"The coffee probably tastes like coral," April remarks as they step onto the Fey Eye. "Wasn't there a song about falling in love on a highway, or something like that?" she says to Gurt.

"Wouldn't the coffer taste the same?" Kalinda asks.

"I think she was joking..." - she says with a grin, although with April she wasn't really sure.
"So, Starbuck, what do you enjoy in life, beside coffee?"

"Maybe," Gurt answers. "I try not to listen to other people's music too much. Helps keep my own art original."
"Oh, I have many and varied interests," Starbuck assures Poppy. "Like history. Did you know that coffee dates back to the Ancient Ones? Nobody knows how they discovered it, but it must have been a vital part of their lives. I also know a bit about agriculture. For instance, did you know that it takes about 37 gallons of water to grow the coffee beans needed to produce one cup of coffee? Isn't that fascinating?"

Poppy let out an exasperated giggle. She was a lost cause, but since they had to travel together she could try and make it bearable: "Yeah, those are some interesting tidbits you got there. You got any advice for someone like me who is not really into coffee? Maybe I just didn't find the right brew yet... Top three best places to get coffee in Salt Whales: go!"

“…no it doesn’t!” April says to Gurt. “That just means that every song you write will sound exactly the same, if you never find new influences to draw from!”

"Not into coffee?" Starbuck repeats incredulously. "Why in the world not? It's the greatest substance in the world. It has some amazing properties. It can restore energy, heal injury, maybe even raise the dead, I bet. There's this old legend of a special kind of bean known as the ambrosia coffee bean. If I could get my hands on it and brew a special coffee from it, I bet I could...I dunno...bring about world peace or something! Anyway, I honestly think the coffee I brew is the best in Salt Whale, but I haven't been everywhere in Salt Whale, so I can't say that for complete sure. The Siren's Song is pretty good, of course, but I think it loses something in being mass produced. There were quite a few smaller cafes in Si'ahl, but they all went out of business after Siren's Song took over. But they were pretty good back in the day," she rambles on.
Gurt looks a little annoyed. "I've created an entirely new genre of music," he points out. "I don't see how anyone can say my music sounds the same."

"Awww that's so sad." - Poppy comments about the closed business, although her interest was now taken by the ambrosia coffee. - "But I'd like to try your coffee sometimes, maybe it'll change my mind! What about this ambrosia coffee bean? I never heard of it!"

“It doesn’t sound the SAME as anything, but that’s because it sounds LIKE a lot of different things,” April says, rather exasperated. “Like the music in Green River Valley, and traditional pixie music, and a few very famous bards I can think of.”

Kalinda looks between the two different conversations. "You seem oddly passionate about music," she says to April.

"Well, not oddly," April says. "Listening to popular music was the only rebellious thing I did, growing up in the Grove. I liked listening to it and learning about its history. So I picked up a lot about the creative process."

"It's shrouded in myth and legend," Starbuck continues. "I've tried to learn everything I can about it. There are many tales of the elusive ambrosia coffee bean, and many of them contradict each other. But I'm certain it exists. Some say it was first created by the Ancient Ones, a final gift to the world to make amends for their crimes. Others say it was grown by the Great Coffee Spirit, called forth by Elonna herself to make the world a better place for all. I haven't found any solid leads yet, but one day I'm sure it's my destiny to find it and make a cup of brew from it!"
Gurt snorts. "It's easy to talk about it. Actually creating is another thing altogether. Everyone's a critic, though, I guess." Shaking his head, he picks up his pace to get away from April, clearly annoyed.

“I think your music is great! I just don’t like your attitude towards composing!” April calls out at Gurt.

"Listening to popular music is considered rebellious?" Kalinda asks. That seemed to be news to her. Though, she watches as Gurt speeds up. While she didn't know a lot about music, she did agree that other musical artists, or artists in general tended to draw inspiration from somewhere. "If you don't listen to other people's music too much, how did you get into music in the first place?" she asks Gurt curiously.

"Well, not that rebellious. Some of the Druids and Priests at the grove didn't approve of popular music," April explains. "But I thought it was very interesting, so I listened to it every chance I got."
