Eliana falls back in place with the civilians. "Don't spend too much time searching them," she calls out to Zakkoth. "We still have a little ways to go until we reach the keep, and there is sure to be more enemies ahead of us along with that dragon which is looming around here somewhere."

Caelin Valaerys, pariah of TarkhisisHP: 10 of 10 | AC: 15 | Perception: 15 | Insight: 17 | Inspiration: 0Conditions: None.Caelin nodded in agreement as Eliana spoke, "If you insist on searching, check the Baaz's robes, though the Children are not likely to be carrying written missives." He looked towards the Keep, "We must keep moving, and quickly!" As he moves forward towards the intersection of the buildings, he nods his thanks to Iro and his companions before moving to the lead once again. {Out of Character Mechanics}OOC: Moving forward, perhaps not so much this time, I will try to stay 60' ahead of the group. It looks like we need to cross through a section of town still before we make the hill up towards the keep. Is there any commotion occuring at it's main gates? A siege or larger assault force perhaps?

"Aren't you intrested to know WHO are they?" Zakkoth ask as he searched.

Thanking Zakkoth for his healing, the Kagonesti returns to the civilian group and falls back in line. Sparing a smile and an encouraging word to the children - See, little ones, nothing will harm you while we protect you - Ironwood once again calls on the ambient magic in all things to enhance his senses as they travel.

Perceval gathers up his javelins and dropped pack, and Iro dismisses the entangle spell so Zakkoth has an easier time searching the bodies. He doesn't find much on them. Aside from their weapons and armor, the only other thing they are carrying that would be of interest is that each of them holds a broach or pendant with the five headed dragon emblem on it--the old sigil of Takhisis. The raiders had also collected a small pile of valuables they had looted from the town, which includes some coin, jewelry, silverware and anything else they saw that looked shiny.
Caelin takes the lead again, scouting ahead toward the keep. It looks like, at least for now, the raiders are far more interested in looting and pillaging the town to care about the keep. It is likely only a matter of time before this changes, though.
At Iro's words, one of the children--the oldest one, the young girl of around 12 or so--asks, "But what if the dragon finds us?" As if in answer to her question, there's another roar and a blast of thunder to the west. It sounds like the dragon is getting closer, but not with any particular haste.

"We already know they are members of the Children of Takhsis," Eliana points out to the draconian companion. She makes a mental note, that if they managed to get out of this situation, to ask Caelin more about this group of people since he seems to know who they are. Though, she looks to the older girl , and looks about ready to reply to her when she hears the dragon roar. She winces as her hidden scales ache, but she keeps pressing forward.

The old Kagonesti smiles grimly at the girl's question as the dragon roars nearby. If the dragon finds us, lass, we will make sure it chokes.

Caelin Valaerys, pariah of TarkhisisHP: 10 of 10 | AC: 15 | Perception: 15 | Insight: 17 | Inspiration: 0Conditions: None.Caelin kept low moving up the hill, checking over his shoulder to ensure the group hadn't drawn the attention of the roving raiding parties, however, as he moved his attention back to the keep he hunched his shoulders, hugging the ground. The sound of the dragon's roar, echoing from somewhere above him made him suddenly feel as though he were but a mouse, and the shadow of an owl soared overhead. Once he was sure that the path to the main gate was clear, he quickly circled back around finding Conard and Perceval, "Keep's there, we need to move quickly. However, the guards will likely react to either of you better than I." With a flourish he produced the knives loaned to him and handed them to the larger man with a nod of the head, "I thank you for the loan of your steel, they served well."{Out of Character Actions}OOC: Once within sight of the Keep, Caelin will go a quick Perception check to make sure the way is clear and then return to the group. Caelin scouts ahead of the group. He can see at the top of the hill, the way seems clear, and the keep's gate is even still open. However, there is a hitch. He sees a group of villagers to the west, using the path up the hill to reach the keep. And right on their tails are another black robed figure and four more kobolds.

Zakkoth went to follow the group, lost in thoughts. "Children Of Takhisis." But Takhisis was.. dead. Just a memory. Wasn't she?

I will turn their pursuers back to the north, that will be the time to strike." He tucked the borrowed steel back into his belt, before pressing Brina's crossbow into the larger man's calloused hands. With that Caelin sprinted off after the pursuing force, circling around behind them. Once a goodly distance from his companions, he called out to the dragonwrought and their commander, "Dominate through fear and grind to dust those who oppose you!" He thrust his hand from his chest, palm forward, fingers spread, "They are cowed, their trail marked in urine and feces!" He looked over his shoulder to the north, praying his companions had circled towards the keep, "A patrol has been slain at the Inn, mercenaries, soldiers, adventurers," his hissed, "Mistress Mondath commands you to return there and deal with the situation. We go. Now!"{Out of Character Actions}OOC: Sprinting to circle behind the pursuing raiders, speaking in Draconic. Initiative, if required, 1d20+9= 27;t77qTkl91d20+9. Ironwood watches Caelin sprint off, shaking his head at the impulsiveness of youth. He would get himself killed going off on his own. The lone wolf starves while the pack survives he thinks to himself as he ushers the civilians towards the keep. Seeing their path free to the gate, he turns and runs back towards the remaining group of smallfolk, raising his staff in a warding gesture to the kobolds and their dark-robed commander. As soon as he judges the distance right, Ironwood once again levers his staff upwards, causing the earth around the pursuing kobolds to erupt in tangling vines and roots. {Mechanics}Ironwood will hold his Entangle spell until the kobolds are *just* in range, targetting the spell so the maximum number of creatures is caught (20x20 foot (4x4 grid) square) while the civilians are outside of its range (90 feet)

Conard Marpique, 1st lvl RangerAC: 13 | HP's: 11 of 11 | Passive Perception: 10 | Natural Explorer: Grasslands | Favored Enemy: Dragons | Position of Privilege Conditions: None. "Run!" Conard yells at the group, "Get inside!" Turning towards the approaching patrol and the second group of townsfolk, Conard raises his shield rushing forward with a cry of "My honor is life!" {Actions} 30 ft. move and assuming that's not enough to reach, but hoping that leaves Conard somewhere prominent, taking the Dodge Action.
I'm thinking this is at least half a bluff charge, trying to make the kobolds think there are better pickings elsewhere.

The robed figure and the kobolds stop short at Caelin's shouting, and turn back toward him. It's not clear if they believe him or not, but it turns moot when Iro once again summons vines and other greenery from the ground to trap and ensnare them. All of them are caught up in the vines, and struggle to move. This gives the fleeing villagers a chance to make it into the keep's gate, and gives the party an opportunity to usher in their own group, as well. ============== Iro casts Entangle. ---- Black Robed Figure makes a STR save [DC 13] (1d20): 10, fail.
