Raine watched as the wagon and Outriders trotted into the town. With a shrug, she looked back at the guard. "Hey, handsome," she said with a smile towards the guard. "What does one have to do to get inside to stock up on supplies, and to get some sleep for the night?"

"I assume this is your first time in Dekan?" the guard asked. "I need your name and your business here in Dekan. Then I can provide you papers that will allow you access into the town."

"Yeah, it's my first time here. It's that obvious huh?" Raine asked sweetly with a shrug. "So my name is Raine, and my business right now is to find a nice place to sleep for the night," she pointed out. "And then I plan on finding a job after that."

The guard pulled out a scroll and scribbled something on it. Then he handed it to her.
"These are your papers. Do not, under any circumstance, lose them. If you are asked by a guard to provide them and you cannot or refuse to, you will be imprisoned. There is a strict curfew," he continued without missing a beat. "If you are found wandering the streets after nightfall, you will be escorted to an inn or arrested if you have no papers."
He glanced down at the sword buckled to her belt. "Under no circumstance are you to have your blade or any other weapon unsheathed in the town's walls. Understand? All crimes are punished severely. If you understand, you may enter. Any questions?"

"Got it," Raine said with a nod as she took the papers. "Seems easy enough to follow." She was going to have to find a way to pull her scams in the daylight, but that wasn't going to be too terribly hard. She all ready had a couple of things to sell after all!

The soldier nodded and let her pass. Raine stepped up on the drawbridge and crossed the moat, into the walls of Dekan.
The town is, in a word, orderly. The streets are clean, the buildings are lined up perfectly into little rows, and bronze-armored hoplites patrol constantly.
Raine found herself at an intersection of sorts. Roads extended north and south, along the wall, and to the west. Immediately to her left she spotted what appeared to be an inn and tavern. A wooden sign hanging over the door read "The Tiger's Maw." A smaller building stood next to it, likely a stable for animals.

Raine looked around the town, having never seen anything quite so orderly before. She decided that it would be hard to get some business in this place, but it was something she was going to have to try to do. In the meantime though, she walked to the Inn. Getting a little rest after her long trek was most welcomed!

Raine stepped inside the Tiger's Maw Inn, a two-story establishment that doubled as both an inn and a tavern.
Immediately to her right was a fireplace surrounded by chairs. A fire burned brightly within it, warming the entire tavern. There were numerous tables in the common area. Two larger tables were on the south wall, and there was a bar with five stools, as well.
On the north wall were four smaller tables, one so small it only had two chairs, and a staircase leading up to the second floor. Behind the chairs that surrounded the fireplace was four individual tables and three tables that had been pushed together to make one large one.
On the west wall was a staircase descending into a basement and a couple of doors leading to other rooms.
The tavern wasn't very busy at this hour. Behind the bar was a woman in her thirties with with blonde hair pulled back into a bun and green eyes. She wore a simple grey apron over her clothes.
A man and a woman sat at the bar. The man wore the bronze armor of the guard, but his helm was sitting on the bar. The woman looked like a traveler, perhaps from another town.
The only other person in the tavern that Raine could see was a hobbit snoozing in one of the chairs by the fireplace. He was wrapped up in a blanket and an empty mug sat on the arm of his chair.

Raine took in her surroundings carefully before she walked over to the bar and took a seat upon the stool. "Good afternoon," she said cheerfully to the woman behind the bar. "What do you have to eat, and I would like to rent a room and perhaps a bath as well."

The woman smiled to Raine pleasantly. "Afternoon, and welcome to the Tiger's Maw Inn. I'm Isla," she said, placing a hand on her chest. "Got some trout cooking at the moment, and we also have some bread and cheese, if you care for it. How long would you like to rent a room for?" she asked.

"Trout is good enough I guess," Raine said with a small shrug. She was hungry, so right about now she would eat just about anything. "How much do your rooms cost? I'm not exactly sure how long I'm going to be in town."

"Trout's a bit, and the bath's three pennies," she said. "Want something to drink, too?"
She added, "As for the room, depends on what you want. Not a lot of visitors this time of year, so most of them are free. The common room is 5 pennies a night or 2 bits a week. You can have your own room, small but cozy, for 5 bits a night or 3 tokens a week. Or if you prefer something fancier, I have a suite available for 5 tokens a night or 6 scales a week."

"Yeah, a drink would be nice," Raine said with a nod. She considered the room prices. "Well, it would be great to have a fancy room all to myself, but I think I'll stick with the small but cozy room for a week." Maybe, if things went her way while she was in town, she would upgrade to the better room later, or so she was thinking.

The woman nodded and stepped back into the kitchen. She returned a moment later with a hot plate of fried trout and a glass of wine. "That's three tokens and seven pennies. Don't fret about the wine, that's on the house. I'll have one of my boys draw you up a bath, it should be ready by the time you finish eating. Anything else you need, dear?"

Raine took in the smell of the food, and smiled lightly. "Hmm, I'm good," she said. She wanted nothing more than to fill her belly, and perhaps find some entertaining conversation. With that in mind, she turned to the guard she ended up near. "Off duty?" she asked curiously.
