SOLACE
In the central heart of Abanasinia, bordered on one side by the lovely Crystalmir Lake, lies the hamlet of Solace. A crossroads between the Lordcity of Haven and the elven realm of Qualinesti, it receives a healthy number of travelers and visitors through it. Famous for the fact that most of its buildings are built up in the boughs of the mighty Vallenwood Trees, Solace has long been ruled by an elected mayor and town council. It is defended by a town watch who are led by a high sheriff.
Around 500 people live in Solace, not counting the farmers of the outlying fields. Solace is primarily a farming community. It has no local government but is ruled by the Theocracy of Seekers from their central city of Haven, some three days journey to the west.
People and Places of Note
Inn of the Last Home
The Inn of the Last Home is a tavern in Solace that is famous for its wonderful food and ale. It has seen several owners and a number of incarnations, but is still one of the coziest and most welcome inns for anyone wandering through Abanasinia.
The inn is currently run by Otik Sandath, a former adventurer who moved to Solace and bought the inn in 319 AC.
Fable Park
A small park where children often play during the day, and young lovers will sometimes meet at during the night.
Town Square
The Town Square in the town of Solace is set in the absolute centre, and is a large cleared area that lies at the intersection of numerous roads. Many merchants setup their market stalls here, and travelling players and musicians also often perform here. The square is a general meeting place for many residents and visitors of Solace.
Blacksmith's Shop
Theros Ironfeld, a large and muscular dark-skinned man, works the smithy here. He charges usual rates for work on iron items but, because steel is so valuable, charges extra for weapons. Because he works with precious steel, Theros is very respected in town.
The Trough
The Trough is a tavern of ill repute located in the southernmost reaches of the town of Solace, and is frequented by criminals and all manner of rogues. The tavern boasts a sign of a pig wallowing in swill, and is built on the ground. The building is set between two large vallenwoods and the serving staff of the Trough are well trained to turn a blind eye to any nefarious activity that goes on inside their walls.
The original tavern known as the Trough long since burnt down, and numerous versions of the inn also burnt down. Each time the inn was rebuilt by money supplied by hill dwarves, since it was one of the few establishments in Abanasinia where dwarven spirits were readily available.
The current innkeeper is Martyne Hacksilver (known for his tendency to shave coins). He allows anyone in his tavern, including goblinoids. He has a half-ogre bouncer named Branzill who is known for being rather mean-spirited. Fist-fights break out here often.
Stephen's Grocery
This is the general store of Gerann and Leatha Egil. Gerann (the son of Stephen, the store's former owner) is a retired soldier and walks with a limp and a cane. His wife is pleasant and motherly, encouaring all who visit the store and always giving a bargain once a sale is struck.
Millers
A creaking water-wheel beside a white-washed mill. Harak Frendren works there with his son, Emil. Rumor is they once insulted a traveling wizard and now have a serious rat problem.
Docks
A well-repaired boardwalk juts into still waters. Moored boats line the docks. They are kept in good repair. The docks are owned by Master Kaval Pukal (a renown philanthropist) and his ne'er-do-well son, Carlotti.
Seeker Manor
This is an immaculate manor house that hangs in the trees. Lanterns glow warmly in the boughs. This is where the Highseeker, Hederick the Theocrat dwells. He has recently hired goblinoids to help in 'policing' the town.
Barracks
This is a white-painted constabulary that stands beside the town jail. The Town Guard are in the employ of the Seekers. The current sheriff is a man named Retark.
City Hall
A stained sky-blue town hall, this is where the current mayor and chief magistrate of Solace dwells. Currently, the mayor is Master Merrick Tinworth. He is considered a practical and fair man, but easily intimidated by the Seekers. Often the town will hold meetings here and citizens can also research historical records, study maps of the countryside and town buildings, and seek legal advice or service.
Rockcrusher Home
This is the home of the master craftsman Gimak Rockcrusher. His odd assortment of companions, friends, and adopted children can also usually be found here. It is a simple lodging standing bedecked with wood carvings.
Wharfman Home
This quiet cottage is painted gray and white. Here dwells Barmus Wharfman, a fisherman, and his wife Cilla. They have two children, Barlemus and Shia.
Soulstaff Home
This yellow and white cottage rests high aloft. This is the home to the famed hero, Ravenweld Soulstaff and his half-elven son, Daos. The stories tell that supposedly Ravenweld once fought off an entire army of goblins and ogres single-handedly and saved all of Solace as a result.
Leather Shop
The owner of the shop, William Fallenmoon, is considered the best in Solace. He lives here with his wife, Krista, and his daughter, Kendra. They are normal. Very, very normal. Have I mentioned how normal they are?
