I used Vicious Mockery, not Dissonant Whispers…

Ah, that's right, you posted in the OOC thread. I had forgotten that, so I just NPC'd you, because I couldn't find any posts on the IC thread.
My bad.

Alright I went in and edited the post, so Abelaard cast Vicious Mockery instead of Dissonant Whispers. So he gets his 1st level spell slot back.
However, this changed the outcome of things. Baaz 01 is still alive and Baaz 02 did not temporarily flee.

Is a maul a polearm? I notice it doesn't have the 'reach' tag.

Is a maul a polearm? I notice it doesn't have the 'reach' tag. It is not. It is a two-handed weapon.

Is a maul a polearm? I notice it doesn't have the 'reach' tag. Oh, darn! I had made up my mind to pick a polearm when I created Gordon, but I guess I got confused because my mental image of a maul was similar to one...whoops! OK, I'll change this attack to a Hand Axe, instead. Luckily, it missed, so no harm done. (Literally!)

It might be for the best. If we assume you'll be fighting lots of baaz over the course of this game (and that's a fair assumption to make, I think), then having a heavy bludgeoning weapon will definitely come in handy.

We're just waiting on one more person. To keep things moving, I'll go ahead and update tomorrow regardless.

Just realized that they kind of nerfed draconians in this version. They no longer have magic resistance. Instead, they seem to have damage resistance to the element corresponding with their ancestry, even though nothing in the lore supports this, and apparently brass dragons breathe fire now? It's sort of funny, because in the books there is a scene where Raistlin casts Sleep on some Baaz and they just shake it off. I guess that's no longer canonical. Anyway, good job! According to a CR calculator I found online, six level 1 PCs against two CR 2 creatures is considered a deadly encounter, but only one person went down and woke up on his own, so I guess CR is a bunch of nonsense.

What did Brass Dragons breath back in the day?

In 1E, they could breathe both sleep gas or fear gas. In 2E, it was sleep gas or 'a cloud of blistering desert heat.'
Looking it up, it appears they started breathing fire in 3E, officially.
