I think we've been through this before. Right click on your desktop, properties, settings tab, and it should say right there after Display:

It says....
S3 Graphics ProSavageDDR
Heh, heh...DDR.
Seriously, though. Is it bad?

The better graphics cards are about... 7.5 times better than yours.

So that's probably why I can only play The Sims 2 on Heather's computer.

Okay, the box on the Sims2 says you need ATI Radeon 7200 or greater/NVIDIA GeForce2 or greater.
I'm assuming that's better than mine.

Actually, yours is about as good as a GeForce2.

It is?
Oh...then I guess the video card isn't the problem...that's puzzling.

Wonder what your processor and RAM are.

I know I'm getting off-topic here, but now I'm curious as to why it won't run on Mel.
Requirements are... OS: Windows XP, Me, 2000 or 98 (XP/2000 requires admin account) CPU: 800 MHz or faster RAM: 256 MB or more Disc Drive: 8x or faster DVD drive Hard Drive: At least 3.5 GB of free space Video: DirectX 9.0 compatible Sound: DirectX 9.0 compatible
Video card must have 32 MB or more memory and one of these T&L capable chipsets:
ATI Radeon 7200 or greater; NVIDIA GeForce2 or greater.
Now the problem is, when I put the disc in, nothing happens. It's like Mel doesn't even realize there is a disk in the drive. I can't pull it up or anything. Any idea as to the problem?

Ah, you might not have DirectX 9.0, your graphics card my have enough memory but not be compatible, your DvD drive might not be fast enough which is the likely problem. I could fix it if I were there, sadly 500 miles separate us.

Aha...so three potential problems. Where can I find DirectX 9.0? And how can I find out if my card is compatible or if my DVD drive is fast enough?

In order 1) link2) Trial and error 5) Look at the DvD drive, it should say it right on the face. Also, the potential problems don't stop there. There are so many more things that could go wrong.

I tried to download the plug-in, and I got an error.
"Plug-in installer could not detect the appropriate browser installation directory. [Error: 0x80070002]

I don't understand what you mean by trial and error.
-----------------------
It doesn't say on the drive. All it says is:
DVD ROM

I'd have to be there to fix the first and third, and as for trial and error... Once you know you have everything else, and the Sims don't work, it's your video card.
I'm fairly certain your DvD drive isn't fast enough, it's the only explanation.

Well, if it's not fast enough, that might explain why my drive doesn't even seem to notice there's a disk in it.
How frustrating. I mean, it stands to reason when Spore comes out, it won't run on Mel either.
I guess I'd have to take it to a shop or something to speed it up?
