"That'll be our biggest threat getting there," Pisces agrees. "The Ravenites regularly patrol the Saltish Sea. Last time we ran into one of their warships. Fortunately, we were able to get away, but it was no easy feat."
April and Kalinda
"It is possible," Blitz agrees. "But from what my parents have told me, there are many Elonnori who have fully converted, and would likely betray us if we took them into our confidence. It will be difficult to know who we can trust."
Poppy
"I am unsure," Mizzle admits. "I had never seen a Ravenite until their raid on the garden. I gather many Elonnori hold them in contempt after many bloody battles and raids over the centuries, but I hold no such animosity toward them."

The rest of the day passes without problem. The party does their best to get used to the movement of the ship, and eventually settle in for the night. The following day is much the same as this one, as the ship sails out of the Quilsha Sound and into the Saltish Sea proper. The party spots a pod of dolphins, which the crew consider good luck for things to come.
The day after that, it begins to lightly drizzle. Most of the crew find this annoying, but are undaunted by it. Mizzle seems enthused, however, and spends most of the day on the deck with her hood down.
The day after that is Vacuumvoid 10th, and Pisces announces that they should reach Maplewood that evening. The rain picks up and becomes much heavier. The waters become rockier, but still nothing the Tideway and her crew can't handle. Nevertheless, some time in the afternoon, Pisces summons the party to the deck. "Got bad news," he tells them, peering through his coral spyglass. "We are so close, I actually thought we were going to make it without a problem," he admits. "No such luck. There's a Ravenite scout ship out there. It's on a rendezvous course. Not a warship, at least. But still...it's best not to underestimate the Ravenites." He lowers his spyglass and turns to the party. "Any of you have an idea how to deal with them?"

"Traders...with no cargo?" asks Pisces, a bit skeptically. “Or board and kill them before they know what’s going on,” April suggests, also lamely. "You can do that?" asks Pisces, surprised. "If you think you can pull that off, by all means. But my crew are just sailors, not warriors, so you'll be on your own there." "We should tell them we're slavers!" - Poppy suggests, honestly in kinda of a cool and energetic way. "That's...ugh...as distasteful as that sounds, they might buy that," Pisces says. "I've heard stories of pirates who raid coastal gardens and sell anyone they capture to the Ravenites. They find Elonnori women exotic and uh...enjoy breaking their spirits," he adds uncomfortably. "Assuming you four," he says to Kalinda, April, Poppy, and Mizzle, "don't mind pretending to be...cargo." |
