Caelin Valaerys, pariah of TarkhisisHP: 18 of 18 | AC: 15 | Perception: 15 | Insight: 17 | Inspiration: 0 Conditions: None.Caelin quickly realized none of his companions shared his concerns, so he began to piler the kitchen, gathering and mixing the supplies he needed. Lard & soot to make a weapon black, which he applied to his bone-white hair, his face in broad, irregular bands, he then began to smear the concoction over the blades of his daggers, and his broad bladed knife. He found a small flask, and filled it with water from the cistern, and then cut several broad strips of cloth from an abandoned apron, the first he soaked in water, and tied around his nose and mouth. Spotting a pile of offal and innards from the day's butchering, the other two he soaked in pig's blood, and once sufficiently reddened, he tied them around his right elbow, and his left knee. In dealings with the raiders, it would do well to feign injury, and play them false. He then moved towards the dungeon, where Escobert had instructed them meet. As he sped down the hallways to meet his allies, he swung the baaz's heavy thickspun cloak over his shoulders, securing it with the buckles of his leather jerkin. Once there, he saw that Conard and Perceval were speaking in hushed tones at the fore of the group, he reached into a sconce and drew a torch from the tunnel's wall before preceeding to speak with the two men. As he moved by the group, he laid a gentle hand against the small of the Kagonesti's back, "Master Ironwood, if you would accompany me to the front, our best eyes should lead us through the dark."Crouched low, his feet moving carefully on the slick flag stones he spoke in hushed tones, "Master Ironwood and I should lead our allies through the dark, move low and quiet, keep a knife handy," he looked to Perceval, "that blade will serve you little use other than an ill-timed thrust in these tight quarters. When we see the night sky, I will extinguish the torch and we will move by moon's light."

Ironwood "Iro" of the Cragpine Vale -- Kagonesti Lorekeeper (Circle of the Land [Mountain] Druid) -- Level 2 AC: 13 | HP: 13/13 | Passive Perception: 13 | Conditions: Inspiration | Spell Slots: Level 1 (1/3) | Wild Shape: 2/2 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ironwood waits patiently as the way is cleared, unable to be of much help due to his missing arm, but once the tunnel is revealed the Kagonesti steps to the front and raises his hand, summoning a soft green flame.
By the light of Zivilyn we will see our way through this tunnel. If we encounter either the moon's or stars' light, we will no longer have need. But Caelin has the right of it, those who cannot see well in the dark would do well to stay behind those who can. Mine own eyes work well in the dim, but this flame will help those whose do not.

Eliana wrinkles her nose at the sight of the unused tunnel, and even bats away at some low hanging spiderwebs as she follows after the rest of the group. "I hope we don't have to trudge our way through this tunnel for too long," she says, clearly disgusted. She makes sure that she is somewhere in the middle of the group, to make sure that she is protected from whatever they might face.

Caelin takes the lead, with Iro right behind him. The old Kagonesti holds a small ball of flame in his hand, which illuminates the tunnel but does not seem to burn him at all. Conard goes in next, followed by Perceval, Eliana, Garald, Brina and finally Zakkoth. Using the torch he took, Caelin burns away the webbing in the way. The tunnel has clearly not been used in many years. Were it not for the torch light and Iro's flame, it would be pitch black. It's also dank and has a smell of mold to it. After traveling a few yards, a cacophony of squeaks can be heard ahead. Two swarms of rats, having noticed the sudden bright light, are now moving straight toward Caelin. ===================== InitiativeRat Swarm 01 (1d20): 9 oyPBdKlC1d20Rat Swarm 02 (1d20): 7 1d20Brina (1d20+1): 14+1 = 15 1d20(OOC: Remember, you can move through an ally's space, but it counts as difficult terrain and you cannot end your turn on a space already occupied by someone else. The carnage overhead probably had them stirred up, seeing the massive patch of chattering, skittering shadows, he knew they couldn't be chased off by a single torch. He knew he needed to make space for Conard and Perceval, who were both better equipped to have a wave of biting, scratching rodents wash over them than the others. But how?!? He sprinted forward, angling his momentum to carry him towards the wall, before he reached the rats, he leapt into the air, letting his speed slam him into the tunnel. He twisted, taking the impact on his shoulder, and tucking his legs, as speed and gravity dragged him back towards the rats he pushed off to the opposite side of the tunnel, landing in a low crouch while swinging futiley at the swarm of rats. {Out of Character Actions}OOC: Initiative check, 1d20+9= ;TvZo8Ysj1d20+9. Eliana begins chanting as she did in the previous battles. Thankfully, being in a single file line like this isn't going to be a problem for her, like it would be the fighters. Though, as she doesn't know what they are going to face once they get out of this tunnel, she decides it is best to save some of her actual spells for later. Once again, a spectral hand appears near the first swarm of rats in which Eliana instructs by using her own hand to reach out and grab as many rats within the swarm as possible. {Combat} Itp07wqk1d20+3 Initiative 1d20+6 Spell Attack 1d8 DMG 1d20·1d20+6·1d8

