"I wonder, Amodeo, what you hope to accomplish with all these silly hypotheticals," Lillian says, glaring at the man. His words pointed to blackmail, but he already had more money and power than either of them could offer, and they were already doing a job for him. She isn't sure what else he could want. "Why, pray tell, do you want to meet an Equalist?"

"Why do you think?" Amodeo asks. "Come now, we are all on the same side here. We all want the same things, I think. There is no further need to be coy about it."

"That you'd want to help or join them, for whatever reason," Lillian says. "Perhaps you're a believer in the cause, or it's just in your best interests to destabilize Tardiff."

"Now, now, why would that be in my best interest now?" Amodeo asks casually, taking another sip of his wine.

"What makes you think we are on the same side?" Ladonna asks curiously. She isn't nearly as hostile sound as Lillian is at this point. If anything, she seems slightly amused.

"Aren't we?" Amodeo asks. "You said yourself you want better things for Tardiff. You admit the queen is leading your nation down a bad path, yes? My people don't want to see Tardiff shut down its borders anymore than you do."

Lillian reassesses the situation, then smiles. "Well, then, Barone. Let's say we're on the same side. That we both want to change Tardiff for the better. Where do the Equalists come in?"

"Well, as I understand it, these Equalists are trying to do just that, make Tardiff a better place, is that not so?" Amodeo asks.

"Yes, that's accurate. And you think they could be allies?" Lillian asks cautiously.

"Wait," Ladonna says. "What the Equalists want isn't necessarily what is best for Tardiff," she says. "We know their vague goals, but what is the plan if they achieve their goals?" She asks. "With Tardiff on the unstable side, other countries are going to try to take advantage of that for the good of their country, not for Tardiff."

"If not allies, at least a useful catspaw," Amodeo answers Lillian. He then looks to Ladonna. "And you think that is a bad thing? Imagine how much better things would be here if say, just as an example, Calabria was in charge instead of your queen."

Lillian rolls her eyes. "Oh, don't listen to Ser Marche; she's just jealous the Equalists made a fool of her. Consider me...intrigued, at least. Something to talk about, when we've cleared up this Jherek business?"

"Well, this is all hypothetical, of course," Amodeo says, leaning forward. "But let's say that a foreign power was interested in liberating Tardiff from its tyrannical queen. And let's also say it's best chance would be to take Hart. It's a defensible fortress in the very heart of Tardiff, and would make an excellent foothold. If any of this were true, then anyone on the inside who was willing to cooperate would likely be very richly rewarded after the regime change. Titles, wealth, whatever they desire, really."

Ladonna glances to Lillian, then shakes her head. "I suspect that Jherek actually plays a part in this plan," she says. "But of we happen to jump on board, then why would you need to find him?"

"Oh, we wouldn't," Amodeo says. "Or rather, we can just say we found him. I would be happy to send the count word of how helpful you both were in the endeavor."
