Giunona reads with disgust through the scroll: "I don't know if this could come in useful, although I have really no intention to appease to Myrkul in the foreseeable future."

After being done with the barracks, she goes to the storage next to check among the robes if there is something of interest there.

Giunona sighs deeply: "It seems we've only the altar room left, I doubt the room with the well or the cells hold much information."

She enters the shrine once again, filled with dread, especially after having read the scroll with its profane content.
"Let's check the niches here with those small statues out first, and remember to avoid the altar and that symbol for now."

The ten foot tall statues, although terrifying, reveal little upon a closer look.  As far as Giunona can tell, the only purpose they serve is to add to the dark and foreboding ambience of the shrine.

Giunona, getting frustrated unfruitful investigation after the other, turns toward the two taller statues on the sides of the altar.

"It's our only chance left before we have to get close to that cursed altar, let's hope we find something."

The group splits up and investigate each of the statues flanking the altar.  However, nothing is discovered.  They are just statues, as far as anyone can tell.

With everything investigated but the altar, Giunona gives it a look without getting too close, to check for traps (like slabs to avoid, or something similar).

It's hard to gauge from a distance, but she doesn't see any pressure plates or anything like that.  The two skulls in the front, though, give her pause.  They appear to be trapped should anyone touch them.  The skulls in the back she cannot see from here, not without getting closer.

"When we get close to the altar, beware of those skulls in the front. I think I recognized some sort of mechanism there, saw one of those in another temple in ruins. It was all the rage among evil cults, it seems."

She then sighs, as she pulls out the scroll they found earlier from her bag. As she reads the procedures described there, she turns to Nicholas: "Nick what do you think? I don't really feel comfortable offering my respect to a rotten God like Myrkul, but I don't want my pride to cause our fall at the hand of some crazy trap. What would you do?"

"I'm not sure I follow," Nicholas says.  "Are you saying that we have to perform these rites or it will trigger some kind of hidden trap on the altar?  I thought you said only the skulls were trapped."

"The skulls are indeed, but I don't know if they're the only part of the altar that's trapped. To be honest, I would be surprised if it is this way. There is still that necrotic aura I saw earlier that I would prefer to avoid at all cost."

"Then perhaps this vile altar should be destroyed," Captain Miles offers.  "That is what I would do."

Giunona rises her finger and almost say something, just for her to stop. "That's... Probably a good idea actually. We still need to get close to it to do so though."

What material is the altar made of?

The altar appears to be made of stone.

"Odd, though, isn't it?" Terence wonders aloud.  "Someone went through the trouble of destroying all of the furniture, even simple beds and dressers.  But they left this altar completely intact."

Ok, I'll admit it, I'm metagaming... The scroll is the only thing we found, it has to have some sort of significance ahahah but I wanted an opinion by my fellow cleric ;_;
