"Worry? What, should we be worried if the Equalists succeed?" Lillian asks. Ladonna, probably, but her, too?

"You tell me, both of you seem pretty committed to the belief that the Equalists are doomed to fail no matter what they do," Amara answers. "Either they centralize and get wiped out like the Revolutionaries or remain de-centralized and never succeed. That is the point you two are trying to make here, isn't it?"

"There should be some cause for concern," Ladonna admits. "If they do manage to succeed, with their disorganized cells, meaning they somehow take out the leadership we have set up here in Gontoria, they don't have any sort of leadership at all," she explains. "This place would be chaos without any type of leadership."

"The idea is to have elections, and let the people decide on their leaders," Amara says.

Lillian shakes her head. "No, not exactly. I'm just thinking of the problems they'll face. These are issues the Equalists will need to address if they have any hope of creating a lasting, stable government in Tardiff." She decides to not press too hard on other obstacles--it seems to be annoying Amara. "That's a good idea, having elections. It'll give people the feeling of agency--that they aren't having the Equalists' morals imposed on them."

"Nobody ever said revolution was easy. And there is no perfect plan. If you wait for a perfect plan, you'll never act," Amara says. "Sometimes trying and failing is more important than doing nothing at all."

"Yes, that makes sense. Even in defeat, you show that there are people who are unsatisfied with the status quo, and you provide inspiration for revolutions to come." After a pause, she adds, "That's why the church covered up the Revolutionaries, I suppose."

"What exactly is the plan for getting rid of all the nobles then?" Ladonna asks curiously. "Once those elections come around, if they are still alive, they will run for whatever office is being elected."

"I mean, personally I'm all for employing the guillotine," Amara says cheekily. "But honestly, if we get to that point, as long as the people are choosing their leaders, it doesn't matter."

"Even if the people that the people are choosing aren't any better than what they have now?" Ladonna asks.

"Then we'd be right back where we started--but with the power still in the hands of the people, not the institutions," Lillian responds.

"Yeah, we might still get bad leaders, but at least they'll be bad leaders that the people chose, instead of them being born into the role," Amara agrees.

"Other than giving the people the ability to choose, that doesn't seem like a better situation," Ladonna admits. "But I'm not an Equalists, so what do I know?"

"Well, you're a knight, so I can see how the idea of people choosing their own leaders is alien to you," Amara says snidely. "Especially if you stop and ask yourself, would your own serfs vote for you if they had a choice?"

"The difference is that I'm not of a noble blood," Ladonna says. "And of course they wouldn't vote for me," she points out. "At least, not right now that is," she adds thoughtfully. "And it isn't that the concept is alien to me. I understand the concept of the people choosing their leaders." It wasn't a hard concept to follow. "My point is that collectively, the people, are kind of stupid. With the right words, a little bit of charm and notoriety, it would be easy to hoodwink a collective of people into believing that you are the best person for the job."
