Appearance: Amala is an attractive young woman with short cropped brown hair and startlingly bright blue eyes. Light freckles dot the bridge of her nose. She is quite muscular, having spent a great deal of her youth exercising and training. She has fair skin that tans and freckles easily when she's out in the sun for a lengthy period of time.
Amala prefers to wear lighter colors of blues and greens. She wears a suit of heavy plate mail that is quite old but well cared for. It is the armor of a Knight of the Crown and once belonged to her father. Upon the chest is an emblem of a blue phoenix with a golden crown over its head. Her shield has a green sword emblem that is encircled by a similar golden crown.
At her side is her Green Blade, a magical sword (which has a green blade, as the name implies) that has been passed down throughout her family for generations. It belonged to her father, but now has fallen to her. There are ancient dwarven runes carved along the blade that glow with a soft light when its powers are active.
Personality: Amala is a strong woman, both physically and of spirit. She dislikes it when people assume she is weak or helpless because she is a woman. She also disdains any woman who actually does fit this stereotype.
Despite her constant attempts to prove she is 'one of the guys,' deep down Amala does have a hidden feminine side. There is a softness and compassion to her that is only shown in private and to close friends. It's difficult for her to reveal this side of herself, though, as she's afraid people will take advantage of her.
As a result of all of this, Amala is somewhat at a lost when it comes to attracting a man. She doesn't know how to flirt, how to wear a dress, nor can she cook or clean. She has secretly harbored a crush on Daos for years now, but is completely unable to express it to him.
Amala is fiercely devoted to the Code and the Measure of the Knighthood, even though she is not a knight herself. She is honest, honorable, courageous, and virtuous. She is also incredibly loyal to anyone who treats her as an equal.
Combat: Amala is an excellent warrior on the battlefield, and prefers to fight with a sword and shield. However, when possible, she is also trained in mounted combat and will fight on horseback. She tends to try and protect the weaker party members from danger when possible.
Amala always fights honorably. She will not strike an opponent from behind, nor will she fight someone who is too weak to defend themselves.
History: The daughter of Angriff Greenblade and Ilys Greenblade, Amala was raised in Castle Greenblade in Solamnia. The Greenblade Family had been Knights of Solamnia for generations, but as Amala was a woman, she was instead taught how to be a proper noble lady.
When she was 8 years old in 335 AC, peasants from Avrinet rose up against Castle Greentblade, and Angriff ordered Soren Vardis to smuggle Ilys and Amala out of the castle while he and his knights stayed behind to defend it.
However, along the way to Solace they were ambushed by bandits. Amala, being small, managed to hide behind a tree in the darkness during the fighting. Her mother and bodyguard were slain and the bandits took everything of value. After they departed, Amala gathered up her resolve, bit back her tears, and started off to Solace alone.
After finally arriving, she practically collapsed from hunger, thirst, and exposure. The girl was found by Daos Soulstaff, a young half-elven sorcerer who had been on the outskirts of town looking for some solitude. Not knowing what to do with her, he carried her back to Gimak's forge, knowing that Gimak's elven friend Arvin was skilled with healing herbs.
When she came to, she was surprised to find herself sitting in a small hut, surrounded by a dwarf, elf, and half-elf. She explained her story, and how she was an orphan now and had nowhere to go. Taking pity on her, Gimak agreed to let her stay with him as his 'apprentice.'
As the years passed, Amala grew strong working the forge, but she never became very good at it. This was despite Gimak's best efforts to teach her. "No imagination," the old dwarf would often grumble under his breath.
Amala was much more interested in swordplay anyway. She had grown up a 'young lady' but after spending several years living with a couple of men, she started to eschew her more feminine traits. She picked up on the basics of combat quickly, so out of boredom Gimak began teaching her that instead.
Gimak and Arvin had been on several adventures by this point, so the dwarf had lots of interesting stories to tell (and Arvin was always there to point out the embellishments and outright lies). Amala was fascinated by these stories. Overtime, stories of adventure and the old gods that Gimak was taught about caught the interest of other children in Solace--Barlemus, Marcus, Kendra, Marik, and even Daos.
When she was old enough, she began going with Gimak on some adventures, along with her friends. This group of adventurers, who came to be known as the Companions, split up in 346, as the various groups departed to undertake various tasks. They agreed to meet again five years hence, at the Inn of the Last Home.
Amala and Marcus headed north to Solamnia by way of the elven ship High Crest. Stranded in Caergoth, the pair acquired passage on the gnome ship Cloudmaster, bound for Solanthus.
The two parted ways shortly afterward, and Amala continued on to Garnet alone. She located the Greenblade, her family's ancestral sword, and discovered that a man named Merinsaard was behind the siege on Castle Greenblade. She tracked him down and challenging him to a duel, winning. After claiming her father's sword, armor, and signet ring, she proceeded to seek out knowledge of the old gods before returning to Solace.
