"Do you think it may be possible to still track them down? Do you remember anything at all about them?" Panola asks.

Lillian almost scoffs. "No, I remember nothing--and have little interest in reuniting, besides."

"You're not the least bit curious?" Panola asks.

"Nope."

"I have to admit, never in my life have I ever met someone so completely lacking in curiosity toward their own past," Panola says, shaking her head. "You could be a lost princess, for all you know."

"Do Elves have Princesses?" Lillian wonders, without the slightest trace of curiosity for her own past.

"The Ruarans do. Do you really know nothing about the royal family?" Panola asks, mouth agape in shock. She shakes her head. "You really have been completely assimilated into the culture that stole you from your home, and you seem oddly proud of it? I am starting to think the Midnight Bandit was right about you."
Jonas coughs. "Well, why shouldn't she be proud? Tardish culture is far superior to Ruaran. Lillian is wise to be grateful to the Tardish people for taking her in. Otherwise, she'd be dancing around naked in the woods like a savage, or whatever it is Ruarans do."
Panola looks like she's about to grab Jonas by the throat, but amazingly she remains still and simply glares at him darkly.

"I AM PROUD OF NOTHING," Lillian snaps, before calming herself. "Panola, if you wish to learn more of Ruaran culture, I have nothing but respect for that goal. It is not one I wish to achieve, personally, but allow me to support you in any way I can. But you, sir," she says to Jonas. "Are completely out of order."

"Me? I know quite a bit about Ruaran culture already," Panola says.
"What?" Jonas asks defensively. "I'm agreeing with you! We're on the same side here."

"Great, that's great, Panola, I'm...I'm not being very eloquent for a bard, am I?" she laughs darkly. "But Jonas? You are not agreeing with me, you are agreeing with what you wrongly believe I am saying. And I suppose I misunderstood what Panola was talking about, as well. I thought she was talking about my parents, who abandoned me at a few days old, who I hold nothing but spite and contempt for. And Tardish culture is in no way superior to Ruaran. Merely different. And it can't be denied that the predominant culture in this nation is one of distrust for non-humans--something Finbul and I mean to change."
She sighs deeply. "...sorry. Being misunderstood...irritates me."

Panola says, "But how sure are you that your parents abandoned you? You can't possibly remember that, if you were that young. Is that what the warlock told you? As I said before, it is not our people's way to abandon children for any reason. Isn't it far more likely he kidnapped you, then just told you that you were abandoned to discourage you from ever seeking out your parents? I mean, based on what you've said about him so far, I doubt he's terribly honest."
Jonas just shakes his head. "You intend to change our culture? Our way of life dating back hundreds of years? And just how exactly are you going to do that?" he asks.

Lillian opens her mouth, then closes it. "I...well, I suppose I'm not certain. Thank you, Panola--I hadn't thought about it that way before. But as Jonas implied, inciting cultural change will take a lot of effort--I will keep that my goal for now."
To Jonas specifically, "At its most basic, I must convince the people of Tardiff that their way of life is wrong--which is quite a thing to get someone to accept. Especially because the Equalists believe the same thing, but tend to give that standpoint a bad reputation with their banditry. But I think that we will be able to unite the marginalized people of Tardiff, and make our voices loud enough the Human government must listen."

Jonas frowns. "That sounds dangerously close to a revolution," he says.

"Rest assured, it will never come to that," Norris assures him.
"What makes you say that?" Jonas asks.
"To change the nation in such a way as she describes would take a person of great ambition," Norris answers. "I do not believe she has it in her to even attempt something like that."
"The path to change is easy," Unakite, still invisible, responds. "Chaos. Create enough chaos, and things will never be the same again."
