.

"No, Lord Glarou, it is not done. We discovered a cave out in the harbour, inhabited by koalinth - a species of underwater hobgoblin - that is probably the source of the corruption afflicting the fish around here. We would have been at a severe disadvantage if it had come to blows, so we retreated back to shore. Our intent is now to leave Varvil and head to Zhea Harbour, where we will seek the means to deal with this menace once and for all. However, should you wish to do so yourself, using your own resources, you are more than welcome to do so."

Glarou harrumphs. "I suspect I'll never see you again, but that's fine by me. Varvil will deal with its own problems then." He waves the party off, dismissing them from his home.

Dorias gives Glarou an overly florid bow, disguising the smirk on his face at the lord's claim, then leads the group from the manor.
"I should like to spend another night at the inn if it's all the same to the rest of you. Stomping around beneath the waves was quite tiring and my bandages will need changing. Also, I should like to let someone other than Glarou know what we found. The innkeeper seems a solid enough sort," he muses once they're all outside and away from the guards.

"I'm okay with that," Ravarie says with a nod.
