Concerning the reckoning of time
Note: These are just some ideas I had. Use what you like, and throw away the rest!
The departure of the Arbiter awakened in hobbits a desire for well-kept and ordered records of their everyday lives and histories. They had names for each day of the week and for the months of the year. The hobbit-calendar was adopted by the two races they discovered upon First Contact. The main point of difference was the reckoning of year One.
The written history of hobbitkind is the oldest of the three known races. They begin their reckoning after the departure of the Arbiter, though humans and raptors often refer to it as hobbit- or Delta-reckoning, often shortened to h.r. or d.r. To them, 500 d.r. is the year of First Contact, though of course proper hobbits do not like the name and discourage the use of the moniker, referring only to "the year 500".
Civilized humans have adopted and studied the histories of hobbitkind, but the three nations keep track of different years for the beginning of their histories. For example, Bronzemoon sets their year one at the founding of its nation, at the year 606. It is often abbreviated to BR. So the current year to them is 4 BR.
Celestos and Dekan have no independent reckoning, and use the nomenclature of Delta-reckoning. Hildebrand Montajay attempted to institute a more Plains-centric keeping of time, with the first year being set at First Contact, but it never caught on with historians. There is still some evidence of these attempts, with many records in Celestos making note of the years after First Contact, shortened often to a.f.c., or simeply f.c.
Tribal humans keep their own previous reckoning of time, of which hobbitkind knows little about. It was devised from observation of the moon, stars, and sun, though there are peculiar variations between tribes, too many beyond count to mention in this small treatise.
Raptors have also adopted the calendar of hobbitkind, but set their year one at the founding of their Empire, in the year 526. Along with this, the Emperor Semuanya has named his reign an era of "Peace Unending", a time of great revival and prosperity for raptor-kind. So, for example, the current year to them is the 84th year of Peace Unending.
