I presume that this matriarch society is just the women have the say on what happens rather than subservient men obeying every last whim, or is it even women have power at the top but elsewhere is relatively even?
I wasn't thinking anything exciting about a backstory, just lived within the church system, roaming around with others in execution of their deeds. Becoming familiar with the world but losing the edge of strictness in acceptance of reality in people's faith having variation too.

It's complicated. In many ways, it's sort of an inverse of our own society. Women hold most of the power, but there's no law that prevents men from being in power, per se. They face a great deal more scrutiny and are held to unfair standards, though. The Elonnori faith teaches that men almost destroyed the world, and this is sort of our second chance with women in charge, who are more temperamental and wise; men being seen as foolhardy and reckless. That said, there are some men with power--the ruler the party works for, Supervisor Crane, is male.
The society is matriarchal, though, so in noble families, women tend to be heirs while men are married off for political alliances. People's family names are passed from the mother, not the father. Most priests and druids are women, and the few that are men tend not to rise very high in the ranks, due to a glass ceiling.
Of course, I'm speaking in general terms. It sort of depends on region. The Cascadians tend to be more progressive, the Inlanders more conservative. The Cult of the Vengeful Mother is hardcore about it, believing men shouldn't have any power at all.
Your idea for a backstory is pretty similar to April's (Gravity's character), so maybe the two know each other in some way? Perhaps they attended the same grove (temple) or something like that?

I have no issues falling into any of these categories and equally being but a lowly worker of the church. Makes sense for a low level character right?
It may be nice that were aware of each other, but maybe not full knowledge or friendship, but if gravity would rather prior knowledge and such I'm happy to run with that too.

Oh, I'm fine with either. Whatever works for you!

Okay, I'll let you two hash out the details, whether your characters were friends, rivals, cousins, or whatever.
In the meantime, I'm hoping to finish up the stat block by tonight.

So, Mathol, how did your character wind up in the grove? April was born and raised there, the daughter of one of the paladins. She's socially awkward and mostly kept to herself, talking to squirrels or listening to music.

I had a couple of questions MaltholLoth . Going through the character sheet, and maybe I just missed it, but I can't find the character's background. Is it Acolyte? Second, for language, on this setting, there are no racial languages or Common tongue. So I assume Common will be replaced by Cascadian, assuming the character is Cascadian. But what did you want to swap for Elven? Here is a list of languages from this thread: LanguagesRacial languages (Elven, Dwarven, etc.) do not exist in this setting. Rather, each culture has its own language. There is also no Common tongue, either. Local LanguagesCascadian Inlander Kanatan Siyouan Foreign LanguagesGullfolk Ravenite Celestian Piercer Snakefolk Yutan Exotic LanguagesAbyssal Aquan Auran Celestial Draconic Druidic Ignan Infernal Sylvan Terran Ancient LanguagesEonian

I was thinking a similar line, though more passed to the grove rather than born there. So though a family, more distant and such, hence maybe the not belonging so much, and more open to questioning faith?
And yes acolyte. I'm happy to go with the 2 most common ones for the region, though there is a temptation at celestial given the race.

Sure, but Sylvan might be more helpful. I anticipate the presence of a few Fey in this campaign…
What form would Telani’s questioning faith take, by the way? April has a similar, but it’s doubt in the the church and whether they truly understand Elonna’s will than doubting Elonna herself.

Celestial and Sylvan is fine. We can swap Common with Cascadian, so that just leaves Elven that needs to be replaced.

Hmm though sylvan seems sensible, so long as the party is not split, one of us (or Starbuck) would have to be acting as relay for the others. Taking celestial gives another language to the group. So I'll go for that.
As to the questioning, it's more from seeing people understand it in their own way, so who is to say one is more correct over the other.

Alright, so we'll swap Common for Cascadian, and keep Sylvan and Celestial. What replaces Elvish then?

Kanatan? Sorry, for some reason I thought I only had 2 languages so the celestial was relaxing the elven.

They have four; they get Common (replaced by Cascadian) and Celestial as an Aasimar. Then they get two free ones for Acolyte.
Kanatan works, I'll add it in.

Okay, stat block is more or less ready, I just need a few more things:
What is your character's gender, alignment and birthday?
For their biography, I need Appearance (what they look like; hair, skin, eye color, how they dress, height and weight, etc.), Personality, and then their History.
Then we can brainstorm how to fit them into the game.