Caelin is the first to act, darting forward with lightning speed. Just as he's about to reach the first swarm, he attempts to parkour off the tunnel wall to land behind the rats. He doesn't quite make it, though, and winds up landing right in the midst of the second swarm. He stabs one of the rats with his short sword, ending its life with a squeak. The rats all start biting at him from all directions, but his armor and his quick reflexes keeps him from taking any serious bites. Meanwhile, the others all focus on the first swarm. Iro hurls a ball of flame at them. Then Perceval shoves his way past Conard and the old elf to reach them, but comes up short. Zakkoth conjures flame from his heart to burn them further, and Brina cries out in disgust, "Rats, eww!" And despite it just being words, it does seem to disrupt the swarm. Because as it moves up to Perceval to bite him, they seem to lose focus and just kind of nibble at his boots helplessly. Perceval smashes one with his hammer, then Conard moves up and skewers another with his spear. Finally, Eliana grabs one with her necrotic hand, draining the life from it. By this point, the first swarm is starting to scatter, hoping to escape to the east. ============== InitiativeCaelin: 17 Iro: 17 Perceval: 17 Brina: 15 Zakkoth: 11 Rat Swarm 01: 9 Conard: 8 Rat Swarm 02: 7 Eliana: 4 Round 1!Caelin moves 10 feet east, performs an Acrobatics check [DC 15] (1d20+6): 7+6 = 13, partial success. Caelin Valaerys, pariah of TarkhisisHP: 18 of 18 | AC: 15 | Perception: 15 | Insight: 17 | Inspiration: 0 Conditions: None.Caelin took a deep breath, the moisture along the tunnel wall had unbalanced him and now he found himself, unbalanced in the midst of the rat pack. The foul creatures crawling up his back, his legs, his shoulders, he fought to maintain his composure. To control his fear, concentrate on the immediate threat, he was uninjured, he shook himself flinging the creatures from him, taking a low stance, flinging his arms out, his blades flashing, forcing the scavengers to give him breadth and attempt to find easier prey. {Out of CHaracter Actions}OOC: Caelin will forgo an Attack, and take the Dodge action, forcing any attacker to take Disadvantage on their attack rolls. Then, trusting in his agility, he will attempt to stand up using his Move action. If this provokes, hopefully the Dodge action will mitigate the attack. Either way we will see.

Conard Marpique, 2nd lvl RangerAC: 17 | HP's: 18 of 18 | Passive Perception: 10 | Natural Explorer: Grasslands | Favored Enemy: Dragons | Position of Privilege Conditions: None. Conard curses under his breath. If the passage weren't so narrow the vermin would be no danger at all. They probably wouldn't even feel threatened enough to be hostile. He considers rapping his spear against his shield and using the noise to drive the scurrying hordes away, but that would defeat the objective just a soundly as if the party were to be devoured by the rats. We are already risking enough with the lights."Give ground, Master Elf," Conard says. "Stay back and drive the beasts away with your spells, give them somewhere to run. I will keep them off you." {Mechanics}As described in the OoC thread, Conard will move 10 ft. back down the hallway, leaving a space for Iro to occupy behind him, and ready his action to shove a swarm if it attempts to enter his square.
